Did You Know...

That Cashews grow on fruit that grow on tree's? See those half moon shaped things under the red and green fruit? Yeah, those are cashews. 

I did not know this until my brother's Guatemalan neighbor told him about them because they originated in Guatemala but are now grown in other places. The fruits are called Cashew Apples and the outer layer of the cashew is actually not edible and will cause a skin irritation much like poison ivy would. Roasting the cashews destroys the toxins on the outside and makes it easier to break open the outer layer to get to the cashew we know and love.
