Weird Things Around My Apartment
*Click pictures to enlarge them*
So if you were to walk around my apartment there might be a few things that stand out as strange, nothing I'd classify as outlandish but maybe a bit weird. I never said I was normal...let's just get that out there, okay?
I bought this gnome wand made from clay about 15 years ago. I just thought it was so unique. It sits on my bookcase. I saw some Sculpey Clay and thought, I can do that! lol
And I made my own wand with some blue beads.
It was a lot harder to make something than I thought it would be.
I have a Dime Rat. It's called a Dime Rat because it's the size of a Dime. It was hard to get a good picture of her because she's so little. I won her in a FB contest years ago at Sculptures By Eve.
My daughter went to a store that had some interesting things and bought this. It's heavy, made of ceramic and made to look like that paper game we used to play when we were kids.
I thought it looked very interesting.
At that store my daughter also bought a Beaver's paw and a small alligator paw to add to her shelf. Not sure if it's the formaldehyde or whatever they used to preserve the paws, but they smell really bad if you get up close to them.
A friend of mine gave me some Monster Dollars years ago. I think they're cool.
I have two small comic books. This one Grimm's Ghost Stories is a fun one.
It has a copyright date of 1977. I've had it a long time.
I like to keep small things that are interesting.
I also have a small Twilight Zone comic book.
This also has a copyright date of 1977.
I used to watch the show all the time.
These Screaming Traders trading cards are from some horror movies. My favorite being Pet Sematary.
A couple of weeks ago my daughter went to a store called Cemetery Pulp and bought a couple more things. This is a banana spider in a vial of formaldehyde. That spider is big.
And this is a leach in a vial of formaldehyde.
So there ya go. There's some of the weird things you might find around my apartment.
Do you have anything in your home that would surprise someone?

Those are the sort of things that make a house a home.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteMonster Dollars are cool. So are those old comics.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteInteresting things you have there, Mary.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteMy grandkids think my Egyptian cat statue is weird!
ReplyDeleteKids think everything is weird. lol
DeleteThese are what I would call 'conversation starters.' All very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThe wand is actually very pretty. And I have to laugh at the comic books. I remember having so many when I was a child and yours from 1977 are probably worth a lot of money someday. I think these are some fun items and because I like animals and bugs I enjoy seeing these things.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked them.
DeleteYou have some fantastic treasures!! Love the dime rat :)
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThat truly is a collection of the weird and wonderful! My favourites are the wand you made with the blue beads (looks very elegant!) and the paper game sculpture with the tarot images on it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I appreciate that.
DeleteI love little knickknacks like this! Really adds personality to a space. Your dime mouse is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that.
DeleteLovely collection
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteNot weird perhaps but I have some small Wade figurines from Red Rose tea. I don't even know if Red Rose still puts these in their tea boxes. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThey sound interesting.
DeleteFun! I love your two wands. And those monster dollars are pretty funny. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI love how you embraced the challenge of making your own wand with blue beads, even if it was harder than expected! The Dime Rat is absolutely adorable too—it's amazing how such tiny treasures can hold so much meaning. By the way, I’ve just posted a new blog entry on my site and would love for you to check it out and share your thoughts. Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead.
ReplyDeleteI love the Dime Rat too. Thanks.
DeleteYou did a nice job with the clay!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteVery cool!
ReplyDeleteI remember that old paper cootie catcher game.
Sadly, I have no fun gothic items like those. I do have plaster cast paw indentations of my former cats I keep, a Petoskey stone (has fossils embedded in it), a party sombrero, a large postcard collection, and a Campbell's Soup doll.
Those sound like interesting items too.
DeleteEwww those paws are horrible, throw them away LOL
ReplyDeleteNooo lol
DeleteI like the cootie catcher with the Tarot cards on it. Does it move, or is it a sculpture?
ReplyDeleteIt's a sculpture.
DeleteWhat a great and unique collection of weird things. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThose were fun to see, except the spider. I thought I had some unusual things but I'm not even close LOL!
ReplyDeleteLOL Thank you.
DeleteVery unique treasures ~

ReplyDeleteMy favorite interesting thing is your dime rat, I love miniatures.
I hope you do, I would love to see others do this.
DeleteYour apartment sounds like a museum of curiosities!
ReplyDeleteFascinating post, Mary!
Ha! Thank you.
DeleteI like the ceramic that looks like the paper game.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteDefinitely interesting items! I think you did a fantastic job on the wand you made. Very creative. I can't believe the paper game piece is ceramic. It looks very cool. Thanks for sharing. I will keep an eye out around my house to see if I have anything out of the ordinary. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I hope you do and post some pictures.
DeleteThank you for sharing these interesting items.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
You're welcome.
