Apartment Life #406

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 27 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 27 years here in a weekly blog post.

I told you that maintenance was installing lights around the buildings, on Tuesday they were working on the courtyard lights and they started pushing the gutters off the roof to get the lights up in places. I'm glad I wasn't walking by at the time when it fell because they weren't even looking to see if anyone was there as the gutters were falling in places. They did remove this later that day.

Since we have no more gutters, when it rains the water will be coming off the roof everywhere instead of just a couple of places and down the gutter pipes at the end of the building.

---

I spotted the police down the street early Tuesday morning. They got out of the cars and ran into that building and I could hear them pounding on the door yelling, "Police!" I waited around for a few minutes to see if someone would answer the door, but when no one did, they left.

It was windy one day this week and I spotted this note flying down the sidewalk, so I picked it up and read it. Funny thing is, the 209 building is in my apartment complex. There is no assigned parking so I have no idea what this person is talking about. Maybe that's why the recipient tossed it on the ground when they read it.
---
This is our pool. That building next to it at the top of the picture is the office. Ever since the new owner took over and hired this new management company, they haven't been maintaining the pool at all. Now they sent out a notice saying that there's too much wrong with the pool for it to pass inspections. *I call BS!* This pool has been here and open and passing inspections for at least 27 years. It passed inspections last Summer and was open, but now all the sudden it won't? Yeah, ok.

So we have been told it will no longer be here and will be destroyed but if we want to use a pool, we can walk down the street to the next apartment complex *That our owner now owns too* and we can use their pool. I think the manager just doesn't want to deal with the loud kids, people having pool parties and the homeless using it to bathe in every Summer.

We've been told that they are going to fill it and it's going to be turned into a dog run/potty place for dogs, sometime in the next 2 months. The manager said she doesn't want anyone letting their dogs potty elsewhere on the property. Well there are a lot of dogs down the street that walk here as well as the people across the street. So if she wants to stop them from walking their dogs down the street, she'll have to fence the entire property. No one is going to bring their dog into the office courtyard to use this small dog run. No thank you.

The high this week was 66F/18C
The low this week was 36F/2C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. It honestly sounds like the new owner is digging himself a hole so deep once he gets in it he's not going to be able to get out. People getting hurt when gutters fall, ruining buildings because there are no gutters, and now filling in the swimming pool with dirt and demanding the dogs all go right there.

    1. It's a mess right now. No gutters at all. They removed all of them.

  2. No gutters at all? Odd! The pool looks a mess and the new owner isn't doing himself any favours.

  3. Too much wrong with the pool.... We all know what's wrong.

Hi Mary. Don't let the incompetent get to you, okay? :)

  4. Funny about that parking spot.

  5. That is poopy about the pool or will be when the dogs get there. Hioefully, people stoop and scoop in your neighbourhood.

  6. That is so peculiar! What strange things landlords do. I have trying to help a client get her parking lot cleaned better. He claims poverty, but he just bought a new building. sigh.

    1. Can't be in poverty if he just bought a building.

  7. How idiotic to remove the gutters and then not bother to reinstate them. And yes, very suspicious that the management company want to get rid of the swimming pool. They just don't like the sort of people who use it.

  8. Uhh I hope they put the rain gutter back up. Here is it "law" that we all have rain gutters. As for the pool. I know the upkeep is expensive but putting in a dog area is too. As a retired Vet Tech I would NEVER take my dog to a dog park or area. There are too many diseases. Depending on what the new owner puts down on the ground is important too. Take Falco someplace else.

    1. Oh, I will absolutely not be using any kind of dog run/dog park place that they put in. I already walk my dog down the street away from this place and will continue to do that.

  14. No gutters doesn't make sense and filling in the pool so dogs can have a play area. Sounds dumb to me.

  15. Haha! I've missed coming to see what's going on around your place. Wow on the gutters! Glad you weren't under any of those being knocked off the roof! The pool thing is just plain weird. But the owners - even weirder. I will pray for you, Mary. Just wow.

  16. I'm sorry about the pool. In your area, you should totally have access to one. It seems that the new owners are even more incompetent than the old ones were.

  18. They didn't put the gutters back up? That's dumb. And they're taking away your pool? That sucks.

  19. Bummer about the pool. It sounds like they just don't want to pay for the upkeep. The gutter removal sounds dangerous! Glad nothing happened though.

  20. This new owner doesn't seem to have a lot of sense. Sorry you're having to deal with incompetence!

  21. That's a real bummer regarding the pool, if the owners own another in the next door apartment it can be understood I suppose but still somewhat of a nuisance for those that use the pool in your apartments.
So no spouting at all now - don't like that idea as water can get in between the walls.

  22. bummer about the pool. And what is up with no gutters? When we lived in Texas they didn't have gutters and what a mess it created when it rained.

  23. Oh I bet filling in that pool is not going to go over well. They probably also didn't want to deal with the homeless people bathing in it. You should ask for a reduction in rent since the pool was part of the original deal. I'm certain they will agree with you (said sarcastically).

    1. lmao Yeah, they would laugh me out of the office. They said we still have a pool we can use down the street at the other apartment complex so that wouldn't work,.

  24. Wait, you have a pool! They should have taken care if it

    1. Yeah we have a pool. The last owner and managers did take care of it. There was nothing wrong with it. It passed inspection last year and every year before that. This new manager just doesn't want to bother with it so they're destroying it.

  25. I can't believe they didn't install new gutters. And how careless they've been! Or maybe I can believe it. That's too bad about the pool. I bet you are right about the reason the new owner wants to turn it into a dog run. Maybe someone should plan a few days worth of dog parties there with dogs that bark a lot.

I hope you have a good weekend, Mary. Take care.
