Review: Luca's Magic Embrace (Immortals of New Orleans Book 2) by Kym Grosso

Book Description

An erotic paranormal romance...

Sexy vampire, Luca Macquarie doesn't do love; especially not with humans. Yet, ever since he rescued Samantha Irving, he can't deny the enigmatic attraction he's developed for the alluring mortal woman. Concerned for her safety, he's determined to bring Samantha back to her coven. His mission is to go find the novice witch and bring her home, nothing more, nothing less; falling for her is not supposed to be part of the plan.

Samantha doesn't want to be a witch, yet that's exactly what she is. After failing to elicit her magic, she escapes to the mountains in an attempt to resume a semblance of her previous human life. When an arsonist torches her cabin, Samantha's worst fears are realized. Aware that her life is on the line, she reluctantly agrees to return to New Orleans with Luca.

In the Big Easy, Samantha and Luca embark on a spellbinding journey, searching for a mystical amulet that promises to release her obligation from an ancient, lethal vampire who's been threatening her life. With cryptic clues and clandestine allies, will Luca and Samantha destroy the dangerous amulet before others acquire it, setting forth a chain of catastrophic consequences? And will Luca give into his erotic desire for the witch who magically captures heart?

Warning:  This book contains several love scenes and is intended for adult readers only.

My Review

This is the second book in the Immortals of New Orleans series and while it can be read a stand alone, it will make more sense if you read them in order.

We met Samantha in the first book, she had been under the spell of a powerful mage and a crazy vampire. She did things that she doesn't remember and because of the magic that had been used to be-spell her, part of that magic is part of her and she's now a witch who can't call her magic to the surface.

Luca was there was she was found and questioned in the first book and he felt something for her, which is weird for him because this particular vampire isn't crazy about humans. But he goes to her when he fears she's in danger because he wants her to come back to New Orleans with him until the danger is over. Right from the beginning there's danger and a mysterious vampire who seems to want her to find something that she doesn't have. But there are people who are willing to kill for this mysterious object that she needs to find and that puts both her and Luca in danger.

This story had kind of a treasure hunt type of feel to it because essentially that's what they were doing. Finding clues that lead to another clue while trying to find a dangerous object before someone else finds it. But while they're looking for it, they fall for each other big time which was fun because Luca started out not liking or trusting humans at all.

You can expect this book to have a lot of action and a lot of sexy times with these two. They are seriously hot together and can't seem to keep their hands off each other. Not that I'm complaining at all. I like how on the last page you see where the next book is going but there are no cliffhangers with this book as the main storyline is closed and nothing is left open.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life! #9

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.

This week I thought I'd share another video I took of one of my annoying neighbors. While I don't take a lot of video's, I have taken a couple and I had to get this one.

This guy did this every morning at 3am and again in the middle of the day when he got home. That window is someone's bedroom window and he didn't care. He would start and ride his loud motorcycle in the courtyard and into his apartment. He kept his motorcycle in his apartment because we live in a bad neighborhood and he didn't trust it to be in the alley over night. But doing this was just rude as hell. Thankfully he moved out.

Well that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Freebie Friday!

Welcome to another edition of Freebie Friday, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a 'Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.

A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.

You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.

This week I received a $25 Macy's e-gift card from e-Rewards. It took me 6 months of surveys to get enough points to cash out for this gift card but I'm happy because...

Free Makeup!

I was able to get 2 eye shadow palettes and a tube of concealer and it was all free. Anyone who wears makeup knows this stuff can get expensive. So I'm happy. Macy's was having a huge sale on a lot of things right after Christmas so this came at the right time.

I also received a coupon for a free bottle of Seventh Generation Dish Soap.

Did you receive any freebies this week?

Review: Kade's Dark Embrace by Kym Grosso

Book Description

An erotic paranormal romance...

After a series of girls are ritualistically murdered on the cold streets of Philadelphia, seasoned detective, Sydney Willows, is forced to work with sexy, alpha vampire, Kade Issacson. While working the case, Sydney finds herself inexplicably drawn to Kade, fighting the passion she feels towards him. Kade, determined to solve the case and mete out justice, is captivated by the independent, fiery detective. As he attempts to protect her from a very real murderer, Kade grows concerned that the beautiful, but very human detective, could easily end up dead should she tangle with supernatural forces that are beyond her control.

The investigation leads them into a dark and dangerous world, deep in the heart of New Orleans, where together, they search for the perpetrators of the Voodoo killings. Sydney soon becomes the target of the killer and ends up fighting for her life and love in the Big Easy. If she makes it out alive, will she give into the intoxicating desire she feels for Kade?

My Review

There's nothing I like more than a hot vampire romance and this started out so good, which is why I'm glad I grabbed this book when I saw it was free on Amazon. Right from the very beginning Kade seems like the hot alpha vampire that would make even the coldest ice queen melt in a puddle at his feet.

