Apartment Life #408
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 27 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 27 years here in a weekly blog post.
An ambulance showed up for someone in the building next to me. No cops showed up so I'm thinking it was a medical emergency.
---
This is what my old Air Conditioner looked like. I asked the manager for a new one because this thing was soooo noisy last year. It squeaked, clanged and froze up all the time. And it leaked water into the wall that spilled out and soaked my carpet twice last year. Plus the maintenance man who put this is, secured around it with ugly tape. lol It was terrible.
So on Thursday maintenance came out and removed the old AC, boarded up the hole that was left there. Spackled it, so it looked like the hole was never there.
And installed one of the new, quiet AC's. Oh, this thing makes no noise in my apartment because the motor is on the roof. Another blogger told me this was called a Mini-split AC, Thank you for letting me know what this was called. I love the new AC.
---
I told you a couple of weeks ago that maintenance started installing nighttime lights all over the property, so that it would discourage any drug activity and anyone from sleeping around the property at night. So I took some night pictures to show you the difference after the lights were up. It's pretty dark around the complex.
Down the street.
My complex is on the right. The street lights light it up some but not a lot.
This is what it looks like now with all the lights on. It's very bright out around my complex now.
The lights are spaced out about every 20 feet. All the way down the street.
It's not dark anymore. Some of the crackheads across the street are already saying how they are going to break some of the lights.
Well, as fast as they are doing things around here, I bet they fix any broken lights fast.
Maintenance hasn't completed any of the things they are doing right now except for the lights. They are still putting in new decorative rocks, painting the buildings, filling in the pool with dirt and doing maintenance. Hopefully their bosses let them finish some of these things before telling them to change something else. But the lights aren't all that bad. If it discourages people from doing drugs in the dark around here and sleeping in the corners, I guess that's a good thing.
The high this week was 69F/20C
The low this week was 47F/8C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Sounds like things are looking up! The new air conditioner should be a relief in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI hope so. At least they were able to do it in a relatively short amount of time.
DeleteI guess as long as you have a good blackout curtain the lights aren't terribly inconvenient to you... but might be to the crappy people who hang around the place at night. The new AC looks nice and will probably be more efficient.
ReplyDeleteI have blackout curtains in my room. I hope it's more efficient.
DeleteThis new management company does seem to be moving at a very quick Pace on making changes. I'm glad to hear you got the air conditioner replaced before you start getting actual hot summer temperatures. It looks like a nice outfit that they put in.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are working their butts off for sure.
DeleteYour new AC unit is so much better.
ReplyDeleteSad the laws aren't strong enough to deter druggies but lights will. Go figure.
I hope it works well this Summer. It sure looks better. The lights do keep people away. At least for now.
DeleteThat new air con unit looks good. They installed it well :-D
ReplyDeleteThey did. Took them 5 hours.
DeleteHi, Mary!
ReplyDeleteApart from the ugly paint job on the exterior walls, it seems like the management company is on the ball, getting things done and making steady improvements around your community. I'm thrilled that you have a new, much quieter AC unit. Having water leaking into the walls was problematic and might have promoted mold. If the bright security lights don't bother you at night when you are trying to sleep, then that is another important step in the right direction at your complex.
Hope you and my buddy Falcor had a nice V-Day. I've got my February post running at Shady's Place and hope to meet you back here at your site around the second week of March. Till then, take care, dear friend Mary!
The paint job is terrible but they are doing a lot of work fo sure.
DeleteThat old AC was horrible looking with that tape. Enjoy your new mini-split. And the quiet.
ReplyDeleteYes it looked bad and it sounded even worse.
DeleteIt looks like they are serious about trying to improve the place.
ReplyDeleteYes, it does seem that way. I wonder how much the rent will increase this year.
DeleteGlad you got the new AC. Those lights make a big difference.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. They really do light things up around here.
DeleteMiddle Son has one of those air conditioners. It's so quiet I can't even tell when it's on
ReplyDeleteIt's so quiet.
DeleteHooray for that new and quiet air conditioner and the lights look pretty darn good out there!
ReplyDeleteYes, things do look a bit better.
DeleteIf it makes the area safer it's a good thing. Can't help feeling sorry for the homeless, though.
ReplyDeleteI understand that.
DeleteWow that's a nice AC they replaced. The lights are great. Hope they are not broken. Have a nice Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Hopefully they stay unbroken for a while.
DeleteYay for a new modern AC. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteSorry about the floodlights! I like the dark!
ReplyDeleteYou and me both.
DeleteI am so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteThey are making improvements.
DeleteAgreed, the old air conditioner is pretty unsightly. Having the motor on the roof so it's quiet inside sounds good.
ReplyDeleteThe old one was terrible.
DeleteI'm glad it's fixed. My ex had a similar ac at her rental house back in 2020. It went out and it was miserable
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to get a new one that so much quieter.
DeleteSo pleased the new AC is now done and you are pleased with it.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you.
DeleteI like the mini-split technology. I had two installed in the addition I did about two years ago and they work great and are very efficient (and super quiet).
ReplyDeleteThank you. It does seem to be a nicer one.
DeleteThat is a nice A/C. And they did a great job of installing it. Lights around the building are a good idea. Hopefully it discourages the homeless element that's given you so much trouble.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope so.
DeleteIt staying lighter longer.
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteHappy to hear they finally made some positive changes! The mini-splits are very effective! I think you'll be pleased with it!
ReplyDeleteSo far it seems much better than what I had and quieter too.
DeleteYour new A/C is looking good. The lights are great and certainly brighten up the area, let's hope those lights are not broken, Mary
ReplyDeleteThings are better. They are making improvements.
Deletethat is one beautiful well deserved ac unit!! What a remarkable difference!!
ReplyDeleteSo much difference.
DeleteYay for new AC! It looks so much nicer than your old one. Glad they actually came and fixed the problem. :D
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that they came and fixed it for me.
DeleteThese split ACs is what we use here in Europe as well, as we are not as wasteful as Americans, so we do not use central ACs. Strange, though, that he would put the plug under it LOL You do need to clean this one twice a month, just open it, clean the filter in the tub, spray the inside with some antiseptic spray and wipe it all with a cloth.
ReplyDeleteThat last one we had was not central AC. It was just a window AC but the motor was not on the roof so it was really noisy.
DeleteI haven't blog-hopped for a few weeks...glad I'm coming back to find some improvements made in and around your apartment!
ReplyDeleteYes, they are doing somethings around here.
DeleteWhat a big improvement with the new air conditioner. I hope having ights will cut down on all the nightime activity.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too.
DeleteOh that new AC unit is nice!! It sounds like the new management is trying hard for the most part. Sounds like it was a pretty quiet week - that's good! Did you have a nice birthday?
ReplyDeleteThey are making improvements of sorts.
DeleteHopefully the lights stay in one piece. Lovely improvements so far!
ReplyDeleteHopefully.
DeleteOhh nice with a no sound ac
