Victoza Review- Living With Type 2 Diabetes

About 6 months ago I was told I had type 2 diabetes and my doc started me on Metformin to bring my blood glucose numbers down but it didn't work my A1C actually went up from 8.1 to 10.1 so he decided to try something else and gave me this. It's called Victoza and it's an injectable pen prefilled with the medicine.

All I have to do is turn the dial on the end there to the number that my doctor wants me to have and then give myself a shot. If you've never used an injectable pen they are really easy to use. You have to load the pen when you first use it but you only have to do that once for each new pen. You dial in the mark they tell you too and press the plunger and then it's ready to be used. You just take the cap off the pen, take the paper off the pen needle and place the plastic end over the pen so that your needle is now attached to the pen.

Then you screw on the plastic needle cap to the pen and pull off the plastic safety cap.

After you pull off the plastic safety cap there's a small plastic tube that you have to pull off after you have dialed in the amount of medicine that you are supposed to inject.

After pulling that plastic tube off you just put the needle into your upper leg, stomach or arm and press the plunger and hold it for 7 seconds and then pull the needle out. As you can see, the needle is tiny. I could barely get a good picture of it. I don't even feel the needle going in.

I've now been on this medicine for about a month and I take my blood sugar levels 3 times a day and they have steadily been coming down which is awesome. When I first started this medicine my fasting blood sugar numbers were around 250 and now they are around 130 which is so much better. One of the other advantages of this medicine is that it's a powerful appetite suppressant and I noticed about a week after I started taking this that my appetite and the amount of food that I could eat at meals was diminishing.

I'm going to be frank and also tell you that there are some cons to this medicine also. One of the biggest and I've read in the forums of people talking about taking this medicine that constipation is a problem. But if you change your diet to include foods high in fiber this will help relieve the problem.

All in all, I am happy with the results I am seeing from this medicine and happy that my blood sugar numbers are steadily going down.

Review: Target Beauty Box

Target has a beauty box that you can sign up for each month but supplies are limited and they run out really fast. The boxes are just $5 each and they have at least $20 worth of products in them. I've been trying for 3 months to be able to get one of these boxes but they are usually out by the time I hear about them. But not this month (July).

It comes in a really nice box which I kept because I'm sure I can find something to store in this box. But I was really happy with all the different products that came in this box this month. For just $5, you really can't beat this offer. Have you signed up and received one of these Target Beauty boxes yet?

In my box I received:

Fashion Tape
Cucumber cleansing cloths
Herbal Essence's Dry Oil Spray for shiny hair
Pumice stone
Goody Ouchless hair ties
Max Volume Mascara
Cover Girl Lip Gloss

I was also able to get the second beauty box Target offered at the same time. Supplies are limited and they go fast so I was happy to get both of them and at just $5 a piece, that's a pretty good deal. Here's what was in this box...

1. Bathery Delicate Bath Pouf
2. John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7-Day Treatment
3. Olay White Strawberry Body Wash
4. NYX Butter Gloss Strawberry Parfait
5. Goody Ouchless Hair Elastics
6. CoverGirl Outlast All-Day Primer
7. Burt’s Bees White Tea Facial Wipes

And yes, my dog Falcor was keeping an eagle eye on that bath pouf. I think he thought it was a dog toy. lol

We bake fresh every day in our spotless kitchen and ship scrumptious cakes, cookies and brownies all over the world.

My Review
I love brownies or pretty much anything chocolate so I was excited to get to try these at a deep discount. The first thing I noticed was the really nice tin they came in. This would definitely make for a great gift. It was packaged nice and securely and the tin is really nice and reusable as well.

I opened the tin and the smell of 2lbs of chocolate brownies hit my nose. Is there anything nicer than freshly backed chocolate whatever? I think not. I will say that these brownies have a unique chewy/gooeyness to them. But they taste like decadent rich chocolate brownies and for anyone who can't eats nuts, these are nut free and kosher.

I shared them with my husband, daughter and grandson and they all liked them. They are really rich so a little goes a long way. I can only eat a small piece at a time before it gets to be too much for me and my family felt the same way. But when you want a little chocolate pick me up, these sure do the trick in a hurry.