Kade let the human police think he works for P-CAP (Paranormal City Alternative Police) and as luck would have it Sydney is a human police detective. Right before they had both been called in about a dead body they had both been in the same area when Kade got a look at her, not knowing who she was and almost took a bite out of her, or a small taste I should say. I really don't think that would have ended well for Kade. Sydney is no pushover and knows all about the paranormals, including the vampires.

They start off really rocky and argue who is lead on the investigation but after a day or so they start working together, all the while fighting the attraction they feel for one another. Lusting after each other during a murder investigation is just not right and they both know it.

I really liked the chemistry between these two and the secondary characters were just as interesting as the main characters. I'm really looking forward to reading some of their books and getting to know more about them.

The murder aspect brought in another dimension to this story because we get a little info about Kade's past and we see how much he comes to care for Sydney, which was really sweet. The danger that they face from the villain is really exciting because the things the villain is doing to the murder victims is down right awful. But it made it really necessary to find out who was doing it and stop them.

This was the first book in this series and I really liked it. If this book is any indication as to what the rest of the books will be like, then I'm really looking forward to reading more from this series. I started reading this right after breakfast and I could not put it down. It hooked me and kept me hooked even after the end because I knew there was a continuation to the story. It didn't end in a cliffhanger because the main storyline was resolved with no holes left open but the last page did show how the next book would continue with a new storyline. And now I'm off to buy book #2 because I need to know what happened.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Favorite Picture of the Week

I've said before that living in the desert is strange from where I grew up in California because there aren't as many tree's, grass or foliage as there was in California when I was little. But we do have an interesting landscape for sure. These 3 pictures were taken out at Red Rock Las Vegas. And as you can see some of those rocks and mountains out there are red.

It's a desert landscape so if you visit there you aren't going to see a lot of big tree's like you'd see in the mountains but there are some small bushes and cactus.

Because it gets so hot here in the summer 117F I never liked going hiking in the summer but it's nice to pick a trail in the fall or Winter months and take a hike.

Review: The Loneliest Alpha by T.A. Grey

Book Description

One look will change their lives forever

Lingerie designer Alicia Clarkson just had to open her stupid mouth. After defending a fellow pack mate, Alicia's been blindfolded, tied up, and carted off to the scarred cowboy alpha of the Oregon pack--Gavin MacKellen. However, the blindfold doesn't come off as Gavin reveals he's searching for a mate and he wants to keep his face hidden. Just what happened to the mysterious alpha? He talks to her from shadowy corners and behind closed doors, but when they're near an explosive magnetism draws them together. Alicia and Gavin settle on an agreement--thirty days for them to get to know each other. But Gavin knows no good woman would ever want to look at his face after the incident he suffered. One look at Alicia sends all his plans out the window. The woman's beauty has stunned him speechless. Will she be the one to stand in the face of a monster and accept him for what he is?

The MacKellen Alphas series is a suspenseful erotic thriller that will keep you reading late into the night. With rich environments and captivating characters, The Loneliest Alpha will draw you in and never let you go. With nearly a million books downloaded, it's easy to see why T. A. Grey's romances are books to get lost in.

Buy The Loneliest Alpha to watch "a cowboy beast" get tamed by "beauty." ."

My Review

A couple of weeks ago another blogger listed books that were on sale and this one was a freebie at that time. I read the blurb and knew I had to have it so I snagged it and I'm glad that I did. It ended up being a really good read.

Gavin is the new leader of his pack and he's badly scarred so he doesn't think a mate would want him if he meets her face to face right away. So women are gathered up against their will from packs across the country and sent to meet the new alpha. This really felt like a retelling of Beauty and the Beast to me and I liked it. I did not however like the way the women are essentially kidnapped and taken to the new alpha so he can find a mate. That really pissed me off but I liked how he handled it and I understood why he felt the need to do it that way.

Alicia and another woman are picked from their pack to take to Gavin but the ones he doesn't like are going to be sent back to their packs. So Alicia just has to make sure she isn't the one that's picked. I really didn't like the way her pack treated her and the other girl that was picked to go. Their pack doesn't seem too nice at all.

Gavin's species didn't shape shift but they did have some abilities like being stronger than humans and living a long time. So Gavin asked Alicia to stay so they could get to know one another but he kept to the shadows and kept the rooms dark so she wouldn't see his scarred face. All the while they are getting to know one another there's some bad things happening in his pack and the story line that follows as they try and determine who is causing all the problems. This just adds to the story in my opinion.

They really were good together especially after he got over his fear that the scars on his face was going to scare her away. It ended up being a really good story. One of those stores that you can't put down and you have to read all the way through once you start.

I give this 4 out of 5 stars.

