Review: Krusteaz Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake Mix

I don't make a lot of cakes from scratch, not when I can buy a cake mix for $1 and only have to add egg, water or oil to it. Unless I already have all the ingredients at home, I usually use a cake mix. This mix was really easy to make.

It came with the cake mix and the cinnamon mixture. You mix together the cake mix with an egg and water and drop half into your cake pan. The add a little of the cinnamon mixture and top with the rest of the cake batter, then swirl it together and lastly the rest of the cinnamon mixture on top.

Bake for 45 minutes and out comes a cinnamon swirl cake. It was quite good too. When a box of cake mix only costs around a dollar, it's more economical for me to use that than to buy all the ingredients to make it from scratch. Especially when they taste just as good as the from scratch cake. It's damn near impossible to get it to look like the picture on the box but it was good.

Do you make cakes from scratch or use a boxed mix?

  1. I agree with you. I make some things from scratch, but there are many others that I don't see the point when the store-bought mix is as good plus less time consuming and economical.

Love cinnamon-flavored cakes and muffins. That looks yum!

    1. Exactly. There's just no need when the boxed mix is so good.

  2. I was so surprised to see all the box you have in the US and what you can do with them.

    1. You don't have a lot of boxed mixes where you live?

  3. I love boxed stuff too. It's so easy. I don't make a lot of cakes and things, because then I will eat all of it (I have no self control when it comes to sweets). I make a lot of pancakes with Mrs Butterworths complete (just add water). I really like them. I just add blueberries.

    1. I had a small piece. I'm bad. Hubby had some and so did my daughter. I love the pancake mixes.

  5. I sometimes 'doctor up' mixes, like making a Boston Cream Cake using a yellow box mix. I've made a few cakes from scratch, but they always seem heavy and not as good as the box ones!

  6. I tend to make from scratch (mom was a baker) but I do use the boxes sometimes. That one sounds real yummy :D

  7. I have a recipe that sounds similar to this box that I make sometimes. I like cinnamon cake and this one looks good.

I usually have all the ingredients for cookies and cakes at home so I usually just make it from scratch and I don't think you can get mixes as cheap as that here.

Those mix boxes can be really neat when you only have to add a few ingredients. I got a cookie mix from my mom recently where you only had to add egg and butter and it was really handy.

    1. Yeah the mixes can be handy when you don't have all the ingredients to make from scratch.
