Book Review: Guarded by the Grizzly Bear by Reece Barden

Book Description

Enemies-to-lovers meets fated mates in this scorching shifter romance. Book 3 in the best-selling bear protectors series is second chance romance features some unusual bear biology ;) a one-night stand that goes horribly wrong, forced proximity, one bed, human x supernatural, and a hero who falls first and falls hardest.

LISA

I had the best night of my life with a stranger.
That was, until I found out he was from the notorious Lennox family.
I told myself I made the right call, that I dodged a bullet, and that the feelings I got every time I saw Beau Lennox around town were irritation, not regret.

Now we're investigating the same case, a missing woman, and he's determined to keep me on the outside.

But I'm the one with the badge.
And no matter how hard he tries, no matter what happens between us, Beau won't be able to stop me bringing her home.

BEAU

She accused me of running a con and treated me like a criminal because of my last name.

I should be over it, over her.

But as soon as she's near, fighting me at every turn, I'm battling urges I don't understand and can barely control.

Now she's inserting herself into my investigation, demanding answers and taking risks.

Too stubborn to back down, she's getting too close to dangerous people who won't hesitate to hurt her and a secret she was never meant to find out.

She thinks I'm being territorial about the case, but that's not the thing I want to keep all to myself.

After one night trapped together on a case, my bear has decided she's his.

But once she discovers what I am, she might decide she was right all along and run.

MF, all the spice and HEA guaranteed.

My Review

Lisa and Beau hook up soon after meeting, they feel a pull towards each other and act on it. But things go south pretty quickly when Lisa finds out who Beau is. His family for the most part are on the wrong side of the law and she's been trying to bring down his father. Lisa is a cop and once she finds out who Beau is related to, she breaks things off pretty harshly.

But Beau isn't a bad guy, isn't in the business like his father is. When Beau and Lisa are thrown together again this time to find a missing kid, they have to work together, and Lisa ends up seeing that Beau isn't a bad guy.

Lisa is afraid that her coworkers won't take her seriously if she's dating the son of a man who's she's investigating. Not that her coworkers take her seriously now. She's more afraid that the people she works with will find yet another reason to roll their eyes at her and talk about her behind her back than she is that she might have just pushed a great guy out of her life.

It takes time for Lisa to see that she and Beau are great together, but Beau has a secret that he can't tell just anyone. He's a bear shifter. So there are things about him that he can't tell her until she makes up her mind to be with him, which causes a little conflict between then because she knows he's hiding a secret from her.

Lisa's coworkers are horrible and I was glad that she didn't let them rule her life in the end. Beau and Lisa are such a great couple and I am loving this series so far.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

  5. LOL, I was just thinking as I was reading your review that she really needed to stop worrying so much about her co-workers who obviously were never going to treat her with respect and then you mentioned her getting over that in the last sentence. :)

  14. I totally felt for Lisa while reading your review. It has to be incredibly tough working in a toxic environment where your coworkers are already rolling their eyes and waiting for you to fail. You can totally understand why she'd be terrified of the gossip mill if anyone found out she was hooking up with a Lennox, even if Beau is one of the good guys. I was so happy to read that she didn't let those horrible coworkers rule her life in the end. There is nothing more satisfying than a heroine who finally stands her ground and chooses her own happiness.

  15. I don't read romance novels, but I do want to try my luck with a werewolf horror story.

  16. This sounds like a fantastic addition to the series! There is nothing more satisfying in a romance book than when the heroine finally tells her toxic coworkers where to shove it and stops letting them dictate her happiness.

  17. Sorry I've been a lax blogger lately, but jury duty is finally over. This book sounds interesting. I really need to try one of this type of romance since my sister-in-law writes some. I could at least talk to her about her books. :) Have a lovely Saturday.