This week I thought I'd share a video I took of my neighbors. I don't take many videos of these crazy people because...they're crazy and I don't want that anger turned towards me. I even filmed this craziness through my screen door so they wouldn't see me doing it. You'll see why. Some of you that have been reading my blog for a while might remember this one.

Thankfully those people have since moved out.

Oh and one of the kids was back to standing in front of my screen door this week. lol

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Apartment Life! #7

This week I thought I'd share what could happen when you try to help a neighbor.

A few years ago I saw and heard the couple directly across from me were fighting and the guy was hitting his pregnant girlfriend and she was yelling for help, so I called the police.

The police came out, saw her bruises and talked to Ken and I and asked if we'd sign voluntary statements, we did. I didn't realize at the time when you do that, they can then subpoena you as a witness, which they did. He was arrested and said he didn't do anything so there was a trial in which we were called to testify. This guys father who was a security guard somewhere came to our apartment a week before we were to testify and said he was a cop and told us that we didn't have to testify even though we were subpoenaed if we didn't want to. He essentially lied about being a cop and tried to get us not to testify. We could have brought charges against him for intimidation but after his son got a 3 month jail sentence we decided not to pursue it.

That was also the last time we have gotten involved in anything with the neighbors around here.

You aren't allowed to take pictures inside the courtroom of course but I took this picture of the front of the courthouse.

And pictures of the signs that were on the wall next to the doors to the courtroom we were in that day. It took 6 hours sitting in the court room for our case to be called and for the trial to be over. I've never testified in court before so it was an interesting experience. But it was all for nothing since 3 months later he was right back in the apartment with the girlfriend.  They moved out soon after.

So last week was interesting...

The maintenance man told us last week that he was called by the big boss of the company and was told to go into the office and screw shut the door that leads into the manager's apartment so she can't get into the office from her apartment anymore. The last time that happened the manager had been fired and had 30 days to move out.

No one was in the office at all last week so it sure looks like our apartment manager was fired. LOL

We had a couple of people tell us that 2 nights prior to the maintenance man being called to screw the door shut,  the manager was in the office courtyard in front of her apartment and she was yelling and screaming at someone. There was a big argument and no one has seen her since.

I've actually lost count but in the 20 years we've been here I think we've gone through 11 apartment managers.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Target Beauty Box -December

This month's box was only $7 but I can tell you from experience that if bought separately, this would have been quite a bit more. Not a bad value. Each month Target releases a new Target Beauty Box but supplies are limited and it's first come first serve until they run out. These boxes go fast so I try to grab one as soon as I see it being talked about on Twitter or fb. I let you guys know on my blog when this one was released earlier this month so I hope some of you were able to get it.

What was in this month's box?

Hask Coconut Oil Deep Conditioner- 1.75 oz.
Hydrates and protects hair with rich monoi oil, Tahitian gardenias & coconut oil.

Rimmel London Shake It Fresh Mascara- Full size
Special formula and tube designed to keep mascara fresh for ultra-smooth, voluminous lashes from first to last use.

imPRESS Press-on manicure- 1 set
Breakthrough press-on nails for a beautiful, glossy gel-finish manicure in minutes.

Nexxus Comb Thru Finishing Mist- 1.5 oz.
Micro-fine mist gives hair an effortless, long-lasting hold with fullness & shine.

Vera Wang Embrace Fragrance- 0.04 oz.
Dreamy notes of mango, melon & cardamom, marigold & gardenia, sandalwood & soft musk.

My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Mask- 10 ct.
Helps repair complexion with Tahitian black pearl essence, lemon extract, red algae & yeast proteins.

Chapstick Red Lip Tint- Full size
This Target-exclusive tint instantly moisturizes and enhances natural lip color.

That mascara made this box worth it for me because I priced it on several sites and it goes anywhere from $7 to $12 all by itself and I love it. So this box was well worth the value.

I tried the hair and face mask and I liked both of them. The perfume sample smells so good but every sample of Vera Wang I've had has smelled really good. I had one of those chapstick's in Blood Orange scent but it wasn't tinted so I really like that I have a tinted one now. The only thing I haven't tried are the fake nails. But that's because I'm not sure they will work with my thumbs. When I was a kid I had a car door slammed on both of my thumbs and my nails fell off and never grew back right. I have huge bumps in them so I'll probably end up giving those to my daughter.

Were you able to snag one of these boxes?

My Review

So first off let me apologize for the photo of my hair I'm about to share below. I asked my husband for help taking a couple of pictures and he took about 10 of them for me but each one was worst than the last one. I asked him to make sure my hair was all together and straight and I even gave him my brush to use. It's hard to get it all down straight when it's long if you're wanting a good picture of it so I asked him for help. After looking at the pictures this was the best one. My hair isn't all brushed down the way I wanted but it's the best of the bunch and you get the idea. lol

As you can see, I have long hair. It's not as thick as it used to be and it's fine so it's prone to being static ridden and fly away especially after I brush it. I've used a lot of different leave in conditioners to try and cut down on the static and fly aways but not all of them work well. I got a sample of It's A 10 Miracle Leave in Product in the mail and have used it for 5 days in a row. I've been putting it in my damp hair after shampooing it. I didn't use a rinse out conditioner while I've been using this and I didn't need to. I just spray a little in my damp hair and work it through the length with my fingers and let it air dry.

