Apartment Life #385
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 27 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 27 years here in a weekly blog post.
Last year my apartment manager hired contractors to paint my apartment complex. It was a complete fiasco which I talked about in this post. If you haven't read it, it's funny because I was sealed in my apartment and had to break out to take the dog out. At that time they took all the building numbers off the buildings and it took months of complaining to get maintenance to glue building numbers back on the buildings. Well they probably should have nailed or screwed those numbers to the buildings because the glue they used isn't sticking too well in this heat we're having and the numbers are falling off.
Here's the missing number on the ground. They used a bunch of glue but it melted in our scorching heat and didn't stick too well.
I had wondered why there were no building numbers out front for the back buildings. Well I just realized that these idiots put the back building numbers on the back of the buildings facing the alley. Now who is going to drive down the alley to find a building number? I see the ambulances, fire engines, Door Dash, Amazon and other delivery trucks driving up and down the street several times looking for building numbers that aren't facing the street. And yes, I know this building looks like a jail with the security bars on the window. That's the laundry room and they had to do that to keep the homeless people from breaking the window and breaking in to the laundry room to do drugs and passing out in there.
---
I know you can't see the dog very well but I circled him in red. I was walking past the pool courtyard in my complex and saw two homeless ladies in the pool. One of them had her dog out there as well. (One of these days I will get a better camera lol)
The homeless people around here have been treating the pool like a bathtub recently. Bathing themselves and their dogs. They can get in because someone in this courtyard took a handsaw to the pool lock and broke it open. Management doesn't care, they've been informed. When I walked out there to check the mail, one lady was picking the scabs off the other lady's back while they were sitting in the pool. I don't use the pool and I see the pool cleaner out there every week but eww. No thank you.
The high this week was 102F/38C
The low this week was 78F/25C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

No I wouldn't be using that pool anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's been years for me.
DeleteDefinitely not!
DeleteWhat dumbass maintenance people. Surely it would have been cheaper and more permanent to just paint the numbers on the buildings. The wall coloring is so light that black painted numbers would stand out well.
ReplyDeleteEven if I wasn't phobic about water, I wouldn't trust a communal pool. You can't trust anyone's hygiene these days, and it only takes one person.
You would think maintenance would fix the building number problem but they don't care. I won't be going in the pool.
DeleteThat is absolutely disgusting. That management doesn't care is just as disgusting.
ReplyDeleteI know.
DeleteIt's a wildlife in your neighborhood. It's sadly funny about your building numbers so that anyone could find you are not staying on the wall. And I certainly wouldn't swim in that swimming pool either knowing what's going on.
ReplyDeleteI see ambulances driving up and down the street at times looking for the building numbers, they get out and knock on doors to find them.
DeleteThat is ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteMind you, we're finding it difficult to find good contractors here. Our chimney is leaking into the house. sigh.
Good contactors are hard to find.
DeleteA fiasco is rght
ReplyDeleteYeah.
DeleteHi, Mary!
ReplyDeleteI missed that post last year in which you and my buddy Falcor got sealed into your apartment like sardines in the can. I have learned not to trust the word of contracted workers when they give estimates on the amount of time a job will take, when they will arrive to start, what time they will finish etc.
Such poor planning to glue numbers on buildings in a city that experiences triple digit heat for months at a time. Even worse, putting numbers on the side of the building facing the alley instead of the street. Food and package delivery is one thing, but first responders need to locate victims as quickly as possible. If they need to ride around the block searching for the correct residence, lives could be lost. The goings on at the pool are disgusting and dangerously unsanitary. Many dogs like to take a drink of pool water to quench their thirst in the heat. My Toto always did that. Please don't let Falcor go anywhere near that filthy cesspool.
I wish you a safe and happy week ahead and a great September, dear friend Mary. See you at the start of next month when I usher in Shadyween 2025!
Having to break out of my apartment was crazy that day they painted. First responders have a hard time finding the addresses around here. Oh Falcor isn't going in the pool.
DeletePoor homeless ones and poor you.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for them.
DeleteWhoever put the numbers on your building is a complete genius LOL.
ReplyDeleteI guess the homeless ladies do what they can to get by...
Oh yes, genius is right. Yes they have to do what they have to do but it's still eww.
