Product Review: Book Light by Common Sense Goods

Product Description

Your search for the perfect book light is over! Purchase today, and here's what you can look forward to..

-We keep hearing.. "it's is the best reading light I've ever owned". Lightweight and durable seems that folks just can't help giving 5 star reviews for our book lights!

-It's the perfect light for reading in bed and not waking your partner. The LED light entirely illuminates both pages without disturbing your husband or wife.

-Why weight down your book with bulky AA batteries? Our ultra light Lithium batteries make this task light virtually weightless, allowing you to read longer into the night without tired arms.

The biggest question you may be asking is-How can this reading light so much better than other, more expensive book lights? It's because we took the time to research and design the ideal light. We asked our testers what was most important to them, and the resounding answer was "light and affordable."

So we stripped off all the unnecessary extras, like the 'never used' 2nd light and heavy 'book sagging' AA batteries. Plus, we also designed the clip so that it fits neatly between the pages AND added our non-slip strips to ensure that it won't wiggle or fall off! Resulting in..the best book light available today!

Perhaps it's this attention to detail that separates us from all other competitors! Most importantly though, is the customer service you'll get when you place your order today. We pride ourselves in offering world class customer service for our premium goods. So buy one today, risk free, and if you're not thrilled with your purchase, we'll replace it or return your money, no questions asked, promise.

My Review

There have been times when I've been in dimly lit rooms and wanted to read one of my books but couldn't because the room only had one small dim light in it. This would have been perfect for those times. It came with the battery already installed so all I had to do was turn it on and use it.

I tried it out on a book and it clips very easily to a paper back or a hard cover book and it stays where you put it.

There were a couple of things I found that could be fixed. First the switch easily turns on so if you have this in your pocket or purse and its in the pouch and the switch gets bumped, it might turn on which will run the battery down. There's only one led light so while it does light up the page, one spot is more lit than the rest of the page.

The other thing is that the little black pouch it came in is just a little too small. It's hard to get this book light in and out of the pouch and I had to be very careful to make sure the switch didn't accidentally get switched on while putting it in the pouch. The pouch needs to be a little bigger to make it easier to get this book light in and out of it.

Disclaimer: I was given this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review.

I give this book light 3 out of 5 stars.

Product Review: Gibson 2 Wire Display Stand

Product Description

The 2A is a two-wire display stand. Manufactured with two vinyl coated, steel wires machine riveted together for firm tension. The 2A is 4 inches in height, 3 3/4 inches wide, and has a 1 1/2 inch bend. The 2A is adjustable, lightweight, and compact for easy storage and mobility. This product aids in promoting point of purchase sales and increases visibility of any item. The 2A display stand is ideal for use in small place and to display books, CD's, DVD's, plates, art, and much more!

My Review

I don't know about you but I have small pictures, decorative plates and decorated ceramic tiles that don't have hangers on the back of them so it's hard to get them to stand upright. I have one display stand but it's in use so I'm always looking for others and this one is great. It worked to hold my decorative plates, my decorated ceramic tiles and the picture frames with no hangers on the back of them. This works great for displaying things that need to be held upright on a table or shelf.

Review: Vampire Vacation by C.J. Ellisson

Book Blurb

Meet Vivian. She's a 580-year-old vampire who exudes sex, has a talent for drama, and is passionate about two things: her human husband, Rafe, and their resort for the undead. Her ability to project physical illusions has created the perfect vacation spot—a dark, isolated Alaskan hideaway where visitors can have their wildest fantasies come true.

Vivian knows the best performance requires perfect timing, but the powerful vamp is put to the test when she discovers a corpse in a locked guestroom minutes before the next arrivals. Always cool-headed, Rafe hides the body, convinced he and Vivian can find the culprit without disturbing their guests.

Juggling the increasingly outrageous demands of their customers while tracking a killer isn't easy. Will their poking and prodding give them the answers they need, or will it uncover secrets Vivian would kill to protect?

Warning: This book contains adult content (bloody violence, graphic language, and explicit sex) and is not intended for readers under 18.

My Review

Vivian is more than 500 years old and oh yeah, a vampire. She is married to a human and runs the a large hotel for vampires in Alaska called the V V Inn. Vivian used to be an enforcer and she's killed a lot of vampires that needed to be killed. That said, she's trying to keep just how powerful she is a secret from the other vampires because she doesn't want them to know her true identity or that she used to be an enforcer.

