Apartment Life #288

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.

The 2 end apartment in the building across from me have been vacant for a while and one of the apartments used to have a board on the door as well as the window. But then maintenance started working in there and the floors were being replaced and the walls were being painted so they left the board off the door I guess thinking that the security door would be enough to keep the crackheads out.

They were wrong. People broke into the apartment after they had worked in there for days. Me and a couple of other neighbors got sick of seeing the crackheads freely walking in and out the door so we emailed the manager on a Wednesday. They didn't respond to any of us and didn't send maintenance out to kick them out and cover the door with a board until Monday.

A few days later my daughter saw the same crackheads slithering through the bedroom window of the same apartment. Me and my neighbors decided not to email again and instead let the crackheads tear the place up in the hopes that the hit in the pocketbook of the management company when they have to fix everything that the crackheads break in there and re-paint over all the graffiti that will obviously be there will teach them to board up the windows as well.

I mean, the residents who emailed the manager didn't even get a, "Hey thanks for letting us know" or anything. No response at all.

----

For weeks now the guy 2 doors away from me *Bam Bam* has been slamming all of his doors inside and out. He slams his door and screen door. He will stand there and slam it several times sometimes. We can hear him slamming his bedroom door over and over inside his apartment. He points his bluetooth speaker outside and plays music for the courtyard and laughs maniacally. He used to say hi when he saw me or my daughter, now he just stares all crazy eyes half the time O.O.

This week has been especially bad. He's been slamming either the bedroom or the bathroom door repeatedly in a row all night long. One of my other neighbors was talking to us about it the next morning. He said that when he did it around 8 times in a row that is scared the crap out of him because it was loud through the walls and kept waking him up. The guy is 2 doors away from me and I can hear it through the walls really loudly. That gives you an idea how hard he is banging this door shut over and over again.

My daughter walked by one day while he had his blinds and door open and saw he was just pacing back and forth in his kitchen talking to himself. Tuesday night he came and sat down next to my daughter outside and was talking normal like he used to for a minute and then told my daughter the government has tapped his phone. Then he started making weird hand gestures and said he doesn't like his fingers. Fingers! He was acting very paranoid too. So I think he might be schizophrenic and is either off his meds or is never took meds for it.

We thought about the calling the police but the only thing they will do is come do a welfare check on the guy. The noise won't actually stop and we are afraid if the cops show up it will make him mad and he'll do it even more or he'll become even more paranoid.

Then Friday night he threw bottled Jalapeno peppers all over the sidewalk, lined hotdogs by his door and tossed a flat of water bottles out into the courtyard.

I had to wait until the next morning to get pictures. But there are jalapenos all over the sidewalk in front of his door.

And here are the hotdogs he lined up next to his door. The water bottles got picked up soon after he threw them out in the rocks. Drug dealer and Jessica (who I've talked about before) gathered up the water bottles and took them back to drug dealer's apartment. I have no idea what he was thinking but he came outside and was yelling and screaming when he threw all this stuff outside. And yes, I have nicknamed him Bam Bam.

-----

Someone I know at the Dollar Tree just down the street took these pictures. Last week a woman walked into her store and told her she was depressed and felt like killing herself and others. So my the worker asked her if she wanted her to call for help and she said yes because she was thinking of killing the worker and the other people in the store. So she called and told them that. While they waited the worker brought out a chair for her to sit on and bought her some candy and they waited. The worker called 2 more times over the next 2 hours. The operator just kept telling her they were busy. It took 2 hours for the police and an ambulance to show up but they finally did.

Well done to your daughter and I am very glad that emergency service FINALLY showed up. I hope that poor woman gets the help she needs. I wonder whether they would have come a little quicker if she had started shooting people...

  2. What a mess. A few months ago I e-mailed the management at my building because I could hear a door slamming occasionally somewhere in the building, and literally within two hours they had a written notice on every apartment door telling people to not slam doors, reminding them it was a lease violation, etc. I suppose contacting your own building management wouldn't help or else you'd have mentioned it.

Very glad you're getting over covid-19.

If the fuzz take two hours to respond to a threat to kill people, they're hopeless.

That's weird about the hot dogs outside the door. That's just going to attract animals.

    1. It took days just to get maintenance to come and kick people out of a vacant apartment. They won't do anything for the door slammer. If we have a problem they tell us to call the police.

