Apartment Life #352

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 26 years here in a weekly blog post.

Can you believe I've done 352 of these weekly posts now?

I circled the uncovered manhole on the left and the bag of dog food in the middle because I wanted to talk about the dog food for a moment. There are some people that drive by in their cars and bring supplies for the homeless that live down in the tunnels. This week I watched as a guy got out of his truck and set several bags of supplies by the open hole, shined his flashlight down the hole and a moment later two people popped up and took the bags down the hole. One of the things the guy brought was that large bag of dry dog food because at least 3 of the homeless people around here have dogs so that was nice. I saw several of the people who have dogs take a bowl, scoop out some food and give it to their dogs right around this area. I just thought that was nice of someone to do for them. One guy puts his small Chihuahua in a backpack on his back, leaves it open so the dog has his head out and he goes down in the tunnels with the dog on his back in a backpack. Another guy lives in his car with his dog and I mention this because of the next picture.

The guy that lives in his car with his dog had the police right behind his car this week. They must have run his plates and saw that it was fine because he didn't get a ticket or anything. But this is the third time I've seen the police checking out his car.

The confirmed structure fire on Bromley happened last Sunday night. I was already in bed when I heard a bunch of sirens and got up to see what was going on. A bunch of fire trucks drove down my street to get to this structure fire about a block away. An apartment building caught fire, don't know how bad it was but there sure were a lot of fire trucks.

I thought I would leave you with one last Falcor Christmas picture. This was taken Christmas day. My daughter had light necklaces for all of us to wear that day and she put one on Falcor with his little Elf hat.

The high this week was 59F/15C
The low this week was 36F/2C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. A relatively quiet week which is good. Falcor looks resigned to his Christmas gear, but not precisely thrilled.

  3. Falcor is so sweet.
I feel for poor folk who live in their cars and in sewers. Have the police nothing better to do than persecute impoverished citizens?

    1. At least the police didn't ticket him.

  4. I had no idea people even brought dogs into the holes with them. At least someone watches over them too...

Fires...fires everywhere. At least you weren't affected, but of course, you can't seem to get a good night's sleep...there's always some kind of commotion around.

LOL, I was thinking what Elephant's Child above said - Falcor doesn't look thrilled 😂. Then again, for some reason, he never does...maybe he's having inner fun 😂.

  5. Falcor looks festive!
Nice people bring food for the dogs although I wonder why they know to do that.

  6. Aww, Falcor was in the spirit! Is that a gnome doll for him?

  7. Donating dog food mean the dog's human eats better too because then they don't have to share their own food with the dog.

  8. Nice to hear of kindness in a bad situation. Cute falcor

  9. That is thoughtful to leave food for both the humans and their animals. It pisses me off when the cops hassle people who are so destitute as to be living in their cars. It could happen to any one of us, as the folks in the burn areas out here who lost their homes are learning. So, I'm glad the cops didn't hassle that guy. And, if I'm reading Falcor's expression correctly, he's not happy being decorated but is tolerating it because his humans seem to enjoy it, LOL.

  11. The greatest country in the world and people living underground or in cars with their dogs. What does that say about us? We all have to depend on the kindness of others from time to time. It isn't easy and, yes, it can happen to any of us. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. It really is. I like seeing people helping others. Falcor only wore it for the picture. He doesn't mind shirts but didn't like the hat.

  13. A more peaceful week. It makes me angry and sad that so many people don't have a warm, clean, dry place to live. Falcor puts up with a lot of costume changes. LOL

    1. Falcor puts up with a lot in general. But he gets lots of treats. lol I know. You would think that everyone would have a safe place to sleep but so many are without.

  14. It is sure nice that the underground pups get some food too. You look fabulous sweet Falcor!

  15. That is nice that someone left dogfood for the dogs that belong to homeless people. I feel bad for those animals. I have a hard time with homeless taking on any animal when they can't even take care of themselves properly. Maybe that's kind of callous of me, though.

    1. I feel the same way for the most part. I've called animal control on one of them months ago because she had a dog offleash and it was biting people. She couldn't take care of herself or that dog.

  18. That is so thoughtful to leave dog food. That's not something most people would think of. Makes me believe in kindness again! Falcor is a doll - I can't believe he sat still through tall that.

  20. At least the homeless have shelter, and the dog food, how wonderful for someone to leave it there so the dogs don't starve.

  23. I hope that fire in the apartment complex did minimal damage. That's so scary.

It's so nice of people to think of the animals too when helping the homeless. I see that around here as well, people supplying dog food and treats for them, from time to time. I keep thinking of all the animals taken to the animal shelter in LA County because of the fires there.

Love the photo of Falcor, all dressed up for Christmas. :-) Have a great week, Mary.