Vivian uses her powers on guests at the V V Inn to make sure they have a good time and their fantasies come true. What she isn't expecting is to find a dead body but she does and she has to figure out who or what killed the person. But when it looks like an old foe is the one who is stalking her to get revenge and she can't wait to find suitable back up to help her kill him, she comes up with a plan that makes the guests at the Inn all too happy.

The descriptions of the Inn, and the outside really give us a good idea what this place looks like and we find out why she decided to build it in Alaska so far away from anything else. I loved how we get to see that in this series some of the vampires seem to have special gifts like being able to change into mist, shift into an animal or use glamour to make themselves look better than they actually do. And these are real vampires, they drink human blood and even keep humans around for that purpose but the humans want to be there and they are well taken care of.

If you're really into vampires and paranormal romance with a bit of a mystery, you'll love this book.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

If you'd like to buy this book for yourself, you can find it here. When I bought it, it was free for Kindle.

Review: Bad Wolf by Jennifer Ashley

Book Blurb

Wolf Shifter Broderick is stuck looking after his three younger brothers and a Collar-less Shifter who is driving him crazy, but he’s putting up with it for Joanne, the human woman he, for some reason, wants to impress. Joanne Greene, while grateful to Broderick for rescuing her sister, doesn’t know what to make of him. She’s been a loner most of her life, better able to relate to computers and coding than to people, until she’s drawn into the world of the Shifters.

Broderick is everything Joanne is not—a fighter and a tracker, from a rough-and-tumble family, better at working with his hands than understanding the netherworld of Joanne’s computer programmer life. Broderick is also extremely protective, wanting to draw her under his care as he does everyone else.

When Broderick is captured, mistaken for a Guardian, it’s Joanne who figures out that hackers are after the Guardian Network, the database that holds the deep secrets of Shifters past and present. Strangely, Broderick now holds the key to stopping the deadly danger of the network's breach, and Joanne with her coding skills is the only one who can help him.

My Review

I've been reading this series for a long time and I love these books and this one is no exception. When reading a series you really get to know the secondary characters and I've been wondering about Broderick since his character popped up. While Joanne and Broderick are attracted to each other they haven't acted on it. Tiger tells him that Joanne is his mate but he still doesn't believe it. I just have to say that I love Tiger. His character ever since he was found has evolved a lot and I was really happy to read more about him in this book.

There's a mystery story line going on in this book and Broderick gets trapped in another world but finds out some things while there that I'm sure will show up in subsequent books.

A guardian has been killed so a new guardian has to be picked. When Broderick holds a piece of the guardian sword and doesn't want to let it go, I figured that he would be the next guardian but he made it pretty clear that he doesn't want that and who is the next guardian is left wide open at the end of the book and I really think when something as big as that is brought up in a book, there should be a conclusion to it by the end of the book.

This book was great and I always like it when two characters that are struggling to see what is right in front of them, finally see the light and get together.

I am hoping that some where down the line that the shifters aren't so discriminated against and segregated into shifter towns. My hope is that the hefty restrictions the humans have put on them including having to wear the collars and restrictions of tech will be lifted at some point and they won't be seen as animals that need to be caged for everyone's protection.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

If you'd like to buy this book for yourself, you can do so here. At the time I bought it, the book was just .99 at the time.

Review: Target Beauty Box

Target has a beauty box that you can sign up for each month but supplies are limited and they run out really fast. The boxes are just $5 each and they have at least $20 worth of products in them. Last month they had another box for just $7 and I was able to get this one and was really happy since they are usually out by the time I hear about them.

It comes in a really nice box which I kept because I'm sure I can find something to store in this box. But I was really happy with all the different products that came in this box this month. For just $7, you really can't beat this offer. Have you signed up and received one of these Target Beauty boxes yet?

In this box I got:
Sample of Crest 3D White Teeth Whitening Strips
Olay Active Botanicals Facial Moisturizer
Olay Active Botanicals Moisturizer
Fekkai Hair Shine Spray
Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara
Clairol Hair Food-Moisturizing Hair Mask

I love that Clairol Hair Food. It's the first time I've used this and with the full size bottle being a $12 value, it was totally worth spending $7 for this box just for that and the mascara because we all know that make up is crazy expensive these days.

Another thing that I am loving is the Olay Active Botanicals Toner and Moisturizer. This stuff smells amazing and it really works. I've been using both for two weeks and I love how the moisturizer makes me face so soft and not dried out at all. Plus it smells so good!

This box was totally worth the $7 price tag.

