Favorite Picture of the Week

Last month my daughter and I played a joke on Ken.

She brought me the googly eyes and I put them on stuff in the fridge. It took Ken a few seconds to realize what he was seeing. lol

Review: DegustaBox- January

DegustaBox is a monthly subscription box filled with food and drink products. The price for the box is $19.99 a month.

You do not get to pick any of the products you get, it's a surprise each month. But they say each box contains 10-15 items and each box is worth at least $30. I like trying boxes like this because they usually contain products that I've never tried or haven't seen before.

What was in the box?

This months box contained...

2 packs of Boom Chicka Pop popcorn
Monini Olive Oli
Maya Kaimal Naan Chips
Loacker white chocolate bar
Celio Whisps Cheddar crisps
Crown Maple maple sugar
Go Organically Fruit Snacks
Wasa Thins Rosemary crackers
Explore Cuisine Edamame spaghetti
Dole Fruit Bowls fruit in coconut water

The only thing I didn't like were the cheddar cheese crisps but Ken liked them so it's still a win. Everything else Ken and I tried together and we actually liked. My favorite thing is a toss up between the Naan crisps and the fruit bowls. The things that I liked a little were the maple sugar and the white chocolate candy bar. But I don't care for maple flavored things and I am not a huge fan of white chocolate. But it was still a really good box and I love that we get to try things that we normally wouldn't have bought, like the Naan chips. Those things were actually really good. I've never had Naan bread either but I would try it.

If you don't live in the US, they now have a Great Britain Website. Now here's a treat for you. If this box looks like something you'd like, you can use code MARYK-ACB and get your first box half off. That's a big box of food for only $10! and you can cancel anytime. So if you're interested, go to the DegustaBox site and sign up and don't forget to use my code to get your first box for just $10.

Have you tried any of these products?

Apartment Life #12

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.

This week I thought I would share this video that I took of my neighbors arguing. But then the cousins who live directly across from them come out and there's more people yelling. This happened last month.

I took this little video when my neighbors started arguing outside a couple of weeks ago. It's only audio because I'm not gonna go outside with these crazy people. But you can hear how loud they are 3 doors down. This actually lasted for well over 3 hours. They would quiet down for a while and then all of the sudden be at it again.

Well that's it for this weeks Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Favorite Video of the Week

I like this band but a lot of their music has the lead singer screaming and growling but not with this song. Maybe that's why it's one of my favorites from this band. The lead singer actually sings along with the drummer, who in my opinion has a better voice than the lead singer does but they both sound incredibly good in this song. Hope you enjoy.

Freebie Friday!

Welcome to another edition of Freebie Friday, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.

A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.

You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.

This week I received:

A box of samples from PinchMe that contained:
Professional Series Hair Mask
Kashi Granola Bar
Berry Blast RX Bar

I also received:

A Good Earth tea sample.
A $5 Amazon gift card from Crowdtap.
2 free bars of Dove Beauty Bar sent to me from Chatterbox by House Party.
And I got a book for review *not shown*.

Did you receive any freebies this week?

Recipe: Crab Salad Topped Avocado

I got the inspiration for this recipe from a video I saw on FB a while back but I couldn't find the video when I went to make this recipe so I changed it and added my own ingredients.

You'll need:

2 avocados, cut in half
1 can crab meat
1 tsp. mayo
1 tsp. hot sauce
2 pieces of bacon, diced
3" piece of cucumber, diced
1/2 of a roma tomato, diced
1 tsp. cilantro, diced
1 green onion, diced

What To Do:

Fry bacon until crispy and dice small. Mix all ingredients except for the avocados into a bowl, mix well. Refrigerate until ready to top the avocados. When ready to serve, cut the avocados in half and remove the pit. Top with a spoonfull of mixture and serve.

We had it with imitation crab salad and sliced chicken breasts. It made for a really good low carb dinner.

There was some dry ice in one of the boxes we received and Ken was playing around with it. Falcor just wanted to bark at it.

