Apartment Life #353
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 26 years here in a weekly blog post.
I know it's hard to see but this homeless man who is standing between the fire and the dumpster started this fire in the alley across the street. He was burning a bunch of loose cardboard, trash and papers on the ground. People from across the street called the fire department and the police. The homeless man dipped out before the police got there and told everyone to go back in their apartments. That's why I don't have any pictures of the fire trucks in the alley behind the apartment complex putting the fire out.
That's dangerous having fire on the ground like that so close to the cars and apartments.
My daughter sent this picture to me while she was at work. She said she was sitting outside her work for her 15 minute break and this guy walked over to her and told her she was beautiful. He then went to his car and came back with 2 lemons, gave them to her and told her these were for her being beautiful. lol She took them back into work with her and took a picture of them. She said she got free lemons for being beautiful. lol

On Tuesday around 10AM I had my earbuds in listening to music and thought I heard 3 gunshots but wasn't sure. I'm always watching the cameras so I saw when 8 police cars pulled up on my street just a few minutes later. I went for a walk with Falcor to get a picture of all the police cars.
Then the police helicopter was up flying up over the apartment complex across the street where the police were. I saw 3 different guys get taken out in handcuffs and they were taken away in police cars. But the police helicopter kept flying overhead for quite some time so I'm guessing someone got away.
The ambulance showed up a few minutes later.
One person was taken out on a gurney and taken to the ER. The police left a little while later and so did the police helicopter so I guess they might have found the other person they were looking for. Not sure exactly what happened.
The high this week was 60F/15C
The low this week was 27F/-2C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

I hope the gunshot victim is ok - and that the homeless guy doesn't light more fires.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping the same thing.
DeleteFires and Shootings, a busy Week indeed! Our Neighbor next door had a Fire at their House Today, they sent 4 Fire Trucks and the Police and thankfully put it out... no idea the cause and I hope everyone was Okay. Until I see my Neighbor I won't know what happened, but, it was scary, huge black plumes of smoke billowing and it started quickly and had Two explosions!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's scary. I hate fires. Hope they are alright.
DeleteThe fire doesn't sound too good.
ReplyDeleteI hope those lemons have more juice in them than the couple I purchased the other day, but how nice of that man to give them to your daughter for being beautiful, love that.
Thank you. She said they were good lemons.
DeleteHi, Mary!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had another exciting week in the neighborhood, dear friend. At first glance, I thought you had a dumpster fire to contend with. It's a good thing the contents of the dumpster didn't ignite or the situation could have spiraled out of control. May I assume the homeless man started the fire in an effort to keep warm? I see the overnight low dropped to 27 at least one of those nights.
You know what they say: "When life hands you lemons..." In this case, a friendly man handed your daughter lemons for being beautiful. It's got to be the most original pick-up gimmick ever. :)
Then there was "Gunshot Tuesday," with a police car and helicopter response and someone removed from the scene on a gurney and taken to the ER. 10 am seems like an unusual time for gunfire to erupt. Apartment management should impose a rule that no shots may be fired in the complex before nightfall. :)
I'm happy to know that you, your daughter and my buddy Falcor are AOK. It was fun connecting with you again this month. I'll be back on Feb. 14 with a special post for V-Day and hope to see you then, dear friend Mary!
It was definitely an original pick up line for sure. Yes, I'm sure he was trying to stay warm but there has to be a better place for the fire. Sometimes the people will build a fire out in the rocks. They put together a make shift fire pit by moving big rocks into a circle and putting the fire inside it. No where near cars, apartments and garbage cans.
DeleteAnytime is a good time for gunshots I suppose.
I'll see you then.
Lemons for being beautiful is an amazing thing! I guess the homeless guy doesn’t have access to the news! Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteI loved the lemon pick up line, very original.
DeleteGoodness me, life is exciting where you live.
ReplyDeleteWhen life (or a random man) gives you lemons, make lemonade. 😀
Lemonade is good. lol It is exciting around here for sure.
DeleteWhen a strange man hands you lemons...
ReplyDeleteYep.
DeleteLemony goodness!
ReplyDeletelol
DeleteSo we're back to action and peril...I guess the poor man was just trying to stay warm, but that's seriously dangerous. Then the shootings...
ReplyDeleteThe thing with your daughter was bizarre. At least the man didn't try to chat her up...But that's a funny choice for a gift LOL. Oh, well, when life gives you lemons...🤣
It was an original pick up line for sure. Yes, it was an exciting week for sure.
DeleteFun story about the lemons.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked it as much as I did.
DeleteFree lemons for being beautiful, that's a new one! I wonder why the homeless guy started the fire? Probably for some obscure motive that the rest of us will never fathom.
ReplyDeleteProbably just to stay warm but there are better places do to it.
Delete"When 8 police cars pulled up on my street just a few minutes later. I went for a walk with Falcor to get a picture of all the police cars."
ReplyDeleteLOL
Gotta get these pictures. lol
DeleteLemons grow from flowers on lemon trees, so daughter was gifted flowers in a roundabout way. The guy must have found her extra beautiful to gift not one but two. Good going.
ReplyDeleteHa, that's true. I'm going to tell her that.
DeletePoor bastard was probably cold :(
ReplyDeleteYeah, I feel bad for him.
DeleteLemons for beauty. Sounds like a story book. :D
ReplyDeleteIt does.
DeleteWith so much negative talk how nice for someone to tell your daughter she is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI know, I thought it was nice too.
DeleteWhat a nice comment the guy had for your daughter and a gift of lemons.
ReplyDeleteToo many guns around, that scares me.
People are strange. I suppose the guy with the fire was cold, but there are safer ways to stay warm. I guess not for him. You've got so many interesting things going on around you.
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit wacky at your place this week. Hey, the lemons were a nice gift!
ReplyDeletePeople starting fires are so reckless! Haven't they learned anything from all the destruction in California? So dangerous! Glad it didn't come to anything. Lemons are a nice gift! I love citrus!
ReplyDeleteYikes about the gunshots and the fire. Hope the victim was okay. And that's a cute story about the lemons. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you've been well Mary.
65 seems hot. It been on cold side here.
ReplyDeleteThat dumpster fire is scary. Your apartment complex would be way too scary for me, even as it gives you lots of blogging material. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLemons... cute.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are safe despite the craziness all around you. Hopefully it will be calmer.
Oh my! Glad the fire didn't get out of control and that is crazy about the police helicopter and all the police. Hope things will be a bit quieter for you now. :)
