Apartment Life #277

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Halloween night around 11PM, I start to go to sleep and some woman starts crying really loudly across the street. I look outside and see some guy booking it down the street like the hounds of hell are on his tail. I doubt the two people had anything to do with each other, but you never know. I hear crying and yelling and stay awake because I had a feeling the police were going to show up and I was right. Got the picture of the police car and went to sleep. lol I didn't hear anything more and I have my window open at night now because the temps are nice so I would have heard more commotion if there was any.

-----

My daughter was at the end of the street playing Pokemon Go and sitting on one of those metal benches that I've shown you. Here's a post with the metal benches and tree's if you haven't seen them before. A guy walked past her on the sidewalk pushing his motor scooter and the police who must have been parked around the corner, pulled up right in front of where she was sitting and stopped the guy. He hadn't done anything but they made him open his backpack and searched it and his motor scooter he was pushing. She heard the police say that they pulled him over because you can't ride a motorized bike on the sidewalk but he never had it turned on, which is why he was pushing it. The the police pulled out a picture of a guy and asked this man if he knew him, my daughter said he told them he didn't.

After a few minutes of searching him, his bike and backpack and running his ID, I guess they didn't find anything and let him go. But I'm stumped, why did they stop him in the first place? My daughter sat there and listened and took a picture for me and even she was trying to figure out why he was stopped. Sure it's a bad neighborhood but the police shouldn't be stopping people for no good reason.

The high this week was 77F/25C
The low this week was 51F/10C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. I wonder why they stopped him too - and what they thought they had achieved...

  2. Hi, Mary!

Seems like the cops lacked probable cause to detain and question that scooter guy and go through his belongings. All I can think of is that perhaps the guy had indeed been riding the scooter down the sidewalk in another part of the neighborhood, somebody called the cops to complain about it and they didn't locate him until he arrived at the green benches where your daughter was seated.

Seems like chances are good there's a connection between the wailing woman and the guy fleeing the scene. Maybe he snatched her purse.

77 to 51 is a pretty reasonable temp rage considering how awful is was during the summer. Have a safe and happy week, dear friend Mary!

  3. And the police wonder why they have reputation problems? You’d think Las Vegas police would have better things to do with their time.

  4. They were either profiling him or he was a person of interest in connection with the guy they asked him about.

  5. The police must have stopped the only innocent in the neighbourhood LOL (either than your family of course).

    1. Seriously though, there are some nice families living around here that only stay here because the rent had been cheap. Had been because it's not anymore. lol

  6. Cute that she's playing Pokemon Go, I haven't heard of that game in a minute. It's all imposter and roblox for me.

  7. Cops make up the lawful reason as they go along. At least they didn't put a beatdown on him or kill him. What level is your daughter on? I'm level 34 and don't play as much now that the game wants to import our contact data.

    1. She's on level 31.

My daughter said she stayed there to record it just in case the police did something stupid like that.

  8. Police are sometimes confused, and act strangely. No wonder, with all the happenings they've got on their head, daily.

    1. They shouldn't be confused though. They have a job to do, sure but to be stopping people for no reason is beyond idiotic.

  9. Maybe they stopped him because they can which is not a good reason at alll.

  11. We had a wild Halloween, as usual, on our block, but we weren't here. They have big time parties on our block for just about everything.
Our ring camera kept going off. We finally had to shut the lights off remotely. We forgot people would be coming to our door. Sounds like you've been having some nice weather. I'm so happy it's cooled down here, too.

  12. You never know with cops, you gotta be careful. Your daughter being there filming might have saved that guy even more hassle...

I'm glad Halloween wasn't too crazy there!!!

  13. I agree, you can't help but wonder why they stopped that dude.

  14. Its hard to figure out why the police do these searches. There might be something else going on, they do tend to have more information than we do so I like to give them the benefit of the doubt.

At least you can say your life is never boring haha

  15. I think the police just stop and search people if they're feeling bored and want a bit of action. And if it's the same as in the UK, black people are much more likely to be picked on.

    1. Sometimes I think they might just do it for that reason.

  16. Stopping people is what they do.

    1. That is true. Whether they have a reason to stop someone is another matter.

  17. 11:00 pm is not a late-night time. Sometimes same event or events happens here at 02:00 am or 03:00 am etc. And we dont sleep well. Hope you got a good sleep that night Dear friend.

  22. Even if there is something always going on around there, no need to stop and harass someone for no good reason!

  23. He may have fit a description given for something else and decided to check him out while they were there. Of course they had to make up a reason for stopping him after they found out he wasn't who they were looking for. They should have just ran his ID and not searched him, though. 😐
