The Sunflower

Every year my daughter plants something different in her little patch of garden that she made in front of our apartment. This year she wanted to grow a couple of sunflowers.

It didn't take long for the stems to get really long.

Some of them grew and some didn't.

But this week, we have a sunflower blooming. The plants in the little pot were wild flowers but most of them died before they bloomed. I think it was too hot.

  1. Nice-looking sunflower. Glad it survived to bloom despite all the creeps you have wandering around.

  4. Simply a beautiful burst of yellow. Hopefully no one in the neighborhood comes by and Snips off the flower to take home. Your daughter has a green thumb for your hot weather.

    1. They haven't before when we had wild flowers so I'm hoping they don't with this too.

  5. Sunflowers are a joy. I don’t think there were any fields locally this year, but I have enjoyed them in the past.

  6. Congratulations on the lovely cheery sunny sunflower, always smiling at the sun! And the seeds can feed the birds.

  7. What a gorgeous sunflower! I have some growing in my backyard; the birds love them. And wildflowers can be hard to grow. I've never had much success getting them to bloom.

  12. Her sunflower did great. I've tried to grow them and they do well until they bloom and the deer and squirrels get to them. I love that she does the corner flower bed each year.

  13. That's awesome! The squirrels and chipmunks always eat our seeds, so no sunflowers here.

  15. We used to have fields of sunflower back at our old farming estate, they are so sticky when you try to pluck the seeds out of the flower head.

  16. I never had success growing sunflowers at my house. Something ate them. I'm glad one of your daughters' survived. They are such beautiful flowers. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  19. I love it. I had sunflowers in my garden over a decade ago. In the fall, I threw the dead ones behind the fence onto an easement and sunflowers bloomed all along the easement for the entire block for the next five or six years.