  4. Hi, Mary!

Well, it was an eventful week on your block, even though it did not involve police activity. In fact, it seems like it's hard to find a cop or get one to respond when you need one, as was the case when that woman threatened to kill your daughter and store customers. The police are about as responsive as the apartment management company.

Clearly Bam Bam is trying to call attention to himself by slamming doors at all hours of the day and night. Maybe he needs a "Pebbles" in his life to calm him down. In the meantime, a psych consult seems like a good idea. I'd love to know what was going through his troubled mind when he tossed Jalapeno peppers onto the sidewalk, water bottles into the courtyard and lined hot dogs outside his door. Maybe it was his subtle way of hosting a block party and showing appreciation for his neighbors. :)

I'm glad you and your family are bouncing back from COVID symptoms. Have a safe and happy week, dear friend Mary!

  5. How scary for your daughter, but wow, she handled the situation like a pro! And btw, I’ve always thought Dollar Tree was by far the best dollar store!

Bam Bam needs help, but mental health services seem to be stretched to the limits due to the pandemic and they weren’t great before that either.

I can’t even with your apartment management!

    1. The manager here is worthless. They just don't care.

Mental health services are a low priority here right now.

  6. Scary and busy week.
Find out who owns the apartments and call them instead. They will not be happy with the way the manager is handling the place and do something.

    1. A couple of people have already tried contacting the owner when we have raw sewage flowing on the sidewalks last year. He doesn't care. he owns a bunch of apartment complexes and just cares about the money. He told a couple of people to refer to the management company.

  7. Jeeeysus you should Write a Book, you can't make this shit up! Here's the kicker, when we lived in Da Hood the Police would say they were too busy to respond right away, you know, like they would in any affluent neighborhood for mere trifles the affluent call about... I'd get in my Truck and drive just a Block or Two and find one pulled to the Curb just playing on their Phone... and prompt them to respond to a Call for a dire Emergency called perhaps an Hour or more beforehand... you know, NOW you're NOT SO BUSY... They just don't care that much about responding to Crime in certain areas... now that we live in a really nice Neighborhood, any call is responded to immediately, regardless of level of Urgency and their attitude when they show up is far different than their attitude towards anyone in less affluent neighborhoods, Trust me, this is the God's Honest Truth but I'm sure you probably suspected that anyway, Right? Well, at least you got pixs, the Hot Dog Lineup was rather a nice Touch, perhaps he was Baiting Crackheads? *LOL*

  9. Quite the week over there. Was it a full moon or what. As for management, one would think they’d be happy and grateful to have residents looking out for them, but Noooooooo. So screw ‘em. Your daughter was quite calm, cool, collected, not to mention kind. No excuse for that poor response time.

    1. I don't know if they are really busy with Covid cases or if there was something big going on for it to have taken so long. But my daughter handled it well.

      Management is worthless here.

  10. That was irresponsible of the police not to answer the call immediately. In a situation like that, in two hours all the people could have been murdered. Calls like that should be a #1 priority.
The slamming dude sounds crazy and paranoid.

  14. Wow. I am sure that your loud neighbor has some kind of mental illness. I hate that he is making things difficult for everyone near him. You would think that management would know to board up any vacant apartments. Crazy! I am glad that your daughter was able to get that woman some help.

  25. It's a shame management doesn't take more pride in their investment, but I suppose out of sight out of mind. Or maybe they really don't care. Probably both.

I am so glad the situation at the store didn't turn out worse and your daughter. Quick thinking on your daughter's part!

Take care, Mary. I am glad you are feeling better!

  28. How scary for your daughter that it took so long for anyone to respond to her call for help. I am glad the lady was able to sit and relax and that she was willing to get help. Hope things start to calm down at your apartment complex. Something is definitely going on with your neighbor. I hope is okay and that he starts taking his meds if he is supposed to be taking any.

    Stay safe!

  29. 2 hours to respond to someone threatening to kill your daughter and customers? That's unacceptable. A complaint needs to be made. Then again, in this political climate of firing all of the police officers who aren't vaccinated or simply not giving them the support they need to do their job, we are severely understaffed in LEOs and I fear it's only going to get worse. I'm glad your daughter was safe in the end.

LOL at Bam Bam. I'm sure it's not funny living next to that guy, but holy crap, it makes for some entertaining stories for the rest of us. The hot dogs hahaha.