My hair feel silky, it's shiny, easy to brush and best of all there are less tangles and it's easy to brush out. I don't need an extra conditioner when I use this and I don't have to use another product to get rid of the static in my hair because when I use this, there's no static and no fly aways. It also keeps my hair from frizzing up.

I would definitely recommend this product especially if you have thin hair.

Disclaimer: I received a free sample in the mail but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Apartment Life! #6

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that happen in and around my apartment complex here in a weekly blog post.

A few weeks ago I talked about fire so this week I thought I'd talk about water. Water and fire are both very destructible when you live in an apartment.

This is my courtyard after one of the flash floods we had. We live in Las Vegas and from July through September is flash flood season. Any thunderstorm can produce a flash flood if it produces enough rain. We don't get a lot of rain each year but if it comes down really fast our clay soil doesn't allow the rain to soak through so it ends up on the surface and just ends up getting deep until it slowly seeps into the ground.

Our courtyard floods during the downpours and it can get deep. This time it was all the way up on the walk ways and started to get into the apartment but thankfully the rain stopped and the water slowly went away. But this happens every year and if the gutters aren't cleaned, the water stays on the over hangs and once they got soaked and actually started to fall down. It's dangerous if the roofs, overhangs and gutters aren't maintained the way they're supposed to be.

That's all for this week's Apartment hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Craft: Scented Water Beads

I heard about Water Beads on FB last month and since I'd never heard of them and had no idea what they were, I looked them up. I found a few articles that said you could make things with them including gel air fresheners and that sounded really interesting to me. So I bought the stuff and did it.

You'll need a packet of Water Beads. I found this at Amazon and it was just under $7 for 20,000 beads.
A glass jar.
3 cups of water.
Essential Oil. I bought a jar of Cinnamon Essential oil for this.

I added 1 tsp. of water beads to the jar. Then added 20 drops of Cinnamon Essential oil and 3 cups of water. They had grown this much after just 2 hours.

After 6 hours I drained off the remaining water and this is what they looked like and they smelled so good!

I love the colors and they feel so neat to play with. After the first bowl of them was such a great success, I made a 2nd container of water beads with some Christmas Garland Essential Oil that I had and that smelled so good too.

I found that this works best in small rooms like a bathroom or bedroom and I had to stir the beads ever other day and add 1-2 more drops of the essential oil in order to get more scent. The scent doesn't last long though. If you don't stir the beads and add more essential oil every other day there's no scent that you can smell unless your face is right over the bowl of beads. I'm actually really surprised this doesn't work well because there are so many articles, videos and posts about it but for me it's a fail. You're better off buying one of those .99 Renuzit air fresheners. lol

I plan on making another big bowl of these beads with no scent so the scent doesn't get all over my hands when I play with them. lol They are quite fun to play with and handle and I love how they feel when I squish them in my hand. If you've never seen these before and like doing crafts, you might like this one. It was easy, fun and there are other things to do with them like make pretty colored beads filled glass jars.

Review: DegustaBox- December

DegustaBox is a monthly subscription box filled with food and drink products. The price for the box is $19.99 a month.

You do not get to pick any of the products you get, it's a surprise each month. But they say each box contains 10-15 items and each box is worth at least $30. I like trying boxes like this because they usually contain products that I've never tried or haven't seen before.

This month's box came with...

A bottle of Barilla Sun Dried Tomato and Basil Pesto Sauce
Barilla Ready Pasta
Mulino Bianco Breadsticks
Mulino Bianco Sandwich Cookies
 SuckerPunch Gourmet Garlic Spicy Pickles
Briannas Balsamic Viniagrette
Carrington Farms Quinoa
Good Thins Beet Chips- Balsamic Vinegar and sea salt flavor
Cauli Rice *Cauliflower Rice*

Most of the products in this months box were new to me. I have had the breadsticks before and I do like them. I wasn't fond of the pickles because they were sweet pickles and I don't care for those. I also didn't care for that pasta that all you had to do was heat for 60 seconds. It wasn't as good as the pasta that you cook for a regular amount of time.

I have to say that the surprise for me were those beet chips. I liked those. My daughter liked those as well and the Cauli Rice was also good. I wasn't sure it would be but I liked it. Not sure I would have ever tried most of these products without this box but I'm glad I did. I've tried a few flavors of quinoa and I like it. If you flavor it well it's pretty good.