Review: Machines of the Little People by Tegon Maus

Book Blurb

Ben Harris’s sister died of cervical cancer more than three years ago… his best friend and her husband, Roger Keswick, disappeared the day before the funeral. For the next six months everyone from the local police to the Department of Defense searched for him but to no avail… it was as if he had simply fallen off the face of the planet only to reappear at work as if nothing were out of the ordinary.

Then by the purest of coincidences Ben finds himself pulled back into Roger’s life only to discover he has remarried… to Jessica… a woman the looks, sounds and acts just like his dead sister. To complicate things Roger is insistent his home, his car, his life is infested with tiny elf like creatures he calls the Katoy. He claims they run massive machines under his house and watch his every move… every move that is until Jessica is found bludgeoned to death in his living room and Roger is nowhere to found . . . again.

My Review

The story starts off right away with Ben needing his truck fixed. But for some reason no one wants him in their place of business, something about machines that stop working when he's around. Turns out Ben has a condition called B.C. E D. Bio-Chemical Electrical Discharge. His body emits a form of electrical energy that messes with electrical devices. Right off there are a lot of characters being introduced and since we don't know who they are or how they fit in the story, it was a bit confusing.

Ben is a handy man and while he's fixing a drain in a house, he spots his ex brother in law, Roger in the house next door. He invites Ben over and even though he doesn't want to go, he does. Roger is now remarried to a woman who looks a lot like his dead sister, which throws him off a little. But what really makes Ben feel strange is how Roger is acting. He's not himself at all. And then Rogers new wife is dead and there are official's all over the property looking for Roger but he's no where to be found.

But things aren't always as they seem and things revolving around Roger's life, are really not what they seem. Are the Katoy real or has Roger gone off the deep end?

If you like government secrets, a thought provoking story and a great Sci-Fi mystery, then this might be the book for you.

This is a novella and it's Sci-Fi and most times I can take or leave Sci-Fi. It's just not my go to genre right now, but this book was quite good and worth the read if you do like Sci-Fi. If you'd like to buy this book, you can do so here

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Mamava Pod For Nursing Mother's

*Photo courtesy of Seventh Generation/Generation Good. *

A Mamava Nursing Pod was recently installed in NY Airport. You can read more about that here. Seventh Generation would like to see more of these nursing pods all over the US and if you are a member of Generation Good/Seventh Generation you can vote to see what location gets the next Pod.

If you are a member of Seventh Generation/Generation Good, you can vote here for what location you'd like to see get donated a Mamava Pod for nursing mother's.

I actually think this is a great idea. Too many times I see on the news where a nursing mother was asked to leave, cover up, or go to the restroom to breastfeed her baby. While it's illegal to ask a nursing mother to leave because there are laws that protect nursing mother's from being discriminated against.

But this is a great idea for mother's who would like a little privacy when breast feeding in a public space.

Disclaimer: I'm a member of Seventh Generation and could win a 10 pack of diapers if I win the contest.

Tombox Monthly Subscription Box Review

I found out about this monthly subscription box when a FB friend posted a picture of what she received in her Tombox last month. So I looked the site up and decided to give it a try. Now it says that the boxes start at $10 a month but I went through the questions process and was told my box would be $16 a month. Not sure how someone gets the box for $10 a month. But you can personalize the box and get even more stuff than this. I could have gotten double the make up for an additional $6 or a pack of disposable razors for an additional $12. I chose not to take advantage of either of those things.

I really think this is a great box for women because you get your choice of pads or tampons, jewelry and name brand make up. I know whatever I can't use or don't want, my daughter will gladly take. But this would also make a great present for someone.

This month I received:
Always Pads
Make Up Brush
Eyeliner
2 lip balms
A Pair of Hoop Earrings

And after you sign up you get a referral link and when 3 people sign up for this monthly subscription box using your referral link, they send you a free box!

If you'd like to try this monthly subscription box out for yourself, you can find the site here

Product Review: Balisong Folding Knife and Keychain Knife

Silver Steel Balisong Knife Folding Knife

My Review
The blade length for this knife is 3.74" so it's not to big and not too small. It's a good looking knife and feels sturdy and looks well made. It's easy to close and easy to hold and is small enough to fit in a pocket, purse or glove compartment. I've never tried to flip around one of these butterfly knives and think that you'd have to try and practice many times before being able to do it fast and not cut yourself or drop it on the floor. But this would make a great gift for someone who does know how to flip it around.

