Apartment Life #333

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 25 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.

Last Saturday night around 9:30pm we heard about 5 gunshots. But they weren't really close so I didn't call the police. They sounded like they were at least half a block away. I searched the news but didn't see anything about a shooting around here.

My daughter took this picture a while back and sent it to me this week. One of the druggies was slumped over passed out in his chair he had sitting in front of my building.

When I see this kind of thing, I usually check to see if they're still alive. I'm glad I do because I found out from my daughter that a few neighbors told her two different people died of drug overdoses on my street last week. I didn't see the police or coroner here so I had no idea. One guy died in the grass across the street and another guy died in the alley of my apartment complex. Both from drug overdoses. It's sad that happens.

I saw the police and the homeless shelter van on my street again asking the homeless people if they wanted to go to the shelter. Most don't go because they can't do drugs or drink alcohol in the shelters. No one got in the van this time.

Wednesday night at 11:30PM I heard the police siren for just a second and looked out my bedroom window. At first there were only 2 police cars. Then it quickly became 4 police cars.

Within 10 minutes there were 6 police cars all lined up on my street, right in front of my building. One woman was in handcuffs while they searched her truck. She was later arrested and her truck was towed.

The high this week was 97F/36C
The low this week was 67F/19C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. You are much calmer than I would be. We almost never hear gunshots and rarely see the police or ambulances here.

    1. Maybe because it happens so often around here.

  2. Hi, Mary!

This was definitely a more active week for police activity in your neighborhood, dear friend. It's a sad commentary that the drug addicted homeless turn down a ride to the shelter because it means they would need to clean up and wouldn't be able to stay zonked 24-7. It is also very sad that lives come to a wretched end right there in your neighborhood, and it's par for the course. That woman must have done something bad to draw six units to the scene.

I wish you a safe and happy week, dear friend Mary!

  3. That's a lot of cops.
Sad about the overdoses. The more fentanyl that pours across the border, the more it's going to happen.

  4. I would be a bit afraid to check if someone is dead. And it’s shocking that guy didn’t fall out of his chair, passed out like that!

    1. Most of them just wake up and say they are fine.

  5. We had a guy slumped over in his wheelchair with a jacket over his head this week(in our building). I saw his hand move and left him alone. Its hard to hear about overdoses and I hope Nevada has treatment centers.

    1. There are treatment centers but unless you have insurance there aren't a lot of options.

  7. Yes, I agree. It is very sad. But, if they don't want help, you can't force it on them.

  8. That sure was a pretty wild week especially with that police car finale!

  9. That is very sad. The homeless rather do drugs and drink instead of helping themselves. That doesn't lead to a long life span.

  10. Yikes. It is so sad to see and hear that so many are addicted and/or homeless.

  11. Yeah that would be scary seeing someone slumped over in a chair like that. I'd worry too. Sad too nobody wants to go to the shelter, though I get it- if they're addicted why would they go from their point of view if they can't get drugs?

Looks like a busy week there this week. A sad kinda busy.

  12. Do you still have that guy living in the bush next to your building?

    1. They trimmed all the bushes so until they grow back a little no one has been sleeping there.

  17. So sad about the overdoses. And sad that the homeless won't take shelter when offered because they won't follow the rules. Such a complicated issue. There are no easy solutions.

  18. Six police cars? That seems a bit over the top.

  19. Sounds like last week was a bit more hectic than usual. Sorry to hear about the deaths, it is weird that you didn't see an ambulance or anything. I hope this week is quieter for you.

  20. 2 overdoses in one week in your neighborhood? That's so sad. The drug use in this country is out of control. I wish there was an easy fix for it :(

  21. It's too bad they can't offer rehab shelters. I know not all of them would go, but I think some would. 😐

I get so frustrated here. We hear gunshots quite a bit, but unless someone is killed there is never anythung on the bews
