Saturday Vittles
My daughter and I are trying to eat healthier, so I am sharing some of the dishes that we are eating each week.
Tilapia, Green Beans and Salad
We like seafood and found that the pre-portioned frozen Tilapia is only 100 calories for a small fillet. So that's what we used for this dinner. My daughter used some tarter sauce with hers, my plate didn't have the tarter sauce on it. You don't realize how many calories that condiments have until you start counting calories. I used no-calorie cooking spray to cook the Tilapia with. Season your fish however you like. I used Old Bay, smoked paprika, McCormick Mesquite seasoning and lemon juice.
We cheated a little bit and used canned green beans because the store I went to didn't have fresh green beans but the can of green beans was only 20 calories for 1/2 cup. sounded good to me. Then we made salad to go with it. The salad had cucumbers, sliced mushrooms, avocado, and I used my fat free Ranch that only has 35 calories for 2 TBSP serving.
This dinner was 200 calories and 10 carbs.
Do you like avocado in your salad?

I don't like avocados. My favorite fish is Coho salmon, and when it shows up in the store, I buy a lot of it and then freeze it. Yum.
ReplyDeleteI can't eat fresh green beans. I never had them as a child, only canned. The fresh ones taste really weird to me and I just... can't.
Also, any kind of meat... chicken, fish, beef... my condiment of choice is ketchup. Which I *did* have a lot of as a child.
I like canned green beans but I make the fresh ones too and really like them. That is one thing that my mom cooked really well.
DeleteThat looks so good and only 200 cals wow! I love avocados and mushrooms :-D
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a really good meal. Tilapia is so low is calories.
DeleteHappy Valentines Day and I think this is a great meal. I like frozen or canned green beans better than fresh. I used to grow my own and liked them better after I canned them.
ReplyDeleteI like the canned ones too. Happy Valentine's Day to you
DeleteLooks good, except for the green beans. I have an aversion to them going back to my childhood! I often buy fish from Costco these days and the filets are individually wrapped. I am sure I have salmon, flounder, cod in the freezer.
ReplyDeleteMy mom made great fresh green beans. I love all kinds of vegetable snow that I know how to cook them but I like canned ones sometimes too. I have a bunch of different fish in the freezer right now too.
DeleteI love avocado but don't buy it now because my husband mustn't eat it. Your meal looks delicious.
ReplyDeletesorry to hear that.
DeleteI'm not a huge fan of avocado except in guacamole.
ReplyDeleteYes, I like that too.
DeleteSo glad you are continuing to eat healthy, it will become a lifestyle change hopefully.
ReplyDeleteOh absolutely.
DeleteThey say Tilapia is healthy for you and if prepared right delicious.
ReplyDeleteIt takes on any flavor that you put on it. I really like that.
DeleteLooks good to me, I like Tilapia!
ReplyDeleteThank you I do too.
DeleteSounds and look delicious. There is nothing wrong with canned string beans. I always rinse mine off to get as much salt of as I can. Happy Valentine's day to you too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea. Happy Valentine's Day to you
DeleteI love avocados, and would choose to have them on a salad any day.
ReplyDeleteOh me too.
DeleteI love avocados and try to have some most days. They’ve been 45 cents at Aldi!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter just went to Aldi. We are loving that store. One just opened up here.
DeleteThat really isn't a lot of callories.
ReplyDeleteNo, it's not. I try to keep my calories down to 1200 a day.
DeleteI love fish and avocados. Your meal sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThis is a great low calorie meal, especially if you stick to lemon and don't use tarter sauce (as you did). I like portioned fish, although I am more partial to flounder (for some reason, some tilapia tastes bitter to me). The fish cooks quickly, so I use a meat thermometer to measure internal temperature.