It's a fact that I share my treats with the rats and they really loved these chocolate brownies as well.
Flower very happily licked all over my hands after she got a bite of chocolate brownie. That's one happy rat right there. Scribbles got a bite too but he ran into his cube and hid under the blanket with his piece so no pictures of him. lol

Disclaimer: I received a coupon code to get these brownies at a deep discount in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Eltronica Super Bright LED Collapsible Camping Light

Product Description
BEAUTIFUL DESIGN LANTERN WITH SUPER BRIGHT 120 LUMEN OUTPUT

Lanterns don't need to look dull and boring. This beautiful lantern has a unique design that will be the envy of all your friends.

The majority of telescopic lanterns on the market use conventional LED technology and produce around 60 Lumen of light. The Camo Lantern uses modern SMD LED technology to produce a stronger and more efficient 120 Lumen. That is twice the output of similar lanterns.

The telescopic switch on/off design allows the lantern to be extremely portable. Just extend it to turn on and retract to turn off. Made from a super tough water resistant ABS plastic the Slick lantern will work equally well both outdoors and indoors.

A compass is build right into the top of the lantern. It's great to have a backup compass should you ever need it. Perfect for camping, fishing hiking and outdoors.

My Review

I love this pop up lantern. I was surprised just how bright this was. It's 120 lumens and it really does light up a good amount of area. I'm keeping this for emergencies like power outages so I don't have to light candles in my apartment which could be a fire hazard. It pops up and turns on and when you push it down it turns off. It packs away nicely and seems very sturdy. This would make a great gift.

In the heat of the summer the power often goes out for a few minutes up to 2 hours. It happened 4 times last summer and this summer it's already happened twice for just a few minutes but we keep this pop up lantern within easy access so when the power goes out at night we can find this easily. It's so bright that it lights up the entire living room and I don't have to light a bunch of candles. Oh and hubby loves this. He's asking me to try and get more stuff like this to test out and write reviews for. lol

If you'd like to buy one of these lanterns for yourself, you can find it here

• Oven safe to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, with spiral bottom for even cooking.

• Safe for all cooking methods.

• The 2-Piece Frying Pan Cookware Set includes one 9.5" Inch and one 11" Inch Frying Pan.

• Dishwasher Safe.

My Review
I love non stick cookware and am always looking to buy new pans because non stick pans seem to be easily scratched which wears out the non stick functionality of the pans. These work really well and I love that I don't have to use butter or oil to prevent sticking. Butter is only used as a flavor additive now. I love that the pans match and work so great. My food cooks evenly and no added oils. These seem very durable and don't scratch easily which I really like.

This 2 piece pan set comes in either red or gray and I chose the gray set. It says it's safe for use with metal utensils but it's only scratch resistant so it's still possible to scratch the surface of the pans so I use silicone utensils when cooking to make the non stick surface last longer. I also like that I can put these into the oven up to 350 degree's and don't have to worry about the handle melting.

If you'd like to buy a set of these pans, you can find them here

Review: Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost

Book Blurb
Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges . . .

Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough, her lover Vlad has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever--especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her . . .

Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity . . .

Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust-- the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity . . .

My Review
Leila is a human with a special power and she's in love with a vampire named Vlad, yes that Vlad. He shows her in his own way that he cares for her but she wants him to love her and say the words but he can't. There are two vampires that care for Leila but her heart belongs to Vlad, but when an explosion happens, she's not sure who she can trust.

I started out not liking Vlad at all but I could understand why he was emotionally cutting himself off from the woman who loved him with all her heart. Even vampires can be hurt by love and he's determined not to let that happen again. So he and Leila part ways but he comes back as fast as he can when he finds out she's in danger...I guess he really does love her.

Vlad may be an alpha uber vamp with serious control issues but underneath it all Leila might actually be able to find the caring vampire that she's longing for.

I loved that in the beginning of the book where there was a vampire named Hannibal. How fitting is that? Crazy, blood sucking man named Hannibal. I'm just surprised that someone hadn't thought of that before now.

The bad guy turns out to be someone who's into witchcraft and just when we think they'll be caught, they use a spell to make the rats who are around where they are attack the good guys. Now you know this was one of my favorite parts. It's like they took a page right out of Willard *one of my favorite movies* and took control of the rats.

Oh and there were ghouls and ghouls eat vampires as well as people!

I loved this book. All the action, the mystery, the romance and getting to know Vlad, who is a blood thirsty psycho but at the same time can love the woman who loves him for who he is. I loved everything about this book...until I got to the end and there was a cliffhanger. What? Why would you do that to me? C'mon! If you're going to go through the entire book trying to figure out who is trying to kill you and you finally find out who it is...you end the book finding him and making him pay for his transgressions. What you don't do is leave the end of the story on a cliffhanger where you have to read the next book to find out what happens next. And because of that ending I'm giving this book 4 out of 5 stars instead of the 5 stars I intended to give it while I was reading it.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Fun Pictures

It's been a while since I shared pictures of the pets so I thought I would do that today. Poor Falcor still wants to play with Scribbles and whines every time I bring him out to play. Falcor has to go into his doggie pen when the rats are out playing because I don't want the rats to bite his nose and I have a feeling they would.

