Book Review: Eros by K. Cantrell
Book Description
Looking for Love on all the Wrong Planets Penelope Boswell needs a fake boyfriend to save her from her meddling family. But when the Intergalactic Dating Agency matches her with a sexy alien willing to play pretend in exchange for her help assimilating to Earth culture, she gets way more than she bargained for: Eros is seductive, pushy and has no intention of faking anything, least of all their relationship…
My Review
Penelope meets a matchmaker but doesn't realize until she decides to use her services to get her family off her back, that the matchmaker is making matches with aliens from other planets that need green cards. In order for Penelope to make this match work she will have to marry the alien she's been matched with so he can get a green card and she can help him blend in as a human until he learns better English and our customs.
But right from the start Eros (John Smith) just wants to make out and have sex which got on my nerves. I think he thought that Penelope would fall in love with him if they were intimate. But because he doesn't understand our culture, our language or how things really work here, he's like a child...who wants to have sexy times with Penelope.
It's hard to get to know a character when he can't communicate or understand well. I thought the premise was great but Eros was very one dimensional for most of the book which made it hard to really like him because I couldn't get to know him.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Dreams of Darkness by Eve Langlais
Book Description
Warning: This dark urban fantasy contains scenes of violence. Reader discretion is advised.
Waking with horrific injuries in a hospital, Adara can’t recall her past. Who is she? And more importantly what is she? Her only hints come during her nightmares.
Dark dreams that are forgotten when she wakes.
Having amnesia doesn’t stop danger from stalking her. She attracts the attention of a werewolf and a vampire. As events spiral out of control she wonders if she’s losing her mind.
Magic and supernatural beings can’t exist.
Her mind says ‘Forget.’
But she wants to remember. However, if she does, will the truth shatter her?
My Review
Adara wakes in the hospital after having sustained horrible injuries but she has amnesia and doesn't remember who she is or how she got hurt. The doctor puts her in the mental hospital and somehow messes with her mind and puts her on medication. After a while the doctor sets her up in a run down apartment and a job in a bad neighborhood. He makes her call him all the time to check in and he keeps track of her but it's not because he cares.
Logan is a werewolf and the head of his pack. He's out patrolling one night when he realizes a zombie is attacking someone in a store so he steps in and dispatches with the zombie. He's not sure whether to kill the human girl or not but once he gets close to her, all thoughts of killing her go out the door. He helps her and follows her home to make sure she's alright. But more zombies attack her so he brings her to his house.
Titus is a vampire and the cabal leader. He can hear Adara's cries for help when she's asleep and having horrific nightmares. He rushes to Logan's house only to find that Logan has somehow been pulled into Adara's nightmare, literally. Once she's awake and they realize that she's suffered horrible pain at the hands of others they decide to work together to find out who and what Adara is because she's not entirely human.
I liked the premise of the story but it was a little slow to begin and there isn't much to this story. I can see there's going to be a love triangle between these three but there's really no spark between them. Titus and Logan don't like each other and are fighting to win her in their own ways like she's some trophy to win.
And then this book ends in a cliffhanger. This book might tell us what happened to her and by whom but not really why. I didn't like how it ended and it didn't keep me engaged enough to read the next book.
I give this book 2 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #294
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
The police were across the street on Monday morning. They were walking up and down the street talking to people but I took this from my bedroom window so I wasn't outside for them to talk to me so I have no idea what they were asking people. They left after about an hour.
I took this picture about a month ago and didn't post anything about it because I wanted to see if maintenance was going to do anything about it. But of course they didn't and now it's been over a month. What you are seeing is raw sewage once again. If you've been around for a while you know we deal with a raw sewage problem at least a couple times a year. This is the clean out drain from the end of the apartment building across from me. Each building has one at each end of the building so when the plumbing gets backed up the plumber has a way to get his snake into the pipes.
