A To Z Blogging Challenge: L is For Las Vegas

I've lived in Las Vegas for 25 years and people who don't live here usually think that the only thing to do here is to gamble or see the shows at the Hotels, but there's a lot more to Las Vegas than just the Casinos. In the picture above, that's me standing next to a donkey at Red Rock. Red Rock is just a little drive out of town and if you're going to head up there make sure to bring some bread with you for the donkeys. If you stop your car on the side of the road and you have food, they will come right over to you for the food and stay to let you pet them.

We also have a Zoo. It's not real big like the LA Zoo but as you can see here we have Ostrich's. This one scared my daughter when he stood up...lol

We also have several really nice parks. This one is Lorenzi park, which is one of my favorite's. If you bring bread, crackers or something to feed the ducks and geese, they will all come over to you to get some food. It's a lot of fun for the kids.

We also have museums. This one is at the Natural History Museum. My hubby and I took our daughter there and it was really amazing with all the dinosaur bones they have on display.

But if you really want to go on the Strip, do it at night so you can see all the lights. This is our Lady Liberty statue.

To me, it's so much more exciting on the strip at night. I think it's all the lights that you wouldn't see during the day.

The fountains at the Bellagio. They are much more magnificent at night.

This has been just a sample of the things you can do and see here in Las Vegas. It doesn't all have to be about the casinos and Hotels. Bring the kids, there are things here for kids as well as adults.

  1. As odd as it sounds, I've been to Las Vegas twice and have not gambled once. I've looked at places -- including the Natural History Museum. One of the great things was seeing palm trees. I'm from California originally, so the palm trees turned into an unexpected tourist attraction. The last time I went to Vegas, a horrendous dust storm kicked up one day, so bad that a lot of places were shutting down.

  5. Aw the Donkey is so cute! I've never been to Vegas as an adult. We drove through when I was a kid though. I'm not a big gambler but it sounds like I'd still have a great time. And I'd love to see that fountain in person!

  6. I've been to Las Vegas a couple of times, and really loved it. I would like to go and stay there longer though. I've never stayed overnight there.

Only saw the Bellagio stuff during the day.

  10. Hi Mary! I like how you introduced us to aspects of Las Vegas that we are seldom introduced to as outsiders. I found this to be an interesting read!!

  11. I love Las Vegas! It's driving distance for me. I'm in the high desert of So. Cali, so it's not even all that far. :)