Falcor likes his new bigger bed. He's been sleeping on his back with his legs in the air, it's pretty funny.

I put this little rattie sofa in Scribbles cage yesterday and he jumped right in and went to sleep.

Flower sitting still eating a piece of a cookie. The only time she sits still long enough for me to get a picture of her is when I give her a treat.

Alkalized for quick and easy dissolving in cold and hot water
Rich in antioxidants, dietary fiber, iron, manganese, magnesium, zinc, and essential vitamins and minerals
Morning Pep DARK COCOA POWDER is Packaged in a convenient resealable stand up pouches to preserve freshness and purity

My Review
I'm always up for trying something new so when I saw this Morningpep Cocoa Powder, I figured why not? I love all things chocolate but I found out a few months go that I am diabetic so I have to be a little careful now.

I decided to make a diabetic friendly hot cocoa for my first recipe using this cocoa powder. I heated up some water, added a teaspoon of the cocoa power and a packet of Splenda and stirred. I love this cocoa powder because it dissolves really fast and easily into the liquid. I tried it again the next day same recipe only this time I used milk and it was so good. I plan on using this cocoa powder to make myself some chocolate cookies while also using a sugar substitute like Splenda so they are a little more diabetic friendly.

Review: One Gold Heart by Sadie Haller

Book Description
Mac Wallis agrees to join the wind quintet, Dominant Cord, for the Christmas concert season as a favour to an old friend. It's her first step towards recovery after a vicious attack more than a decade before. However, sparks fly when Dominant Cord's unofficial leader, flutist, Finn Taylor takes issue with Mac's reliance on medication in order to perform.

Mac can't understand why the asshole who so completely humiliated her at their first rehearsal keeps showing up in her late-night fantasies as the Dom of her dreams. It's not even like he's the good kind of bad boy.

After his marriage ended in disaster, Finn tries to steer clear of damaged women, but as a Dom, he feels compelled to put aside his own hang-up to help Mac reclaim her independence and her former life.

All titles in the Dominant Cord series can be read as standalone, but are best read in order.

My Review
This book was mentioned in a book club I belong to and it sounded really good so I bought to to read later. I was getting ready to go to bed and thought I would just read the first few pages to see how I felt about it...an hour later and I had stayed up until 1am to finish the entire book! Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. It turned out to be the best book I've read all week.

Mac agrees to step in for an old friend and play in a wind quintet after her friend breaks a couple of ribs and can't play. Mac has high performance anxiety and takes Beta Blockers in order to perform in public. That wouldn't be much of a problem if Finn didn't blow up at the mention of anyone taking medication. He seems to view all medication as drugs and if you take them, that makes you a drug addict.

Finn starts out really unlikable and I didn't think he could turn it around but he did and after finding out why he feels the way he does, it makes much more sense.

Mac is a little hellion, she was quick with a come back when she first met Finn and he was being Mr. Grumpy Pants. And even though she has some serious hang ups, she trusts her best friend and Finn to help her get past them.

I really enjoyed this realistic look into a BDSM relationship that required a Dom to show compassion, patience and empathy with a sub that has serious emotional baggage.

While this book does have some graphic sex scenes and a recounting of the rape that happened to Mac, it's done in the right way and made for a emotional, sexy read.

If you'd like to read this book, you can buy it here

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

How To Cook Rice Without An Electric Rice Cooker

So my electric rice cooker broke and I had to find a way to still make rice until I bought a new one. So I asked a few of my friends and they came through for me. I can now make white rice in a pan on the stove and don't need to buy a new electric rice cooker.

Here's how...

First you'll want to measure out how much rice you want to make. For every cup of uncooked rice, you need 2 cups of liquid.

I made 1 cup of rice because that's enough for just Ken and I. Pour your 1 cup of rice into a mesh strainer and rinse it. This is a really important part. if you don't do this your rice will be a thick mess instead of fluffy rice you want.

Next add your liquid to the non stick pan. You want to make sure you use a non stick pan because rice can stick to the bottom like crazy. I opted for a can of chicken broth to give my rice a chicken flavor. You can use water, beef or vegetable broth. Jut depends on the flavor you are looking for.

