Review: Bring The Heat by G.A. Aiken

Book Description

HE SAYS . . .

I, Aidan the Divine, am, well divine. My name was given to me by the Dragon Queen herself! I’m a delight! Cheerful. Charming. And a mighty warrior who is extremely handsome with a very large and well-hidden hoard of gold. I am also royal born, despite the fact that most in my family are horrendous beings that don’t deserve to live. And yet, Branwen the Awful—a low-born, no less—either tells me to shut up or, worse, ignores me completely.

SHE SAYS . . .

I’ll admit, I ignore Aidan the Divine because it annoys him. A lot. But, we have so much to do right now, I can’t worry about why he keeps staring at me, or why he always sits so close, or why he keeps looking at me like he’s thinking about kissing me. We have our nations to save and no time for such bloody foolishness . . . no matter how good Aidan looks or how long his spiked tail is. Because if we’re going to win this war before it destroys everything we love, we’ll have to face our enemies together, side by side and without distractions. But if we make it out alive, who knows what the future will hold . . .

My Review

It's been a while since I've read a book in this series but I usually like the books so I went ahead and picked up another one. The one thing I know for sure is that these books usually make me laugh at times and this one was no different. There's always great banter between the characters, Aidan and Branwen are fun together. The banter between these two had me laughing at times and she is really funny because she knows how to really get under his skin.

Branwen and Aidan get sent on a mission together but neither are happy about it. Both are dragon shifters that have human looking forms as well.

While I liked the battle scenes and seeing past characters, I would have liked to have seen a lot more of the main characters and their romance. Yes, they get together and have some sexy times but it didn't feel like a romance to me. It felt more like a book about the war and battles with some sex thrown in for good measure.

The battle scenes are graphic and brutal but added to this story. A lot of past characters showed up in this book so if you haven't read the series up to this book which is book 9 then you might feel a little lost if you started with this one. There was a lot going on in this book and even though it wraps up nicely, it didn't feel complete if that makes sense.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