Keychain Knife

My Review

This knife would make a great gift for someone who wants a smaller knife or something to wear on their keychain. It's closes easily and locks in place until you unlock it to use it. I plan on giving this to my son in law who likes carrying a small knife with him when he's coming home from work in the wee hours of the morning. He likes small knives that he can fit in his pocket and this will work well for that purpose. He also likes having something like this handy for opening packages and envelopes and since it fits in his pocket, he can always find it.

Disclaimer: I was given this product for free in exchange for an honest review.

For whatever reason neither of these knives are listed on Amazon any longer so I can't give you a buy link.

My Review

This white cat coffee mug is bigger than I thought it would be and so cute. This mug holds a lot of coffee or hot chocolate and I like that. It's one of the biggest mugs I own because I also own the black cat coffee mug. It's not small like those little coffee mugs you are served in cafe's and restaurants. I think this would make a great gift for anyone who is a cat lover, anyone who likes decorative mugs or anyone who likes to collect mugs that are unique.

Product Review: Face Mug by OliaDesign

Product Description

Put a smile on that mug with a hungry mouth cubby that bites off more than you can chew. Perfect for serving milk and cookies, coffee and doughnuts, tea and biscotti, or your favorite snack-time combinations. Oven, microwave and dishwasher safe.
Made from Porcelain
Measurements 3.7" H x 2.9" dia., Weight 11.9 oz.

My Review

This is so unique because it not only holds liquid but it will hold a couple of small cookies as well. This is dishwasher safe and made of porcelain. It is on the smaller side and will only hold 2-3 small cookies or crackers. It does seem to be made well but I've always been told that porcelain cracks easily so I would be careful about clinking this against other cups or dropping it accidentally. I think this would make a great conversation piece to have sitting on the kitchen counter when guests come over.

Water temperature should be over 70°C/158°F5,the color changed. Be careful with hot water! 5. Don`t scald yourself

My Review

This mug set is unique because it changes color when either hot or cold liquid is poured into it. There are two mugs so this really makes a great gift for someone who likes unique quirky mugs. I plan on giving this to a family member as a Christmas present because they have a large coffee mug collection and I think they would really enjoy these mugs. They are nice size mugs and stand up to washing without chipping or fading of the outside of the mugs. These need to be hand washed or the outside finish might start to chip off but I didn't have a problem with that even after using and washing them several times.

Product Description

Fully adjustable
Made from vinyl coated wire that will not scratch furniture or displayed items
Vinyl Coated Steel Wire
Made in USA

My Review

This is great for holding my Kindle and it would be good for holding a ipad as well. It would also be good for displaying this like plates, tiles and picture frames. I have 3 different tables where I have knick knacks and now I can use these display stands for things like plates and pictures that can't stand on their own. I know several of my family members could use these for their Kindles too. So this would make a nice gift if you know someone who can use a product like this.

Product Review: Faucet Mount Hose Holder by WalterDrake

Product Description

1 piece metal garden hose holder. Fits over faucet to hold water hoses.

My Review

I bought this for my dad who has a house and a nice back and front yard. He has a hose and it's a long one. But after tripping over something in his yard last year and breaking his hip and then tripping over the hose because he left it out in the yard, I decided that something like this might be beneficial for him to have to put the hose on so he's not falling and tripping over it. He liked it and now uses it to store his hose when he's not using it. My dad is 83 years old and this was so easy for him to use. Just place it over the water spout and hang the hose on it. There's no drilling or complicated installation.

An Interesting Discovery- Pfc Jack Kirkland POW

I found this folded up among the old pictures I have and at the top it says...

Thirty one Southern Californians, including seven Los Angeles men, were listed by the Navy Department as being prisoners of war either in the Philippine Islands of in Japan. The Los Angeles men are:

Pfc. Jack Kirkland, U.S.M.C; brother of, J.S. Kirkland, 10500 National Boulevard.

That was my Great Uncle Jack. He was my grandpa's brother and I had no idea about any of this until a couple of days ago.

I was looking through one of my old family photo albums because the album itself is falling apart and I need to transfer the pictures to a new album. Well this newspaper article was folded up behind a picture of my grandfather and when I read it I had to call my dad to ask if he had an Uncle Jack because I'd never heard of him before and he told me that he did and he was a prisoner of war during WWII and he lived through that but was later killed during the war.

I've had this photo album since I was 12 years old and I never knew that newspaper clipping was there tucked behind a picture. I was scanning in a few pictures of my grandpa to share on FB because I recently found three cousins on my dad's side. Even some of them had no idea that our grandpa had a brother who had been a POW. How crazy is that? You just never know what you'll find tucked away in an old photo album.
