Review: Roland Mediterranean Flavored Quinoa

We'd had two different flavored Quinoa dishes before trying this one and it was a tie because one was really good and one was really bad. So Ken found this one in the store and bought it for us to try. I have to say that when I tore this envelope open and smelled it, I wasn't pleased. It smelled like dirt and something gross. But I cooked it and tasted it...and wouldn't you know it was so darn good. I couldn't even believe it. With the smell from those spices coming off it, I really thought it was gonna taste bad but it was so good and this little envelope made a lot.

My brother had just come for a visit after vacationing in Alaska and he brought us one of the Yellowfin Tuna's that he caught and shipped back to his home in one of those frozen styrofoam cartons. He also brought us some homemade smoked salmon that he caught and smoked in Alaska. So I baked the tuna and cooked the Quinoa for Ken and I and we had it for lunch.

Some of the skin came off during cooking but who cares, I toss that anyway. lol But it was really good. I've had canned tunafish and I've had smoked tuna but I've never had or made baked tuna and it was quite good.

So if you're looking to try a good tasting quinoa, I'd give this one a try. The spices aren't over powering taste wise and it was extremely easy to make. Just heat the water, add the quinoa, cover and cook for 15 minutes.

Have you tried Quinoa?

  3. I have tried quinoa but it's so annoying to cook. Wash it first and then they are s tiny so they slip away. And I did not cook a lot, but still there were some left cos we did not realise who full you got from it

    1. Thankfully this we didn't have to wash first and already had the spices added to it. I think if I had to wash it first like I do rice it would be a pain.

  12. I do not make or eat much Quinoa, I like it, but I never make it which means I never eat it. I had some smoked Salmon from Alaska a few years ago and it was delicious. I actually love salmon skin, especially if its crispy. Have a great day Mary :)

  14. I've never tried quinoa. I'm not sure what I would think of it. I'm very picky. I've been halibut fishing in Alaska. I would still like to take DH up for salmon fishing (even if I don't like salmon).

  15. Someties the packages of spice are overwhelming all together and in the dehydrated state. I personally don't like pre-packaged "Mediterranean"spiced things bc they have garlic powder which bothers me. Glad this tasted better and you are trying new things. Fresh tuna so expensive - lucky you to have some from your bro!

  17. I love Quinoa. I tend to just get the plain unprepared/seasoned and season it on my own or add it to other ingredients. So yummy! Glad you found some you like!

  19. Funny how a pre-cook smell or appearance can be so different from the result. I do want to eat more Quinoa so I'll watch for this brand and flavor at the store. I've never tried fresh tuna, but it does look good.

  20. I am glad to hear this dish turned out well even with the smell from the package being so bad, lol. I have a fried rice dish that I make regularly that I tried with quinoa once and it turned out pretty good.