The hole has a plug on it that tightens down with a screw type of thing. So it's supposed to stop the raw sewage from coming out the end and instead go down the pipes inside the walls like it's supposed to. But it looks like the water/sewage has eaten through the cap they put on this end and the water is coming out the end anyway. I've watched maintenance walk right by this mess several times and see it but they haven't done anything about it. I've emailed the office and gotten no response. I haven't said anything to the one maintenance guy I see around here most of the time, personally because he doesn't like me for some reason. I've said hi to him a few times and he just stares at me and I know he understands me because I've heard him speaking to other people.
I've also started spotting used needles again. The homeless traffic has gotten worse because there's a person across the street that is selling drugs from one of their windows. I'm going to try and get a video of people walking up to the window and knocking on it and exchanging money for something small (drugs). But I don't want them to see me filming them. You just never know who has a gun around here. But they are definitely dealing from their window across the street and that has brought a lot more druggies to my street.
----
My neighbor from last week who was watching porn was singing this week and saying rude, weird things really loudly. He did this for about an hour last Sunday.
The same guy who is singing in the video also left sushi in front of his door. He's also the guy who left the hotdogs in front of his door a few weeks ago. He lives two doors down from me, so I can hear him really clearly when he starts shouting.
I enlarged it so you could see it better. I don't know what is up with this guy, he might have mental problems. I can only hope he moves out soon.
The high this week was 81F/27C
The low this week was 39F/3C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Favorite Song of the Week
I like all kinds of music as I've told you before. But sometimes I really like a well played instrumental too. When malls and sidewalks have a public piano and someone who can really play starts playing and surprises people standing around watching, that's one of those things I love too. So here's one of those songs that I first found on TikTok. I think he might be a professional but it's one of the best piano covers I've seen. I hope you enjoy.

Book Review: The Dragon and the Singer (Made for Each Other: The Dragon Shifters Book 1) by Renee Carr
Book Description
A dragon king. An aspiring singer. A vicious murderer.
Nathan, the Dragon King, knows he bears great responsibilities, but none are as important as maintaining the peace between dragons and werewolves. Unfortunately for him, one dragon has gone rogue and, if not stopped soon, his murderous rampage will ignite a war.
Ivy dreams of finally making it big, but the most significant moment of the singer’s life may be the night she meets Nathan. Little does she know their mutual attraction will be the least complicated part of their courtship.
When she’s threatened by another dragon, Nathan is convinced it’s the murderer. Now, he has even more reason to root him out and stop the carnage once and for all.
Will the Dragon King prevent a war and also protect the woman he loves?
A sexy fated mates shifter story, set in another world, along with a mystery!
This is a standalone story with no cliffhanger!
My Review
Nathan lives on another planet but comes to Earth at times. Humans don't know about the aliens that visit here and his people want to keep it that way. Nathan is a dragon shifter and the king of his people after his brother who had been the king, died.
Ivy is a singer hoping to make it big one day but for now she plays gigs in places that pay her. Nathan meets Ivy and finds himself drawn to her so he asks her out and she agrees. They only go on a couple of dates before all hell breaks loose for both of them.
There's a rogue dragon shifter that has been killing werewolves and in order to stop a war between his people and the wolves, Nathan will have to figure out who the killer is. But before he can make any headway in that case, the killer targets Ivy and it's only her quick thinking that saves her from being killed as well.
I wasn't sure how Ivy was going to react when Nathan tells her what he is and where he's from but she takes it better than some might think. Poor Nathan has a lot of his plate with a killer on the loose, his sister in law being very sick and trying to look out for her as well as finding Ivy who might be his mate and trying to tell her who and what he is and what she means to him. It's a lot.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Draekon Conqueror: A SciFi Dragon Shifter Romance (Rebel Force Book 2) by Lili Zander and Lee Savino
Book Description
I’ve lived an eternity. I’ve killed thousands. Destroyed worlds.
I thought I’d seen everything. I didn’t think there was anything left in the galaxy that could surprise me.
