Apartment Life: #414

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 27 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 27 years here in a weekly blog post.

Life Update:

My daughter is home from the hospital and was doing a bit better and then on Thursday had to go back to the ER. I wrote about that a couple of days ago. The doctors refuse to give her anything more powerful than Gabapentin or Ibuprofen so she's eating marijuana edibles for the pain and that is actually helping. She has a lot of doctors to see in the near future. I want to thank you all for sharing and donating to the GoFundMe that my daughter's friend set up for her. It meant a lot to us both.

I'm doing a bit better. I still can't raise my arms above my head but the headache from the concussion is gone and the pain everywhere is a little bit less.
---

Sunday evening I heard the police helicopter flying over my apartment complex and looked outside. I spotted 2 police cars and stood there watching what was going on across the street. All of the sudden people started running out of all the apartments across the street because the police were making them evacuate.

The police started gathering together as more police cars started pulling up.

And then there were 5 of them and the police cars just kept coming.

The the K9 showed up. All of this happened in less than 40 minutes.

I watched the cop in the truck pull out a sledgehammer and a prybar as well as his shield. I knew they were getting ready to break the door open. I found out from neighbors when I went outside that there was a standoff situation going on across the street. The wife was standing outside trying to call the husband and he locked himself in the apartment and wouldn't come out. I don't know if he had a hostage or a gun or what but that's a lot of police and they evacuated the other apartments so I'm thinking he probably did.

Lots of police and Animal control came and picked up a loose pitbull that had been running around for 3 days.

People were lining the street, sitting on the sidewalk watching it all unfold. I took a few pictures as I walked Falcor and then went back inside.

Then the police breached the door and arrested the guy that is standing in front of the police truck.

And then I got a little video when they broke the door down, rushed in and arrested the guy. My brother, Billy is always asking me to get video when things like this happen.
----

Poor Falcor is looking at me like, "Are you sure this is a good idea?" 🤣🤣

You might remember last year when I posted pictures about a lady named Shasta who took her wheelchair and ran all over our little garden and pretty much destroyed it. Well, Shasta is homeless and has been for quite some time. Last week she came to my door and asked me if she could get a glass of ice water and if I could charge up her power wheelchair. It was 90F/32C outside and I felt bad for her so I let her in.

She assured me that it would only take 20 minutes to charge her chair.  🤔 So we sat there and talked and she apologized for destroying our garden. But her excuse was that the spirit of our friend, my elderly neighbor had possessed her wheel chair and made her crash twice. Once in our garden and once down the street. She said the spirit was trying to kill her. But the funny thing was that our friend, Dorothy hadn't even passed away yet! I know she caught herself in the lie but she decided to just go with it.

I told her it had been 45 minutes and I had to go walk the dog. She wanted me to put the extension cord outside and I said no. So she went on her way. Or so I thought.

Not 5 minutes later I see the ambulance show up down by my apartment. Sure enough Shasta had called them right after she left my place. There was nothing wrong with her while she was in my apartment.

I walked by the ambulance so you could see it's the same power wheelchair. The ambulance waited there for a van to come and pick up the chair and bring it to the ER with her. It took about 20 minutes.

I guess she just needed a place to stay for the night and when I didn't bite, she decided to go to the ER. Wow.

The high this week was 98F/36C
The low this week was 66F/18C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. Glad to hear that the edibles are helping your daughter and that your own condition has improved somewhat. Hopefully one of those doctors she will be seeing will be willing to give her more effective treatment. Pain is horribly debilitating and is in itself an obstacle to recovery.

I hope that guy who cause the crisis across the street gets some serious penalty. Hell of a pain in the ass for all the people who had to evacuate with no notice.

Shasta was incredibly brazen, asking for help after wrecking your garden. It's nice to want to help, but there are people who, if you let them get a foot in the door, will try to take root in your life.

    1. I'm glad she found something that helps too. I'm getting there, still having some pain but it will get better eventually.

Hopefully he won't be back for a while.

Oh I know. She said she was moving back East with family so hopefully I won't see her again.

  2. Dang! You have all the fun and drama. The only fun I get is when the occasional Medflight chopper flies over our house on the way to or from the hospital. It's gotten so I can tell when they have a full load (pilot, nurse, patient) because the chopper just sounds like it's working harder to stay in the air.

    1. So much fun but lots of drama. lol That's so cool that you can hear the difference. Hopefully this week will be calmer but somehow I doubt it.

  4. Terrible they won't give your daughter anything stronger for the pain. Hope you both continue to improve.
That probably needs to be the last time you let Shasta in your apartment...

Shasta hopefully moved away like she told me she was going to. We'll see. My daughter said if she's here Shasta isn't coming in. lol

  6. That was quite an event, but you have many of those. I hope your daughter gets the help that she needs soon. I have meant to contribute to the cause, but I can’t remember. I read on the tablet and do transactions on the computer, and my brain can’t always remember one from the other.

  7. You and your daughter have had such a rough couple of weeks. I'm glad the pot gummies are helping with her pain, and that your concussion headache is gone. Slow improvements are still always welcome. Take care, both of you, and best wishes.

    1. I'm just glad I didn't break anything because it sure felt like I did at the time. My head is just too hard to break I guess. lol Yes, slow improvements are better than none.

  8. You have enough on your plate without inviting somebody to spend the night in your house. Especially someone like Shasta. It is a shame she's homeless but obviously she knows how to work the neighborhood. It's a good thing your headaches a little better because you sure had enough noise going on around there.

    1. Oh I know. She was never going to spend the night here. I was nice this time and charged up her chair, that was it. Shasta has been around here for at least 10 years. I've seen her a lot. I'm glad that headache is gone.

  9. Wow. What an insane couple of events. I think Shasta has more than just homelessness going on. It must be tough to be living rough like that, but...take care of yourself. Glad you are recovering from your fall and hope your daughter's pain continues to improve.

  10. I would have a hard time trusting someone who claims they're being controlled by spirits. Hearing voices, etc. Who knows what the voices might tell them to do.

  16. Awwww....poor, adorable Falcor! Dear Mary, I live in an apartment and I am extremely grateful that all the incidents you share do not occur here.
Yes, we do have the police come from time to time, but thankfully nothing as dramatic as in your photos here.
Bless your heart. Sending you and your daughter much love and many hugs.

  20. Sending healing prayers and energy to you and your daughter. I am glad she's finding a little relief - hopefully she will get a doctor who will not blow off her illness and symptoms. I'm glad you were able to help the homeless woman for a little while, you see so much of the bad stuff, and yet you try to remain positive and kind. We need more people like you in this world.
