This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.
I saw this on the sidewalk and thought I had found $40. lol But as soon as I picked it up, I could tell it was counterfeit money. If the feel of it didn't give it away...
The while paper looking middle sure did. It was too think, felt like paper and had a while middle. I will say whoever made this made it look real if you didn't pick it up and feel it. Damn. lol I thought it was my lucky day.
I heard sirens and at first didn't know where they were. But saw people looking into the Cal Ranch parking lot so I walked that way and sure enough there were a few police cars over there. This parking lot is right next door to me.
More police. I think Cal Ranch might have been robbed. But I couldn't find anything on the news about it. So who knows.

A neighbor 2 doors from me was locked out of his apartment Thursday night when he got home. I found out that maintenance had come to unclog his sink because he put in a work order. But they said they didn't have a key to his apartment so instead of waiting or making another appointment, they drilled out the lock, changed the lock and when they were done, they locked the door.
Because he wasn't home, they couldn't give him the new key. But they didn't leave a note on his door to let him know. He called the maintenance emergency number at 6pm. He was outside so I heard the conversation when he was on the phone. They apparently told him he would have to wait until the next day to get the new key and that's when he started yelling telling them that they were going to get him in his apartment that night that he wouldn't be sleeping in his car.
Because he wasn't home, they couldn't give him the new key. But they didn't leave a note on his door to let him know. He called the maintenance emergency number at 6pm. He was outside so I heard the conversation when he was on the phone. They apparently told him he would have to wait until the next day to get the new key and that's when he started yelling telling them that they were going to get him in his apartment that night that he wouldn't be sleeping in his car.
He kept calling them back every 15 minutes for 2 hours and they stopped answering his calls. So he started calling every number he could find on Google for this management company and he must have gotten a hold of someone because that person called our manager who called maintenance and they came out 30 minutes later. It took 3 hours for this guy to get back in his apartment. At one point I asked him if he wanted to sit in my apartment but he declined. I also told him he should just break a window and get in that way but he didn't do that. He was big mad though.
The high this week was 80F/26C
The low this week was 49F/9C

Isn't that funny how sometimes shit happens and it's not on the news?? And oh my gosh about the lock. Crazy!

So much stuff happens just in this neighborhood that if it's that busy all over Vegas the news would have to run 24/7 in order to report it all. lol
DeleteI think he was well within his rights to demand that they let him in.
ReplyDeleteI was in our local shopping centre the other day when it was evacuated. Police and fire trucks in attendance. Nothing about it on the news and it is now open again.
Isn't that crazy? I think too much stuff happens all over for the news to report on all of it.

ReplyDeleteIt's great to be back exploring your neighborhood with you. Seems there's a surprise around every corner. Gosh, I'm sorry that Jackson you found turned out to be funny money. For a moment I thought you were on Easy Street. I got all excited the time I picked up a $50 bill, but turned out it had a picture of Pee-wee Herman.
Things seem pretty much the same on your block. There can be significant police, fire and/or rescue activity, but no mention of it in the news the following day, and you never find out what happened. Another thing that hasn't changed in the five months I've been gone is that residents still need to coax, plead and threaten apartment management to get them to do the right thing. It was nice of you to offer to let your neighbor hang out in your unit until he could regain access to his.

Yeah things are pretty much the same but drug dealer moved out so there's that at least.
DeleteThat is so stupid. You can't just lock someone out of their apartment overnight. My next step would've been to call the police.

DeleteHow bizarre that they decided to spend the time and money on a new lock instead of just waiting. What is wrong with people?
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine said her son got a $50 tip on his job parking cars and it turned out to be counterfeit. Screwing over a kid! SMH

Deleteyes, counterfeit money is often given to UBER drivers as tips. but the way I figure it-don't even be generous if you're committing a crime while doing it:)

DeleteGood on your neighbor for his persistence and going over their heads. He was big mad at being locked out, but showed them a thing or two or three by going to the head of the snake who made them do their job. Wish our Corporate cared as much.

DeleteHow incredibly dumb to change the lock but not leave a note for the tenant to say so. Do they expect him to be a mind reader?

DeleteI would have been so mad if I'd been your neighbor and maintenance had changed my lock without telling me...and then wouldn't come back out to give me a key! How infuriating.

DeleteGuess management doesn't have common sense. Not even a note, I can't blame him for being very upset. Bummer on the fake money, it would have been nice if it was real.

DeleteUnbelievable! Is this America? Even in a third world country they won't do a thing like that, changing the lock without letting the tenant know about that.

DeleteHey, don't be picking up money, it's dangerous. The trend is to sprinkle fentanyl on it just to cause harm to whoever touches it. That's awful about how that guy got locked out, that was super rude.

ReplyDeleteI feel like there's news of a robbery in town just about every day these days. So many desperate people making bad decisions.
I can't believe they put your neighbor through all that. That was terrible! I am glad he finally got in, but he shouldn't have had to wait so long--or be locked out at all like that.
I thought of you when we drove through Las Vegas on our way to and from Utah this past weekend.

DeleteChurches used to do that folded up money thing. You'd think you found $20 on the ground and open it up and the other half was a bible sermon or something. Not a good way to advertise religion by ticking people off LOL

DeleteWow! I wonder if that is even legal for them to go in without the renter present and change his lock, locking him out. Poor guy.
ReplyDeleteAbout a month ago, I went to get gas and noticed a couple police cars at the gas station. Then they blocked off the building entrance and one of the driveways. At this point, I was the only "civilian" pumping gas. SWAT was there. I started freaking out. No one came over to me and told me to leave, so I finished as quickly as possible and after I left, the police blocked off my entrance. I found out later that a man came in and used a flare gun on a clerk, and he was "at large" for two days. Wild!
Wow, that's nuts.
