Apartment Life #283

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.

This tweaker lives in my neighborhood somewhere and sometimes she just starts yelling for no apparent reason like this night. She was out of video shot so I didn't try to make it less fuzzy. This is just an audio of what she was doing.

---
I heard the police helicopter flying overhead and looked out my bedroom window and spotted a police car around the corner. The police stopped that guy in the hoodie and talked to him for a few minutes and then let him go. Then the police got out of the car and walked into the apartments they were near and talked to a few people over there.

Then they got back in their car and left.

----

On Thursday morning at 1:30am I was woke up from two gunshots and they sounded close by. I got up after laying in bed for a minute to make sure that I wasn't gonna get a stray bullet through the wall or my bedroom window and checked on my daughter. Then I looked outside but didn't see anyone around and no one was screaming so I figured that some idiot shot off a couple into the sky. The police didn't show up so I guess no one called. I didn't see any bullet holes the next morning so I assume I was right about someone shooting into the air.

----

The high this week was 60F/15C
The low this week was 32F/0 C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

    1. I've been dealing with things like this for 25 years so I guess I'm just used to it.

What goes up comes down -- those bullets hit somewhere, even if it was a long way away. In the Middle East it's a known thing for people to be killed by falling bullets because shooting guns in the air in celebration is such a common habit. Whoever was doing that needs to be prosecuted for reckless endangerment or something.

    1. I agree. But I called the police the first few times it happened and unless you can tell them who and where it was coming from, there's nothing they can do and all they do is drive around and leave so I don't even bother calling them anymore if I don't see who did it.

  3. Hi, Mary!

That video shot at 3 am feat. the sound of a yelling tweaker might not be what it seems. That might actually be her "indoor voice." :) If that's the case, trust me, you don't want to piss her off.

I see your overnight temp reached the freezing point. Perhaps that fact alone is what inspired the "celebratory gunfire" outside your window. With the sound of shots fired occurring so often in your neighborhood, soon it will seem like "white noise" and lull you to sleep at night. Seriously, it is completely unacceptable to be awakened by the sound of shooting close by and need to check on your daughter to make sure she's okay. I also agree with Infidel753. Celebratory gunfire is a reckless and very dangerous act. Here in Central Florida a few years ago, a bullet dropped from the sky and pierced the skull of a little boy one New Year's Eve or 4th of July. I can't remember which holiday it was, but he was seriously wounded.

Thanks for the report. Have a safe and happy week, dear friend Mary!

The woman yelling has been around here for years and she does it in the Summer time too. I think she might have mental problems and that's why she does it.

  4. Clearly the Crazies don't take the Holidays 'off' and continue with their usual Lunacy around there. You must have nerves of Steel by now!?

  9. That's how it is. Governments are busy interfering in other countries' affairs while having no control over domestic affairs such as shootings and drugs. Scary!

    1. The government doesn't have a lot of control over individuals anywhere. And interfering in other countries has not much to do with what I posted today.

  10. Helicopters have become regulars at your place, it seems. And now what, random gunshots? I can't even imagine not being able to sleep one night without all the hassle.

    1. I hear or see the police helicopter around here a lot. But I see it in other neighborhoods around here at night as well.

  11. Looks like the walking dead around your place. If folks start screaming where I'm at, it's almost expected. today I guy told me there were several people sleeping in stairwells, I empathize though because its too cold for the homeless to be outside or in tents in MN.

    1. I'm pretty sure the screaming woman has some mental problems.

  12. Nothing like just randomly shouting at night for no reason. :) Although she probably has a "reason" lol.

    Gunshots yikes. Be safe!

    1. I think her reason is she has some mental problems.
The gunshots around here happen but not as often as they used to when there were some gang members in the neighborhood.

  13. I hate when people shoot into the air; they never seem to remember that what goes up must come down. Glad you're okay. :)

  14. Some holiday peace would be nice. Stay safe!

  15. Glad you and your family are safe and sound with all the hullabaloo going on. We had some nut in our neighborhood who liked to shoot his/her gun randomly like that. They think it's safe b/c they aren't shooting at people. Ugh!

    Take care, lady!

  16. Cooler this week. Having been there 24 years has it changed or has it always been similar to the way things are now? I hope you have a very happy holiday.

  21. Shooting off for the hell of it is ridiculous. But there seem to be plenty of ridiculous things going on in your neighbourhood!