DeleteHorrible to be homeless.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it is but we have shelters here but they won't go to them because they can't do drugs there.
DeleteIt's crazy they put the numbers on the back of the buildings!
ReplyDeleteI know.
DeleteThank you for sharing this post. It’s clear that you’ve been very patient and observant over the years, and your stories show both the frustrations and the little ab
ReplyDeletesurdities of everyday life. Living in a place where basic maintenance and safety seem neglected can be exhausting, yet your humor and perspective make it relatable. It’s a reminder of how important it is to show grace even in challenging situations, and to stay grounded amidst chaos. I look forward to reading more of your weekly experiences.
Thank you.
Deletehow curious that management doesn't care about pool access. That is baffling to me.
ReplyDeleteIt is to me too.
DeletePoor homeless hobos.
ReplyDeleteI do feel sorry for them.
DeleteOMG! Picking off scabs in the pool. Eeek! Management needs to give up on a pool, plant a garden or something.
ReplyDeleteThat's not gonna happen. lol
DeleteSounds like the pool is thoroughly unhygienic. I certainly wouldn't want to use it myself.
ReplyDeleteI won't be going in it.
DeleteAll disturbing. Mary, I can’t remember, but were there homeless people when you moved in or was it gradual? When were were last in Vegas 2016) I was surprised by how many homeless were on the Strip. It was not like that in previous years.
ReplyDeleteNo, it was a nice family neighborhood and gradually got worse. The homeless population here has risen in the last decade.
DeleteDo any residents swim in the pool, or is it just the homeless who use it?
ReplyDeleteResidents swim it in too.
DeleteThey put a kind of grid thingy on our laundry room/mail room window as people had been getting in to steal mail. Multiple times. I'm irritated with our HOA and management company, but yours is so way worse. (We had a pool issue a while back--the ducks found it and decided it was theirs.)
ReplyDeleteDucks would be interesting.
DeleteNo pool for me either. Management ought to fix the lock but they won't.
ReplyDeleteNo they won't.
DeleteA big ewwww from me, also. What a sad, sad situation. As for the number situation, just shaking my head. Wow. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThat's all I can do too.
DeleteBy law you're supposed to have an address posted visible from the street. At least that's how it is in California. Safety reasons. I wouldn't go swimming in that pool either! Eww is right!
ReplyDeleteThey'd probably just pay the fine like they do from the health department when there's a sewer backup all over the grounds.
DeleteOh yuck, no pool fun with that going on!
ReplyDeleteI haven't used the pool in years.
DeleteOMG... the number on the ground just cracked me up. Maybe they should paint the numbers on the building?
ReplyDeleteI would stay far away from the pool. ewww! I hope you have a good week.
They should paint the numbers on the buildings.
DeleteYour never fail to entertain and shock me at the same time especially with this apartment stories. OMG I don’t blame you for steering clear after what you saw. Management really needs to step up.
ReplyDeleteThey should but I doubt they will.
DeleteGoodness, I wouldn't swim in that pool either, but too bad if you wanted to.
ReplyDeleteShame about the numbers falling off. Sometimes you just have to wondering about these people having a brain!
Not a whole brain between all of them. lol
DeletePoor management! That is crazy about the building numbers!!! And the pool. shame for the homeless mind you. We have a big problem over here too with homelessness.
ReplyDeleteWe've had highs of 16C this week! Autumn is here in Scotland now.
I would love some cooler temps right now.
DeleteThere are apps for delivery drivers to help them find certain apartment numbers. Not sure what they’re called though.
ReplyDeleteYeah but the apps get it wrong all the time.
DeleteOK, I applaud you for living in an apt for 27 years? Yes, this was a fiasco.
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice place when we first moved here.
DeleteYou have some not very bright people in charge of installing the house numbers, and I hope something can be done about turfing the homeless people out of the pool area, yuk, sounds horrible.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the building numbers get fixed and they fix the lock on the pool gate.
DeleteOh that place, sighs
ReplyDeleteI know.
DeleteThat would ruin me for the pool too! I can't believe they never replaced the numbers on the front of the buildings. Or maybe I can believe it, but that really is ridiculous. Especially given how involved emergency services is in the area.
