Apartment Life #267

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Wednesday my neighbor found her registration sticker for her car on another neighbors car. So she called the non emergency number and waited for the police. Several hours later the police showed up and talked with the thief. I don't know what they said but she wasn't arrested. The police were here for a couple of hours taking pictures and talking to both parties though. I found out that here the license plate number is printed on the bottom of the sticker so it was easy for her to tell it was hers. The police also found out that the license plate she had on her car was also stolen so they took the whole license plate and told the lady she could go to the DMV and get a replacement registration sticker from them.

One of the ladies who used to be friends with the thief, went to my daughter's work and was talking to her. Nikki told my daughter that the thief has been stealing registration stickers and license plates for years because she doesn't want to pay to have her car registered. I'm so surprised she wasn't arrested.

The high this week was 109F/42C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. I am surprised she wasn't arrested. And was too lazy to do her thieving further away.
I hope you get a cool break in the weather soon.

  2. "The police also found out that the license plate she had on her car was also stolen"
    🤣🤣🤣
And they did nothing to her?

Also, wow, I didn't know it was so easy to steal license plates.

    1. I'm surprised too. Not sure if they plan to take her to court or hat but nothing was done so far. The license plated are just held on by 2 little screws.

  3. That neighbor must be pretty sharp-eyed. Most people don't look so closely at their cars. If one of my stickers disappeared, it might be weeks before I noticed.

The thief should have been arrested -- if nothing happens, where's her incentive to not do it again? But given what your area seems to be like, I imagine the police are kind of busy.

  4. So weird, so creepy & it would piss me off if it would happen to me, honestly. 😈 Hope they get punished, whoever they are! 🤷‍♂️

  5. Hi, Mary!

The temp soared back up to 109 degrees, dear friend? That's no good. I feel for the people living on the street, and for you and Falcor on your walks, but at least you folks don't have a catastrophic hurricane closing in as do residents of the Gulf coast.

It was a relatively quiet week on your block if the non emergency number was the only one used to summon police. Even so, it must be demoralizing to know that thievery is such a common thread running through the community that police don't do very much about it.

I wish you a safe and peaceful week and lower temperatures, dear friend Mary!

  6. Wow, so over all a nice quiet week, eh Mary?

  7. I'm surprised she wasn't arrested either. Hopefully there was a big fine involved at least.

    1. Yeah, something to stop her from doing it again.

  8. I'm also surprised she wasn't arrested, if she's been stealing registrations for years. I haven't heard of that happening here, but maybe it just doesn't get in the media.

    1. Ken used to score our registration sticker with cuts all over it after he put it on our car so no one could take it off.

  9. Wow, that’s crazy, but I doubt I’d ever notice my sticker being taken. Also, shocking it could be peeled off, but maybe with the extreme heat you’re experiencing it loosens the glue?

I had my front plate stolen once and I called the highway patrol and they just told me to go get new plates. Well, I couldn’t afford that, so I never did! I reported it and they didn’t seem to care.

    1. I guess they can come off if you try hard enough. Ken used to put a bunch of cuts in ours so no one could take the whole thing off.

  10. Good Grief! I've never heard of such a thing ... and from a neighbor no less. Like the other commenters, I can't believe she wasn't arrested. But hopefully, now that the cops showed up, she's learned her lesson will cease and desist.

    1. I sure hope so. Lots of people around here know what she did so they might be looking at her plates now if she gets new ones.

  11. I guess the police are afraid to make arrests these days because they might offend somebody.

    1. No idea why they didn't arrest her. Maybe she has a court date now. who knows.

  12. Wow, how ballsy for someone to just steal her car sticker like that!

  13. Wow, that's just one more thing. My stikers have peeled off and getting pulled over without one can cost up $150 in minnesota.

  14. Did the thief at least get a ticket? Because stealing registration stickers is pretty crappy. A co-worker of my sister got her license plate stolen at work. Fun times!

  16. 109- yikes. It was in the 90's here and I thought THAT was hot.

I'm a little surprised the woman wasn't arrested too! You just never know. It's amazing to me sometimes what people get away with! I always jokingly say if I forgot my turn signal or make a little mistake they're on me like a ton of bricks, but then you hear about stuff like this and *shrug*

    1. It's still really hot here. I was so surprised by that too.

  17. I wonder how the thief managed to talk her way out of arrest?! That's ridiculous.

  18. And I thought we were having a heat wave still with it being 90 degrees. haha I should count my blessings.

Your neighborhood life is never boring right? haha Stay safe Mary.

  19. I wonder in your area, some might have issue. A sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over. Hoping for a different outcome.

  21. I am not surprised she wasn't arrested. I bet the car has a new plate on it before the end of the week.

  22. OMG 109 and I thought 100 was bad

  23. That's very, very odd. Stealing registration stickers!

  24. Maybe they are sending her to the DMV because they can fine her big time for lapsed tags instead of it being a ticket, but weird that the stealing part didn't seem to be addressed.

    1. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe she will get in trouble at the DMV.

  27. My idiot sister used to steal the registration stickers off of cars when she wouldn't have the money to renew her plates. She's one who doesn't believe in paying for car insurance either but has totaled out 2 cars. Neither of which were hers. And no, she never paid for the repairs to the people who were out the money from her recklessness and the system doesn't seem willing to enforce it either. It's just sad what people can get away with.

Well, at least a stolen registration sticker made for a quiet week. 😌
