Review: Fighting Destiny by Amelia Hutchins

Book Description

Have you ever heard of the old Celtic legends of the Fae - beautiful, magical, deadly and a love of messing with humans just for kicks and giggles?

Welcome to my world.

What started out as a strange assignment, leads to one of the most gruesome murder mysteries of our times and my friends and I are set and determined to find out who is killing off Fae and Witches alike.

Couple of problems in the way – I hate the Fae and the Prince of the Dark Fae is bound and determined that I work for him. He’s a rude, overbearing egotistical ass with a compulsive need to possess, dominate and control me. Oh – did I mention that he is absolutely sex-on-a-stick gorgeous and he makes me feel things that I never ever wanted to feel for a Fae…every time he touches me or looks at me with those golden eyes seems to pull me further in under his spell, despite my better judgment.

My friends and I can’t trust anyone and nothing is as it seems on the surface – not even me.

My Review

Synthia worked as an enforcer for an organization of witches that kept otherworld creatures on the right track and out of the newspapers. More than 30 years ago the otherworlders made themselves know to humans and the Fae came out to let humans know that they were superior to them. Now the governments were run with the help of the otherworlders. So the enforcers enforced the laws and kept the humans safe from the otherworlders.

It was surprising to me that the Fae were awful creatures. They could feed from human emotions and even take a part of the soul as they fed. The Fae were also known for torturing anyone that crossed them and having no mercy while doing it. They were not the nice guys in this story. So when Syn was sent to their headquarters to steal something and she was caught, I had a bad feeling that she was going to be tortured and it wasn't gonna be pretty. The Dark Prince might be drop dead sexy but he was also a Fae. Then the first twist hits this story and things change rapidly. The twist I never saw coming and damn but I loved it. It really set up the rest of this story.

Ryder is the Dark prince and he's an ass. He does a lot of things that just piss me off. He makes Synthia do things that she doesn't want to do and he can make her do them just by thinking it. Like I said, I didn't like him at all. But Ryder and Synthia work together to try and find a serial killer. One twist after another is thrown at us as we're reading and a lot of times I can see a twist coming but I didn't see any of these coming. They just came out of nowhere and changed the course of the story which was interesting. Then right when I think I know where this story is heading, they throw in another twist. This story had me all over the place. I was mad at him, felt sorry for her and then was fanning myself because these two together are hot as hell. I was loving this book and then it ended on a huge cliffhanger.

A cliffhanger. I couldn't believe I put in so much time in this book and was loving it for it all to come crashing down from a cliffhanger. Unbelievable. That cliffhanger completely ruined this book for me.

I give this story 2 out of 5 stars.
