Apartment Life #342

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Halloween when my daughter and grandson's father was taking my grandson to a Halloween party, they spotted an accident only a couple of streets away from where I live. The lady had been in the street selling flowers when a car accidentally hit her, she died. They covered her with a sheet.

The bucket of flowers that she had been selling was still sitting on the median after the police blocked the street off. That's really sad to have happened.

There was a news report that I found on this.

---
This is the laundry room for my complex. There are 88 apartments in my complex. There used to be 4 washers and 4 dryers in this laundry room. The floor also used to be covered in laminate tile. But they pulled that up and it's just the cement block there now. This week management or maintenance decided to get rid of all but one washer and one dryer.

They used to take quarters and now you have to download an app and pay for it through the app.

One washer and dryer for 88 apartments seems a bit crazy.  But I don't think they care. The laundry room is a mess too, they don't clean it. Some of the residents sweep it every once in a while but not recently. I don't use this laundry room. There's a self serve laundry mat across the parking lot in the shopping center next door or I just hand wash my stuff. There's too much drug smoking and other weird things that go on in the laundry room for me to be going in there.

The high this week was 80F/26C
The low this week was 47F/8C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. Only one set of machines for 88 apartments is absurd. Needing an app is worse (what if you don't have a smartphone?). If I were in your position I'd use the laundromat too, especially since it's close. Eventually your laundry room will get taken over by the druggies and they'll break the machines so residents don't come in there and bother them.

That's sad about the flower-seller. It's not clear who was to blame, but the way people these days are always fiddling with their phones while driving, such incidents aren't surprising.

    1. The laundry room was taken over by the druggies which is why they changed the door lock and the people who live here had to ask for a key. But now there's not enough washers and dryers for everyone here.

  2. ONE washing machine and dryer? That is cheap skatery at its worst.
I am sorry about the flower seller.

    1. Yes, and I don't see them getting more. Hopefully this set of washer and dryer doesn't stop working anytime soon.

  3. I’m glad you have another option to do your laundry!

Very sad about the flower woman.

  5. Poor flower woman. What a way to go. I wouldn't use that laundry room either. Good thing you've got oa nearby commercial laundromat.

  6. Glad you can go across the street if you have to.

  7. Still in a Halloween frame of mind, my first reaction to the covered body on the road was that it's a body in a bag trick. The article doesn't give much detail as to how the driver failed to see and not hit her, how fast he/she was going that the hit ended in death, but at least the driver stayed on scene and must feel awful and YIKES! That laundry room.

  8. What a sad incident.

The laundry room is a disgrace, but then again, I'm not surprised, given the management's complete disinterest in...pretty much everything going on around there.

  9. How sad that this woman was hit by a car, and her body was left covered up in a sheet.

I can only hope that the apartment management is planning to add more new washers and dryers soon.

  13. That is terrible, we had a terrible accident too in Novi Sad two days ago when a roof fell at a train station, more than 15 dead, all young, even two little girls, and it is all because our dictator gives construction jobs to Chinese companies with his mobsters as overseers.

  14. Glad you have a laundry option. Sorry to hear about the flower seller.

  15. That's so terrible about the flower seller :(
The heck with the one laundry set for all those apartments!? Glad you have a close laundromat to use nearby!

    1. Yes it is.
Most people have started using the other laundromat.

  16. That is insane. I'd ask if they were redoing the laundry room, but it appears not. If only there was something you could do to report the management, but I doubt there's any redress for this.

    1. It's a management company that the owner hired to take care of this place. They don't care and neither does the new owner.

  17. That is so sad about the lady selling flowers getting hit.

One washer for 88 people? That is crazy. Like you, I would do my laundry elsewhere.

  18. Oh how sad. That breaks my heart.

I'm glad you have an alternate place to do your laundry; that one doesn't seem safe or sanitary.

I hope you have a quiet week.

  20. That is terrible about the woman selling flowers and I can't imagine only one washer/dryer for 88 apartments (the last apartment I lived in had 2 sets of washers/dryers in the basement for the 8 above apartments (and each set of 8 acts had 2 washers/dryers)

  21. One washer and one dryer for 88 apartments is absurd. More cost-cutting mania, I guess. Very sad about the flower lady. Was she actually in the road when the car hit her?

    1. It is. I'm not sure where she was when she got hit.
