Apartment Life #378
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 26 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 26 years here in a weekly blog post.
Last week I saw this guy giving out drinks to the other homeless people in the area. Which I thought was nice of him. He's homeless as well. But then after watching for a minute, I noticed after he poured the red drink in their cups, he added something else from a small jar. He picked it out with his finger and added it to the drink and swirled the drink a little. The people saw what he was doing so they knew. I figured it was drugs.
I've never seen this woman before but she didn't look homeless. I haven't seen her since. She got one of the drinks though.
A few minutes later Jessica (The Mayor of Tunnel Town) Yes, she's actually known as the mayor down in the tunnels. She took over the cart that had the drinks and cups in it and poured a few more drinks and added the (special) something that was being added to it.
Sure enough a little while later I walked outside with Falcor and one of the homeless people was passed out on the sidewalk. I knew her and she was trying to stay upright but was wobbling back and forth. I asked her if she was ok but she just stared blankly at me and went back to sleep on the sidewalk. I've called the ambulance on people when I've seen them like this but the only thing they do is make them get up and leave or leave them there to sleep it off so I didn't bother but an hour later she was gone from the spot.

See how dark it is on the ground right up against the fence line? Someone set fire to the pine needles and trash that was there. Real smart. This is at the end of my apartment building. Thankfully it looks like they put it out before the fire spread anywhere else.
Seeing that there was a fire really close to my apartment building was scary though because fire moves fast.
On Thursday I spotted the police across the street from where I was standing with Falcor. They were at the apartment complex next to mine. No idea why.
I spotted this in front of someone's door a few doors from mine. Is this funny or a warning to guests?

You remember that beanbag bed/chair that the homeless man was laying on last week with his pants down around his ankles? Well this is what's left of it. It turned out to have shredded memory foam inside it, not beans. Someone had been sleeping on it in our alley and then someone tore it open and left all the shredded memory foam in a pile in the alley.
What happened to all the shredded memory foam? Well we had a windy day because of the storms in the area and it blew all over the neighborhood. All those light colored pieces you see all over the ground right here are shredded memory foam. It was everywhere but the wind blew it away.
The high this week was 110F/43C
The low this week was 80F/26C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

A person would have to be absolutely nuts to drink something sold by that guy out of a shopping cart with something completely unknown added to it.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the "cocaine" doormat picture, I thought the next picture was a huge pile of cocaine in the parking lot!
Hi, Mary!
ReplyDeleteIn my month long absence from the blog scene, there have been plenty of strange goings on in your neighborhood, dear friend, most of it non-violent and involving the homeless population in your area. If we shared their plight, I suppose we too would look forward to visiting that guy's Kool-Aid stand. "Whatever gets you through the night" (or hot day). The last thing you need is a careless vandal setting a fire on your block. If the mischief happened on a windy day, the result could be disastrous. Looks like Christmas in July with all that white stuff scattered on the ground, another sad reminder of desperate lives played out on the streets (and down in the tunnels).
I hope you and my buddy Falcor have been well since we last spoke. I'm celebrating my 17th blog anniversary today and invite you to join the fun at Shady's Place if you have time. Have a nice Sunday and a safe and happy week ahead, dear friend Mary!
What desperate lives some people live and there's no way out for most of them.
ReplyDeleteHaving a Mayor of Tunnel Town suggests there's a sense of community and order in the tunnels.
Well there's a nasty mess for you having foam blow all over the place . And I guess they were happy to get their free cocktails weren't they. Thank goodness that fire did not spread especially with the wind that you were talking about. I guess the best you can do is to keep your eyes open and your door locked when you're not taking a walk. Be safe
ReplyDeleteI just about gagged when you described how the guy mixed the drinks.
ReplyDeleteYour low is about our low right now. Although yours isn't as miserably humid as ours.
You always have something to report.