Walmart Beauty Box- Autumn

I've been getting these Walmart Beauty Boxes for quite a while because they are only $5 shipped. But they are supposed to come every 3 months. This box came on December 28th, 2017. It was supposed to ship out in September of 2017 but for whatever reason it didn't. I was charged for this box in November of 2017 and an entire month went by before I reached out to customer service to find out why it hadn't shipped yet. They sent back a vague reply but told me that the next box would ship out in January of 2018. *We'll see if that happens* So I took to Twitter and made a post about not getting the box even though I had been charged for it. Less than 2 days went by before I was sent an email with tracking info letting me know my box had shipped. Coincidence? I doubt it.

The Walmart Beauty box is a subscription box that comes out 4 times a year. You sign up for it and it comes automatically every 3 months *or they're supposed to*. These boxes are just $5 each and shipping is free.

I usually love these boxes because for $5, there's usually a lot of products in the box. This box however is my least favorite. It seems like they really didn't take the time to figure out what to put in this box and the samples of products that we usually get just aren't as good as what I've received in the past. They have you fill out a survey on their site so they can tailor the samples to you. I have long hair and would never use that hair glue. This was a fail for me.

So what did I get?

Sample of Got2b glued styling glue.
Sample of Dove body wash.
Sample of Jergens wet skin moisturizer.
Found charcoal sheet mask.
Sample foil packet of Olay Luminous tone perfecting cream.
CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir foundation- sample card.

I think if they are going to continue with this box they really need to get their shit together. It shouldn't take over a month after paying for something for it to ship. If they don't have enough people working in this department then they should hire more or just cancel this subscription box all together.

Apartment Life #11

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.

I have a couple of things for you this week.

I waited a while to post this because I have to wonder just how legal what they did was. They handed out these notices on a Friday and didn't come to check out the fire alarms until the next Tuesday. So it was much more than the 48 hours they said they would be. I wonder if they can just come anytime after the 48 hours or if it legally had to be that day the 48 hours was up on. Anyway, I just thought all of the added nonsense after the "I'll be checking your smoke alarm in 48 hours" was really not needed and a bit over dramatic really.  So I'm posting it now. If you can't read what it says, I'll write it out below.

This is a 48 hour notice to let you know I will be entering the apartment to inspect the fire detector. If you have a pet, your pet must be put in the room or cage. If I'm not able to access the apartment due to any reason a charge of $50.00 will be charge to your rent. If locks are change I must have a key to the apartment. If I don't have a key I will charge $45.00 to change the locks and will give you your new set of keys. I must have access to the unit at all times.

Right of entry owner may enter the premises during reasonable hours with or without notice in order ti inspect, make repairs, provide general or preventative maintenance, replace filters and leave any notices o other reasonable business purposes while resident is present in the premises. If resident is not present at the premises, then owner will have the same right to make such entries by duplicate or master key but will leave written notice of and the reason of any such entry made. If, in the owners opinion, there exists an emergency or a violation of this agreement, owner may enter without notice at any time for any inspection, repair, or to determine the condition or occupancy of the premises. It is the intent of the parties hereto that this provision grant to owner immediate access if resident is in default of any term of this agreement and that this provision be interpreted with the existing law to grant as broad and timely access as possible and permissible.

Thank you,

Management

The second thing I wanted to show you is this.

The police were on my street again. People were fighting and the police showed up and arrested one woman.

Her three friends were not happy about it and were all yelling at the police as they arrested her.

The police kept yelling at them to get back and be quiet. All the while the woman who was being arrested was fighting and struggling with the police as they handcuffed her.

Well that's it for this weeks Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

I cashed out my e-Rewards points for another $25 Macy's Gift card and bought this makeup kit with it. They had free shipping with all of their beauty and makeup products so I had just enough to get this and have it be completely free.

I also received 2 perfume samples and a Hello toothpaste sample.

I also received a free bottle of Herbal Essences Shampoo and Conditioner from Influenster.

