Apartment Life #261

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 23 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 23 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Wednesday night at 1am. I was woke up to flashing lights outside my bedroom window and looked out and saw an ambulance out there. It's not a great picture but I think you can make out the back of the ambulance. No idea what happened.

I saw my neighbors bedroom window screen bent and asked her what happened. She said someone tried to break into her window but her dog started barking and he ran away. She said it's a good thing because she sleeps with a gun under her pillow and if someone breaks in she's gonna shoot them. She said the screen had looked worst before her daughter straightened it out a bit. She has window locks on her window so unless they smash the window, no one is getting in. I have window locks on all my windows as well.

It was a fairly quiet week.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

The high this week was 115F/46C

    1. Yeah, considering some of the other things that have been happening around here lately.

  2. Having a dog is a good idea in an environment like that. I've heard that most burglars will abandon a break-in attempt if they realize there's a dog in the place.

Of course, the gun is a good idea too.

    1. Yeah, a gun is a good idea. Falcor barks at everything so I will know if something weird if going on.

  5. OMG - that's so horrible about your neighborhood, and thankfully she's okay. Hugs, RO

  6. Hi, Mary!

I'm relieved to learn that you have window locks on your apartment. Long gone are the days when people in any city could feel safe leaving a window open at night for fresh air and a better night's sleep.

Fortunately no one was hurt in your vicinity this past week, although its unsettling to know that someone could have gotten shot trying to bust into your neighbor's bedroom. I agree that having a dog in the house is a deterrent to crime. Does Falcor bark if he hears a strange noise, or is he the kind of pooch who would wag his tail and lick an intruder's hand?

Have a great week, dear friend Mary!

    1. In the Winter time I have the window open about 5 inches. Ken drilled holes in the metal frame where the window locks go so they can't be pushed open more. I might share a picture of that next week. Falcor is half chihuahua so he barks at everything.

  7. Wow, pretty tame I'd say. I guess that's a good thing, huh? Funny thought- I just woke up and realized I'd left one of the kitchen windows open last night. I usually lock everything at the end of each night, even though I probably don't have to. We live out in the sticks in hill country where absolutely nothing ever happens. Now watch something happen just because I said that...

  8. Hope Falcor barks up a storm if that ever happens to you.

  9. Oh, so you cannot sleep with open windows in your hood? How horrible in the summer. You should put a mine field under your window.

  11. Ambulance and attempted break in being described as "fairly quiet week", LOL. I put burglar bars on my sliding patio window and front door at night.

  17. We have window locks on all our windows as well, but thankfully nobody's ever tried to break in (as far as we know).

Sad when someone can only feel safe with a gun under their pillow.

  18. Wow not cool about the attempted break in. Yay for her dog! Glad you have window locks too, considering how wild your area gets.

    Be safe!

  19. It's good that her dog barked. Usually dogs are good about noises, they bark a lot. I'm sure Falcor knows the protocol. Stay safe!

  20. I am glad the burglar didn't get in your neighbor's apartment. And I am glad you have locks on your window too--and thank goodness for barking dogs!

    Have a great week!

    1. Yes, the dogs barking around here are helping keep the burglars from getting in.

  21. Good thing to have a dog! These burglars are really stupid to think that they wouldn't encounter armed residents.

  22. So glad your neighbor's dog frightened the burglar away!
