Apartment Life #250

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 23 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 23 years here in a weekly blog post.
---

Imagine my surprise when I go to check the mail and there's an new bank of mailboxes out there with a sign that says we have to go down to the post office to get our new keys. So I go down to the post office only to have them tell me they don't know what I'm talking about. They said it might take 2 weeks for me to get a key. But she had me fill out a form to bring back that may or may not get approved for me to get a new key because apparently they don't give out free keys unless you have just moved into the apartment in the last 30 days. She had no idea what I was talking about, she asked her supervisor and he had no idea what I was talking about. They had no record of a new bank of mailboxes being put in so they had no keys to give out. She told me to check back in a week or I could try to catch the mailman out there and see if he will give me my mail. So I'll call in a week and see what happens. Once a bunch of the residents here start going down to the post office to get their keys, I have a feeling they might try to figure out where the hell the keys are. The right hand has no idea what left hand is doing apparently.

I was able to catch the mail lady once so far and she did give me my mail that day.

---

There was a fire truck parked right in front of my apartment complex on Wednesday. But no ambulance showed up and they were only in the apartment for a few minutes so I guess whatever it was the person is alright.

---

A couple of weeks ago I told you that an older guy my my building was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. When I saw him back home and his face was all bruised up I asked him if he was alright. This is the guy who's brother is homeless and he lets him sleep in a chair in the corner by his apartment. Well the homeless brother was outside his apartment and got mad at him and punched him in the face, breaking his cheekbone and giving him a black eye. Both brothers are older, probably in their late 60's but the guy who lives there and got punched is a frail old man who walks with a cane. I felt bad for him because his face is all swollen and bruised up. It's no wonder he doesn't let his homeless brother stay with him in the apartment. He's told me before that his brother is addicted to meth and heroine.

---

My daughter was outside and saw my neighbor who I told you a few weeks ago is cheating on his wife with a woman around here... he was coming out of the old maintenance shop with that woman. The maintenance people keep screwing it shut because people keep breaking in, well he broke in probably so he and that woman would have a quiet place to have some alone time together. My daughter said when she walked by them that she started laughing because she couldn't help it because he looked like he just got caught, which he did. Good grief, just divorce your wife if you want to sleep around.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. Aaaargh.
I really hope they sort out the mailbox thing - and quickly.
I feel for your elderly neighbour and agree - the guy who cannot keep his pants zipped should just get a divorce.

No idea they put up new mailboxes? You guys can't wait weeks for your mail!

    1. They didn't inform us of new mailboxes or anything. Hopefully they have a key for me next week.

  4. Though I'd be infuriated with the mailbox thing it's no surprise to me. Nowadays, it seems, nothing is as it was and anything goes and no one gives two shits. Just my thoughts. Enjoy your Sunday, Mary.

  5. What the heck?? The mailbox thing is nuts. If the mail delivery person has a key to open it, then the post office had to know about the new boxes. Good grief.

Here's hoping! But really, this is plain absurd. Or, wait...maybe the keys are IN the mailboxes, and you're supposed to force them in order to retrieve your keys 🤔 😂.

That poor man. I wish there was a way for him to convince his brother to get help.

"My daughter said when she walked by them that she started laughing because she couldn't help it because he looked like he just got caught, which he did. Good grief, just divorce your wife if you want to sleep around."
LOL, he's very subtle too, isn't he?

  10. Its hard, a person can want to help their family members but its important to give space as well. They must have a unique functioning relationship.

  11. I'll never understand cheaters. You can't be happy in your marriage or you wouldn't be cheating. Like you said, just divorce your partner and sleep with whoever you want!

  12. Such craziness where you live! I can't believe they switched out the mail boxes without giving anyone keys. Hope that gets worked out soon.

  13. Hi, Mary!

Thank you again for checking out my post at Shady's Place today! It was a pleasure to meet you and I hope to see you back there again soon.

My goodness, Mary, when I looked at your profile, I thought I was reading my own! Turns out you and I have gobs of things in common. In particular, your list of favorite films and music is closely aligned with mine. I too am a lifelong fan of horror, sci-fi, the supernatural, suspense and mystery. I too love 80s hair bands along with rock and metal bands of the 21st century.

You shared some interesting tidbits about apartment life. It shouldn't require a stake-out for you to get your daily mail. It will be fun to follow the adventures and misadventures of your neighbor who cheats on his wife with another woman from the complex. I doubt they sleep together, however. I think they stay wide awake the whole time. :)

I suspect you found me on Alex J's blog, because I don't know or follow any of your other friends. I often refer to myself as a new friend waiting to happen. With that in mind, I look forward to the possibility of cultivating relationships with you and some of the nice people who visit Dark Thoughts.

Thank you again for taking an interest in Shady's Place Music & Memories, Mary. Have a great week!

  14. The mailbox saga is crazy. So I wonder what they do with the mail the people get, shove it in the box until it is full. Crazy and your neighbors are unique with some serious problems. Divorce and move on and the brothers ought to stay away from each other. Hope you have a quiet week.

  16. We don't have a postman/lady delivering the mail. We get it from the mailbox (there's an outer wall of mail boxes with one for each resident in the area).
If we lose the key, we'll get the mail temporary inside the post office, and will have to pay for a new key.I'm always careful not to lose the key or break it during opening of the maibox, in order to avoid trouble.

  18. I think you can ask the Post office to hold all your mail to pick up in person if they keep this up. I would think it's illegal to not give you access to your mail!

That poor guy! His brother is a burden. Yep that guy just needs to get a divorce.

The poor man. That was heartbreaking.

The mailbox stuff is just ridiculous.

  21. I hope you are able to get your mail keys soon. I remember having to go to the "neighborhood" post office to pick up our keys (and pay a fee) when the community mailbox got broken into and had to be replaced. The people at my post office seemed confused too. There are two post offices closer than out assigned neighborhood post office as it is and it's a bit of a drive to get there. I don't get it.

I am glad your neighbor who was beaten by his brother is home now. Hopefully his brother won't be around anymore, but I wouldn't be surprised if you tell us he does come by again at some point.

As to the cheater . . . Talk about desperate. I can't even imagine what he and that woman are thinking. I don't understand people like that.

I hope you have a great week, Mary. Take care.

  23. Lots of issues here--mail, adultery, the lack of brotherly love... I would think there would be a postal requirement (Ie, a law) that you had to be given a key as soon as there are new boxes.

  25. Many people don't have the strength to divorce, they are weak and that is why they cheat.

  26. I hope that you get your mailbox keys soon! How frustrating! I hate to hear about your frail neighbor being hit by his brother. That's terrible.

  27. That mailbox business sounds like a total fiasco. You would think that whoever installed the new mailboxes would at the same time give out keys to the mailbox-owners. But no, nothing so simple!