Next, bring the liquid almost to a boil and add the rinsed rice. Turn down to med low which for me on my stove is between medium and low. Stir it once and add a lid. Let it cook for 15-20 minutes and then check on it. Stir it and see how much liquid is left. There should be very little liquid left so let the rice cook for another 5-10 minutes until there's no liquid, turn off heat and then sit for 3-5 minutes with the lid on, this will let the rice cook the rest of the way.

It took me a couple of times cooking it this way to judge how long it would take to cook but the rice comes out perfect every time now.

Review: Tombox Monthly Subscription Box

I found out about this monthly subscription box when a FB friend posted a picture of what she received in her Tombox this month. So I looked the site up and decided to give it a try. Now it says that the boxes start at $10 a month but I went through the questions process and was told my box would be $16  month. Not sure how someone gets the box for $10 a month. But you can personalize the box and get even more stuff than this. I could have gotten double the make up for an additional $6 or a pack of disposable razors for an additional $12. I chose not to take advantage of either of those things.

I really think this is a great box for women because you get your choice of pads or tampons, jewelry and name brand make up. I know whatever I can't use or don't want, my daughter will gladly take. But this would also make a great present for someone.

This month I got a box of tampons, nail polish, sample of perfume, a braided head band, Hikari blush and a blush brush.

And after you sign up you get a referral link and when 3 people sign up for this monthly subscription box using your referral link, they send you a free box!

If you'd like to try this monthly subscription box out for yourself, you can find the site here

So this week I got the box and here's what was in it.

I received 3 paper masks, 2 full size products and 21 mask samples.

Did you receive any freebies this week?

Review: As Twilight Falls by Amanda Ashley

Book Description
Photographing ghost towns across the American West, Kadie Andrews takes a wrong turn and ends up in Morgan Creek--a spot that isn't on the map. It's a quaint little place, but there's something off about its complacent residents. And when twilight falls, it takes on a truly sinister air. . .

Unable to run, or to find any way out, Kadie finds herself a prisoner, hunted for her blood. Still more disturbing, her spirit and beauty have captured the attention of master vampire Rylan Saintcrow. When he looks into her eyes, she can see his hunger. When he takes her in his arms, she can feel his power. When he presses his lips against hers, she can taste his need. Saintcrow may be the most compelling creature she's ever imagined, but Kadie knows in her heart that he is also a man. A man who needs a woman. To want him, desire him, crave him. To be his willing prisoner--for all eternity.. .

My Review
Oh dear, I do love a vampire romance book and I was already a huge fan of Amanda Ashley's books so when I saw this one I knew I had to read it and I'm so glad I did.

Kadie Andrews is a freelance writer and photographer who likes to visit and document ghost towns but when a wrong turn leads her into a small strange town where she finds herself stuck because there's no gas station or cell service, she finds herself in danger from Master Vampire, Rylan Saintcrow.

Rylan had been resting and healing underground for thirty years after being set on fire by hunters, but he awakens to the new scent of Kadie and he wants her too badly to stay underground any longer. He set up this town so that he and other vampires who wanted to be there could be safe from the vampire hunters, it was a safe haven for the vampires. But the humans that were there were virtually kidnapped and were never allowed to leave once they accidentally ventured into town. Serving only to be meals for the vampires who took up residence there.

I like book clubs so when Kadie is invited to a book club of sorts at the library and they start talking about Salem's Lot by Stephen King *one of my favorite books* I was giddy with excitement. Can you imagine sitting around a table in a new town and having the women tell you that, ' Oh by the way, this town is a lot like that book Salem's Lot because it's run by vampires!'. I'd either have a lot of questions or think every one of them was nuts. But it all starts to make sense to Kadie.

The vampires for the most part are nice, yes they take what they want and trap humans in this town to feed off them, but they are nice about it..for the most part. Of course there has to be that one or two that ruin it for everyone. The one thing I did feel bad about was the humans who got stuck in the town and had families that they never got to see again, especially people with little kids.

Rylan falls for Kadie, he falls hard. He's never met anyone like her and he does things for her that I never expected. There was passion and sex but it was more romantic sex than 'throw you down and make you scream-sex', which for this story really was a better fit. Rylan was surprisingly gentle, sweet and romantic for such an old vampire.

I loved the ending, I think it ended the way I would have thought a book like this would.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

If you'd like to buy this book, you can find it here
