This post is all about quirky facts...

Did you know that a rats teeth never stop growing and they have to gnaw on things to keep them from over growing?

A cockroach can live for nine days without its head before it starves to death.

Seventy percent of the dust in your home consists of shed human skin.

Armadillos, opossums, and sloth's spend about 80% of their lives sleeping.

One reason some bugs have powdery wings is to avoid predation by sticky tongues.

Seaweed extract keeps the ice cream crystal-free -- i.e., creamy.

The main ingredient in Worcestershire sauce is Anchovies.

A lot of mass produced foods get their pink, red and purple colors from crushed bugs that feed on red cactus berries.

  1. I knew the first two facts. Rabbits and chipmunks etc. also have the same problem with their teeth.

    Also knew the third one, but did not knew that it was as high as 70%.

  2. I did! I knew a handful of those and a few I really wished I'd never known. LOL The ice cream addition is why I can't eat most ice creams. Some type of allergy that makes breathing questionable. Sucks! I'm usually good to go with homemade though :)

  4. I knew quite a few of them...I didn't know about the bugs feeding on red berries...and now I'm going to have to explore that in more depth. o.o

  5. Cute pic, and the first fact is probably why our hamsters used to keep us awake all night with their incessant gnawing. We turn our heads to the right, too - something I've never thought about.

    L. M. Leffew, I found out about that from the news. All those wonderful red and pink colors in yogurt and shakes..comes from crushed bugs. Yum!

    DayDreamer, Oh yeah, if we didn't keep something for our rats to chew on in their cages, I'm sure I would be hearing all sorts of gnawing going on.

  12. Shelley, Oh yeah, I don't buy canned mushrooms for this very reason. Fresh is always the way to go.