Trying New Things

Last month our daughter gave us a basket of snacks for Christmas. These two things were the only things that we had never tried before so I figured that if we hadn't tried them, maybe a bunch of you haven't tried them either.

Our daughter knows that we love those tin cans with the smoked oysters, sardines, kipper snacks and clams. So she got the Giant Calamari thinking we might like that as well. She got the Jack Link's Jerky Chew because both of us like jerky but thought this was a fun package and fun way to eat it.

When I opened the can of Giant calamari, this is what it looked like. For those of you that don't know, Calamari is Squid. Part of the ingredients listed were: Cephalopod Tentacles, vegetable oil.

I have to say, they weren't bad at all. Quite chewy though but I would eat this again.

The other thing is the Jack Link's Original Jerky Chew. This stuff looked a little like chew when you first opened it. It's beef jerky shredded down to a fine almost saw dust type feel. But it tastes exactly like the Original Jack Link's Beef Jerky. I really don't know if people use this as a substitute to tobacco chew or not but I bet this tastes better. lol

Have you eaten anything new recently?

Favorite Picture of the Week

So this Christmas I had two pictures that really cracked me up. I'm just snapping pictures and then notice what Falcor is doing in the background.

Falcor was trying to get those orange fuzzy slippers on top of the pile.

I didn't even notice him in this one right away. But there's Falcor down by my daughter's feet.

He was really interested in what she was putting in the box.

He just wanted to check out what Logan got for Christmas.

And steal a can can of Ken's sardines. lol

We bought him two new toys so he's happy.

Review: Logan's Acadian Wolves (Immortals of New Orleans Book 4) by Kym Grosso

Book Description

An erotic paranormal romance...

Deep in the heart of New Orleans, Acadian Wolves’ Alpha, Logan Reynaud, rescues a beautiful woman in the dead of night. Intrigued by the mysterious human, the commanding Alpha is determined to elicit all of her secrets, including her deepest fantasies. After tragedy strikes, Logan discovers dangerous adversaries are planning an attack in his city. Driven by responsibility and honor, Logan must protect both his pack and the woman who’s captivated his attention.

Dr. Wynter Ryan, a leading virologist, is fascinated with her charismatic protector. As the chemistry ignites between her and the dominant Alpha, she relinquishes her ties to the past, embracing ecstasy and submission within his arms and intrepidly acquiescing to her own adventurous instincts. Succumbing to desire, she learns to trust her Alpha, discovering what it means to be wolf.

Passion and mystery on the bayou stirs Logan’s wolf, demanding he claim his mate. Yet Wynter’s a distraction he can’t afford when his priority is to lead his new pack. Will Logan surrender to the uncontrollable need to claim Wynter as his mate? And will he be able to keep her alive, finding the killer who threatens the Acadian Wolves?

Warning: This book contains several erotic love scenes, including m/f/m menage, and is intended for adult readers only.

My Review

I have to say that this series really has me enthralled. There are vampires, werewolves, witches and humans within the pages of these books, making the characters just jump off the pages. I'm having a good time with this series so far.

Logan has been a favorite character of mine since meeting him. He was Tristan's Beta wolf until a tragedy forced him to take on alpha status of his own pack. Logan is a different kind of wolf, he has visions and most of the time they come to pass. He's been having visions of a woman but he has no idea who she is until he meets Dr. Wynter Ryan, she's the woman who's been in his visions.

There's at least one person after Wynter but she doesn't really understand why or why the wolves think she's like the, a wolf. She's human or at least she was but how did she become a wolf shifter and who did this to her and why?

Leopold is a character that has shown up briefly during this series but he makes a bigger appearance in this book and after seeing more of him and what he does in this book, I'm really looking forward to getting to know him better.

The fighting, the action, the betrayal and the secrets all make this book so interesting and hard to put down.

As with all the books in this series there is a continuation of the story, not a cliffhanger as all of the story line questions in this book are resolved and nothing from this story is left open but you do get to see who will be the main character of the next book.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