Then I met her. Lani Dennison. A human woman. My mate.
My mission was simple. Find Lani Dennison.
Zorahan scientists tortured her. I killed them, of course.
Okaki pirates abducted her. I tracked them down and infiltrated their ship. Routine stuff. Nothing that presented a problem to a trained soldier that could shift into a fire-breathing dragon.
I expected her to be smart. You’d have to be, to survive the Okaki pirates.
I didn’t expect her to be lovely.
I didn’t expect her to make me laugh.
And I definitely didn’t expect her to be the one woman I was destined to be with, the missing piece of my soul.
My mate.
Now what?
My Review
Ruhan had been in stasis for 1000 years but once he woke up and is tasked with infiltrating a Zorahn ship to find two human females that have been kidnapped, he figures this will be an easy job. He's not expecting to find his mate though and when he finds Lani, he finds his mate.
Lani was kidnapped, and she keeps herself alive by giving the aliens something they want. She is smart and that's the only reason she's still alive. So when Ruhan says he's there to save her, she's not sure she can trust another alien but he gets her off the ship so that's one plus for him.
This is the second book in the series but the first book that I've read. I didn't really feel lost so you can read this as a standalone but I plan on going back and reading the first book since this one was very interesting and I want to get to know his brothers.
Ruhan was so much fun to get to know. I have a soft spot for shiters but an alien who is also a shifter? Sign me up. He was so great with Lani, since he knows that she's gone through a lot in the time she's been held captive he takes things really slow with her.
Lani was a very smart woman too. She gave her captors something that they wanted in order to stay alive, she told them stories. I love that about her, she's very witty and creative but also smart and strong. These two really made the best couple. When they run into danger, they realize how much they care for each other and that made the story even better.
I give this story 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Phantom Game by Christine Feehan
Book Description
wo predators collide with unbridled passion in this intoxicating GhostWalker novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.
Jonas “Smoke” Harper has watched his brothers find their perfect mates, never imagining he’d actually meet someone who complements every part of him—even the monster that lurks within. But his instant connection with Camellia goes far beyond wanting the intelligent, beautiful, and lethal woman in his bed. They are two parts of a whole, linked to each other and to a larger network that exists everywhere around them.
Camellia has lived on her own for a long time, relying on her unique psychic abilities to keep her safe. She knows that Jonas was literally made for her, and that makes their addictive connection more dangerous than a thousand enhanced super soldiers. Once the larger threat looming over them is dealt with she’s going to get far away as fast as she can. Life has taught her that the only one she can truly trust is herself.
Jonas can sense Camellia is going to run—and the hunter inside doesn’t want to let go. Not when he knows how good they’ll be together. So he’ll just have to use all of his considerable skills to convince her to stay....
My Review
The GhostWalkers were men who had volunteered to be enhanced psychically so they would be more use to their country. But Dr. Peter Whitney also performed experimental gene coding on them without their consent or knowledge. But because of his connections and the government who wanted his enhanced soldiers, he was untouchable and continues to experiment on people. Whitney had also experimented on girls and used in vitro to make designer babies he could experiment on. he ended up making enhanced females that were the other half of a pair to some of the enhanced men he had experimented on. The enhanced pheromones in the pair made them attracted to each other.
Jonas and two of the other members of his GhostWalker team had headed into the forest because one of them had a gut feeling something was off in that direction. But Jonas came across more than he could have imagined. An enhanced female who had escaped Whitney's experiments had run and camouflaged herself in the dense mountains. Only another GhostWalker or enhanced person who had very specific gifts would have been able to find her and Jonas ended up being one of those people.
Camellia had been hiding for a while and she knew that GhostWalkers and some of their wives had made their home in a building not far from her. But they had no idea she was there and she had no plans to make herself known to them. So when Jonas was able to find her house and came to talk to her, she wasn't wanting to have anything to do with him but she knew he wasn't going to leave until she did.
