Apartment Life #363

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 26 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 26 years here in a weekly blog post.

Falcor stared down a new dog in the neighborhood. They stared at each other while us humans laughed. Later that day he met the dog and they got along fine. The other dog is a little black and white Chihuahua. Another old man like Falcor.

The police were back across the street for that same apartment upstairs as last week. I don't know what's happening since no one was arrested. The police didn't even stay that long.

A little while later the Fire Department ambulance showed up down the street and took an elderly man to the ER. Hopefully he's better from whatever sent him to the hospital soon.

This is our apartment security. Early in the morning they showed up because there were a bunch of homeless people camped out in front of the office. There's an electrical outlet right next to the office door that people use to charge their phones. So there's people sleeping there at night quite often.
---

On Wednesday the apartment manager was knocking on everyone's door telling us all that they were having inspections from the owner and we all had to put our chairs and tables inside. Anyone who didn't answer their door right then she had the maintenance guy wheeling a big trash can around with him put anything sitting outside into the trash. I watched as the guy across from me had his bbq thrown in the trash. Others had their folding chairs tossed in the trash. The manager told me it was just for today and she's hoping that if nothing is out that the owner won't tell her to put out notices saying we aren't allowed to have anything outside our doors. Technically we aren't allowed to have bbq's here at all, it's in the lease agreement.

The owner hasn't been around since he bought this place 7 years ago so this doesn't happen often.

One of the homeless ladies living with Johnathan (BB Gun dude) came outside in her underwear and took their bbq and chair inside his apartment. I am hoping we don't have a problem with her trying to stay there when he moves out on the 20th. I might have to call the office and let them know. They have been having loud parties almost every night.
----

I went outside when I heard the police helicopter up flying around my street and spotted this police car parked near the alley. There were other police cars driving up and down my street and some police officers running up and down the street on the sidewalk. They were looking for someone but they all took off really fast so I think whoever it was went somewhere else while they were looking here. They all left fast so I have no idea if they found who they were looking for.

The high this week was 76F/24C
The low this week was 51F/10C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. There is always something going on. No BBQs? That is weird.

    1. The trees are dead, there are dry pine needles everywhere that could catch fire. There have been 2 apartment fires in the past 5 years. I think they are worried about something catching fire from the bbq's.

    2. That's a good point. I do like to BBQ, though.

    3. P.S. Falcor is adorable!

  2. If management just enforced their own rules from the beginning, they wouldn't have to go around tossing everybody's stuff.

  3. I know apartment complexes have rules and they are there for a reason. But to throw away peoples belongings when they could go inside? If no one answers the door, I suppose this was the only thing to do. Falcor is a handsome lad. Maybe he'll have a new friend when you are out walking. Seems like it must get noisy with the lights and sirens so often.

    1. Technically we aren't supposed to have anything outside our doors. Thank you. Falcor is 11 years old, my little old man. It is noisy around here.

  4. The emergency services are certainly kept busy in your neighbourhood.

  5. Our condo complex is cracking down on barbecue pits. They can't be used on decks or patios.

    1. I can understand that. Too easy for a fire to start.

  6. Prior notice of the inspection would have been a good idea, rather than knocking on doors, trashing everything. And rather than worrying about chairs outside, management should be more worried about that nasty leak that's been festering and covered up by maintenance. The guy being looked for by the cops might have dodged them by jumping down into the tunnel, LOL.

    1. We're not supposed to have anything outside so they feel it's within their right to just trash anything out there when they feel like it I guess.

They cleaned up the sewage for the inspection. LOL

Oh I have no doubt some of these people are using the tunnels to escape the police.

  7. I will never understand how homeless have cell phones. Even prepaid plans expire.

    1. I know some of them get SSI or Social Security checks. They use their money each month until it runs out.

  8. Having no barbecues is sad. Maybe they could designate an area for people to use a grill but I guess that would create other problems.

  9. Glad Falcor and the chihuahua are getting on okay now. It wouldn't be much fun if they started snarling and snapping at each other.

    1. lol There is another Chihuahua that barks and growls at Falcor. Poor guy just wants to play with the other dog but we all call the little guy, Killer around here because he's so unfriendly. LOL

  10. An inspection after seven years? Yeah, I wouldn't have been too worried about inspections, either. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. Maintenance does an apartment inspection each year but the owner hasn't done an inspection in years.

  11. I am glad Falcor made a friend. :-) That seems a bit much to throw away people's outdoor belongings without warning. I hope you have a good week, Mary.

  12. OMG - I hope that Jonathan doesn't try to have a BBQ inside! Did the owner come and inspect yet? Seems like a pretty quiet week, so that's good. How's your grandson doing with the cast?

    1. They weren't inspecting inside the apartments, just the grounds.

  14. Sounds like a fairly busy week. What a pain apartment inspections can be!

  15. Nothing like a last minute scramble to get rid of things. Couldn't the manager have learned of the owner coming by way earlier and giving people time to fix it?

  16. Our apartments here don't have security

Or at least I hope they don't need it

  17. So now I'm wondering... Have BBQs ever been a problem in those 7 years?
