A Small Rant

I was looking at some of the reviews on Amazon for a few of the books I had planned on buying but couldn't make up my mind which ones I was going to get. I knew I wanted to buy a Diana Palmer book, I just wasn't sure which one in my wish list I wanted to get, so I started reading reviews...big mistake.

Seems like there are some idiots out there in internet land. Diana Palmer happens to be one of my all time favorite authors. I have a huge stack of her books on my book shelves. But it seems that there are a few people out there that have bought more than one of her books, knows what kinds of stories she writes, doesn't like the recurring cowboy, virgin theme in most of her books and so they write bad reviews on her books.

My thoughts are if you know that an author writes a particular type of story and you know you don't like it, why do you keep going back to reading more of them just to write a bad review for them?

It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If you don't like the hairy chested cowboys who meet the shy virgins in small towns or most of the heroes are ex special forces military who are always on the look out for the bad guys to come and mess with them in their small town...why do you keep reading the books knowing full well that's what you are going to get?

I read these books because I know exactly what I'm in for when I buy them and I like that I can always count on the same sort of book when I'm in the mood for that genre.

  1. Argg that drives me crazy too! I've seen them rate later books in a series too when they hated book one or two so then every book from then on in the series gets a negative rating/review even if they haven't read them just because they didn't like the first book. Really? Gah!

Her books sound really good to me! Gonna have to try her out one day :)

  2. I swear I think some people write negative reviews on things just to vent their own frustrations with life.

  3. Yeah I know people post bad reviews on books they haven't even read yet, which makes no sense at all.

  4. I have no clue why people do that. If I chose to read something that I'm experimenting with the type then unless it's horribly written I won't say anything bad about it just because the subject matter isn't my cup of tea.
Now if it's a horribly written book that should never have gotten published ... that's fair game.

  6. You should read some of the reviews at Goodreads. Some of those are harsh! I have a couple of 1 star reviews at Amazon. They make me smile. There's no pleasing some readers.

  7. I don't do much on goodreads because some of the readers on that site are so harsh it's just not right. I think sometimes people think because they are behind the computer screen they can just say or do anything they want. I realize you can please everyone but there's no need to be a jerk about voicing your opinions either.