At first Camellia had thought that Whitney had sent the GhostWalker team to find her and bring her back to the labs and she didn't trust anything Jonas said. But then they both realized they were a bonded pair and that attraction made her want to talk with him. They could both hear lies so while neither of them trusted the other at first, after talking a little and hearing no lies, they sat down and talked a bit more. Jonas had thought the feeling that he and his team were feeling might have been Camellia but she felt the dangerous threat as well so they knew it wasn't her.
When she, Jonas and his team realize there are other men on the mountain, they go scout to see who they are. They quickly realize that these men are the reason they all have been having bad feelings about a dangerous threat. She helps Jonas and his team find out who they are and why they are there and it's bad news, really bad news. More teams of soldiers are on the way to attack the building where Jonas and his team and families are living. When they find out why the teams of soldiers are sent they think they have it all figured out but secrets are revealed, feelings are hurt and the team realizes they've been betrayed by someone close to them. But then there's a pretty good twist and more questions are raised. All the while Camellia is getting to know Jonas better and they are falling for each other. She is much more than she seems and is able to help out Jonas and his team during the attacks that happen. The action in this book was great.
I've really been loving liking this series but this was definitely one of the best books in the series so far.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A couple of police cars were across the street this week. I don't know what they went across the street for but they didn't stay long.
The apartments across the street have had a lot of police activity in recent weeks.
We bought a new couch on Wednesday. My old one was 12 years old and was falling apart. This is so much nicer and more comfortable.
Funny enough, the people who live 2 apartments down and across from me were moving a couch in their living room and accidentally bumped into the wall with it and that's all it took to break the living room window. Maintenance put up a board until they can fix the window. It's $80 for every window they have to replace so that's an expensive accident.

Warning... Porn video sounds. You have to turn the sound up if you want to hear it.
My door slamming neighbor who likes to point his speaker out the door and listen to music was watching porn on Friday and he had his door open. He kept playing the same few minutes over and over and turned it even louder at some parts.
I posted a short video of what I was hearing, over on Twitter but I posted it here as well in case we aren't friends on Twitter.
I'm @scarymary66 on Twitter.

Book Review: Best Laid Stones by Kelly Apple
Book Description
Heading into the wilds of Vane’s childhood home sounds all fine and dandy, but Cin has a few reservations. Not about Vane’s plan to visit his old nest, but about Cin being able to properly navigate her way there while her mate and new gargoyle brother are in their daylight sleep.
But things happen for a reason and an unexpected roadside visitor changes everything for Vane and Cin.
Gods speak, curses might be broken, and a world of untapped potential is at their fingertips.
Change is coming and Vane and Cin are on the edge of the wave bringing it in.
Warning: This book contains a berserker-crazed gargoyle who REALLY wants to show his lady what he’s made of. If the forest is rockin’, don’t come knockin’!
My Review
I've only read two books in this series so far but when I saw that this novella was free I got it. I probably should have read the other books before this one first but I was able to follow what happened in this book just fine.
Cin is driving with her mate and another gargoyle in the car. Vane is her mate and he and the other gargoyle are in their stone form when she pulls over to the side of the road for a break. She's driving through the mountains and not sure where she is but when she steps out of the car, she hears a loud scream and then is kidnapped by a female bigfoot who needs her help.
Later Vane is visited by a very old shifter who bestows gifts on him because Cin's love for Vane called to him. I really like the gargoyle's in this series so this novella just makes me want to read more of the books and see what happens next.
This book is short, only 42 pages but I really enjoyed this novella.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Cupid's Enchantment: Anniversary Edition (Naughty Cupid Book 1) by Michelle M. Pillow
Book Description
Contrary to popular belief, Cupid is not a cute little cherub. And he’ll take revenge on any who say differently. Just ask Ilar, Commander of the Lycaon guard…
Lady Rhiannon’s beauty is distracting suitors from her older sister and ruining her chances at marriage, so her father has her locked her away in a tower. Believing she is going crazy from the isolation, Rhiannon hears a frightful voice. The next thing she knows, she wakes up in a strange forest pursued by mythical wolf men. And, worst of all, their leader is taking her home with him.
