This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
My daughter was outside and she spotted a car crash. Here's the video she took of it.
The police showed up and were making sure everyone was ok.
But it sure looks like the cars are totaled.
There were two cars, this red one and the black one in the video. Looked like both people were fine though.

If you follow me on FB or Twitter (@scarymary66) you might have seen me mention the new lady and her kids that just moved in. She had 2 small kids older is maybe 7 while the younger is probably 4. Well, she's made quite the impression on everyone around here. Her youngest has been seen outside several times in nothing but his underwear. The kids run around unsupervised all the time. The youngest almost got hit by a car last week when he ran into the street and a car had to slam the brakes to stop from hitting him. No supervision at all. And the kids are loud, screaming while running around. Open door and window season is just around the corner so this should be fun. Maybe the kids won't be outside so much when it gets cold. People tend to stay inside when it's cold around here.
Last week I noticed that she had two large packages delivered and left outside her door while she wasn't home. Most people around here know better and she found out why. Later that day I noticed the packages were gone while I was walking the dog. I walked around the corner and saw the boxes hidden by one of the bushes. They had been opened and the empty boxes left by the bushes. The lady got home a little while later. So I'm guessing that one of the local homeless or druggies saw the boxes and took the and stole whatever was inside. I wasn't about to take her boxes and save them for her. People get accused to stealing for doing things like that. Plus it's a lesson about the kind of neighborhood she just moved into. Most people ask a neighbor to keep a lookout for packages and bring them inside if they aren't going to be home because of just this kind of thing.

ReplyDeleteBut UPS, USPS, and FedEx always leave the packages by the door unless you ask for a signature then they will leave a note telling you that they will come back tomorrow.
DeleteMaybe she had just ordered a pair of empty packing boxes to ship her annoying kids away somewhere.....?

DeleteThe delivery driver shouldn't have left the packages outside if nobody was in, they should have made an arrangement for redelivery. Obviously the packages could go missing. There are regular complaints in our media about packages left on doorsteps or even in wheelie bins!
ReplyDeleteBut that's what routinely happens, at least with UPS. Where I live, I constantly see parcels left outside people's front doors. It's why I don't do business with any company that doesn't offer Postal Service shipping as an option, so I can get things sent to my PO box.

DeleteI'll be home with my door open and they'll just drop the box by my door and not even knock.
I am glad that no one was hurt that (expensive) accident.
ReplyDeleteSigh at the parcels. She has learnt (hopefully) for next time. And hopefully will supervise her children too.
I sure hope so. I don't want another time like a few years ago when kids were standing in front of my door barking at me dog.

ReplyDeleteA car crash is practically the only type of calamity your block hasn't experienced until now. I'm glad no one was hurt. I was waiting for your daughter's cam to catch a fistfight breaking out between the motorists.
Man, that's tough about your new neighbor having large packages stolen from her doorstep soon after moving in. I hope for her sake it is a lesson learned. Just what your neighborhood needed - a couple of screaming rugrats added to the mix, running around the sidewalk and street every day. I hope you are right about them going into hibernation when the weather turns cold. Speaking of which, with the temp plunging to 100 this week, it's time to get the woolens out of the mothballs.

You're right. A car crash is probably the only thing that I haven't seen around herein a long time.
DeleteYou could offer to get her packages, but if she doesn't care what her kids do, then no way.

DeleteWow, that's too bad about the stolen boxes. The other day Walmart had delivered the wrong order twice to my neighbor and and she got like $100 worth of groceries for free because they wouldn't take them back.
ReplyDeleteWow, but it doesn't surprise me. I've had stuff from Walmart be delivered to the wrong address before too.

DeleteUnsupervised young ins, a fresh hell for you to worry about. I hear you about good deeds being misconstrued. I've seen packages pile up at one of the downstairs neighbors' door and she not home for hours, days. Nice friendly woman, but I don't dare get involved for fear my good deed going bad.

DeleteGood grief on those kids. In our old neighborhood, we had a huge Mormon family who let their kids walk around in bare feet and underwear. Nobody was ever watching them. My husband saved the youngest one’s life once when he rode his big wheel out in front of a car.

DeleteThat was some car crash! Packages aren't safe anywhere. We have a friend who lives in an apartment building and all packages are delivered inside to a central mail room. They're even stolen there. Yikes on the kids, sadly they might not make it long.
ReplyDeletePart of the central mail box here had to be replaced because people were breaking into it. So that doesn't surprise me either.
DeleteOh my those new neighbor kids- they'll fit right in with all the yahoos. Is it awful of me to say that? Seriously though I hope they calm down but mostly that their mom watches them! Yikes...

DeleteI have one neighbor who shoves her kids out the door every morning, but they're a little older and at least they are in school some of the time. 🙄 They ruin everyone's weekend mornings yelling and screeching and setting all the neighborhood dogs to barking. 😛 They are out alone until after dark most of the time. 😔