Ilar is irritated to discover an enchanted female—a human, their ancient hunters—disrupting his Lycan Guards. One sniff of this mortal’s enchantment and the men go insane, trying to kill each other for her hand. Ilar has no choice but to break the spell by claiming the female as his own. But who knows what will happen when Cupid’s Enchantment is broken?
My Review
When the Lycan, Ilar insulted Cupid, he decides to get revenge in what he thinks is the perfect plan. But Cupid isn't a cute little arrow shooting cherub. He's actually a nasty little troll who thinks that the beautiful Rhiannon is the ugliest female he could find. His revenge is to put a love spell on her and make the Lycan's go crazy over her, fighting over her. But the Lycan's can see that she's beautiful and Ilar being in charge has to keep her safe after she is kidnapped and sent to his world with no idea how she got there.
Rhiannon is human and could easily be hurt or killed from the Lycan's so Ilar locks the fighting Lycan's up and keeps Rhiannon sequestered in his room for the most part. While Ilar tries to figure out who she is and how she got there and why his men seem to want her for themselves, he has to spend time with her and they get to know each other which doesn't help keep him from wanting her for himself.
As they get closer to the truth as to who put the spell on her and why, they are falling for each other. I had to wonder if they would still want each other after the spell is broken. There were a few twists in this that made it even more interesting to read. I was happy with the ending. Sure made me think of Cupid in a different way. It was a fun read.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Chosen by the Alien Prince by Kyla Quinn
Book Description
I thought I’d become rent-a-womb for aliens, instead I’m handed to an alien prince. I’ve no idea why because he can’t stand to be alone with me.
I’m abducted by aliens and slung into holding cells with a group of other ‘lucky’ human women, but I don’t have long to figure out what’s happening because I’m taken elsewhere.
To the blue alien prince with a killer body, lethal claws, and horns.
Although he's definitely not horny. This moody and domineering alien refuses to touch me, but also pretends I’m his mate when he takes me around his swanky city. Turns out his parents want a baby blue grandchild and my hot alien prince isn’t the fatherly type.
The more time we spend together, the more I want him to throw me on his inviting bed and do wicked things to me. And I swear he looks at me as if he wants to devour me too—in a good way.
I’m on a countdown. If I don’t get pregnant with the prince’s baby soon, I can kiss my life goodbye. How far is my prince prepared to go to protect the woman the stars fated him to meet?
Chosen by the Alien Prince is a full-length, standalone sci-fi alien romance featuring a brooding, seductive alien who’ll do anything to protect his human mate.
If you love sexy aliens, strong heroines and fated mates romance, you’ll love this new series from Kyla Quinn. No cliffhangers or cheating, and a happily ever after—I promise!
All books in the Fated Star Mates series are standalones featuring different couples. They can be read individually but the series is best read in order.
My Review
This book starts off with Hope and other humans being abducted by aliens. They are taken to the alien planet, experimented on, tested to see if they were breedable. The aliens weren't having as many babies and female babies were rare so they needed to find other females to breed with but instead of going to other planets and making nice and asking for volunteers, they abducted females.
Hope was one of the human females that was abducted and taken to the alien planet. After being tested and implanted with a communication device so she could communicate with the aliens, she was selected to be the female that would breed with the price so his family line could live on. But when Tor first meets her, he's not interested in breeding with a human because he finds her lacking.
Hope doesn't want to have anything to do with Tor either and they both let each other know it. Tor is a seven foot tall, blue skinned alien with horns and a tail. So he intimidating to a small human female but his outright disgust of her at first doesn't go over well with her either. But she has to stay at his home until his mother is satisfied that the breeding between them won't work.
The more time they spend together though, the more they get to know each other. Then Tor realizes that she has something called Sol and that they are true mates and both of their feelings change when they can feel the mate bond between them. Things would have been fine if the government known as the "Regime" hadn't interfered and tried to take over the monarchy.
Tor was the Prince but his mother was the ruler but the regime really interfered and swayed her decisions. Tor hadn't really taken his Prince roll seriously so the regime was easily getting more and more control and power. So by the time he realized what was going on, it was too late for him to do anything about it. I am really looking forward to seeing Tor take back the crown and what will happen next. This is the 3rd book in the series but the first one that I've read. I didn't feel lost at all but I do want to read all the other books now.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #292
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post..
Wednesday morning the police were at the corner apartment building again. There were a bunch of people who didn't live there standing around and hanging out by the apartment doors. I don't know if someone there keeps calling the police or what.
I enlarged the picture so you can see the two police cars that were over there.
-----
This week my daughter noticed something I hadn't over by where a couple of the homeless guys have been sleeping. One of them has a Ninja Turtle in his shopping cart. That's a couple of chairs behind it.
My daughter was walking by and said it looked like the Ninja Turtle was watching her so she took a picture.
It does look like it's keeping an eye on her. lol
-----
Wednesday night I was walking Falcor and he barked at some woman who walked by me. I had him on a short leash and he never got close to her. she walked around the building just so she could walk by me again and walk really close to me. She slowed down so she could scream right in my ear, "Restrain your damn dog" To which I replied, "I did."
I kept walking but had my hand on my taser because when I turned around she was just standing there staring at me. I didn't know if she was going to come hit me or what. But she was mad. Like, really mad that my dog barked at her.
-----
If you read my Sunday post last week you know what a complete idiot the maintenance man is. Monday I put in a work order online for my clogged kitchen sink, he never showed up that day to fix it. So Tuesday morning I look to see if anything has updated about the work order and this motherfarker has updated the work order that he completed the work on Monday when I submitted it.
So I put in another work order and you can see what I said there. I said he never came out, my sink is still clogged and I would hope maintenance would actually come out and do the work today.
I took a screen shot of the work order just in case he tries to change the date or anything. Try and pull a fast one on me. Think again. They never came out to fix it all week. I sent two emails to the manager and no response. I finally got fed up on Friday and called the emergency maintenance number and talked with an actual person. I explained the situation and she sent out 2 different maintenance guys who did finally fix my drain and I didn't have to deal with the idiot maintenance guy from last week.
----
Monday night the police were down at the end apartment in my building but they only stay for a few minutes. No idea why. He has the homeless brother so maybe they were looking for him.
Then late Monday night we heard a bunch of gunshots really close. A few minutes later the police showed up and were shining their flashlights on the ground 2 doors down in the rocks, I am assuming looking for bullet casings (spent shells). They were out there for quite a while but I don't know if they found anything.
----
When I took falcor outside Thursday night, there were three big pitbulls off-leash walking around and one of them aggressively came up to Falcor. I saw the owner standing outside and I yelled at her to get her damn dog but she didn't even move. She did nothing to call her dog back. Thankfully I had my Taser with me set it off in the air for a few seconds that was enough to scare the dog away. Friday morning I called Animal Control to make a complaint and emailed the apartment manager letting them know that they have three big pitbulls in their apartment what they've already been told that they have to get rid of because no dogs over 25 pounds are allowed in this apartment complex. I warned her twice before when this happened and I told her the next time it happened that I would be calling animal control and making a complaint so she's been warned. This really pissed me off I'm glad I didn't have to tase the dog though, the sound was enough scare the dog away which is why I got the taser in the first place so I'm glad it worked.

Freebie Friday!
Welcome to another weekly Freebie Friday post, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.
A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.
You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.
This week I received:
I received 2 different samples of Color Street nail wraps.
3 bookmarks.
I like the nail wraps but my nails are so thin and bendable that these kinds of things don't really work for me. I usually use press on nails since they are very hard and strong.
Did you receive any freebies this week?
