Apartment Life #542

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 27 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 27 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Wednesday night about 12:24AM I heard a gunshot. It was close, I had my bedroom window open and it was loud. Sounded like it came from across the street. I would have called the police but all they do is drive by when I call. So why bother.
---

One morning I heard 2 police officers talking while they were walking up and down my street. I took the dog out and got this picture. They kept walking back and forth on my street looking at the rocks. I don't know if they were looking for spend shells from a bullet or blood drops. I have no idea. I never heard if anyone got shot or hurt from the gunshot I heard that night. Usually people talk around here if something like that happens and no one was talking so I don't think anyone did.

The high this week was 83F/28C
The low this week was 66F/18C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. They were looking for shells. Cops spent a lot of time looking for shells. I don't know if they ever make an arrest based on shells, but they look for them like kids at the seashore.

    1. That's very true, I've seen them searching for spent shells before and they do search for a bit.

  2. It's so scary, especially for the families caught up in the gun battle, I guess. Indonesia has had shootings just like other foreign countries; however, most of them happen on certain occasions and in specific situations, not on a daily basis.

Indonesia does not allow civilians to own deadly firearms. Only law enforcement officers are licensed to carry them to protect the community. Mass shootings rarely happen here.

We live here safely and peacefully, in harmony.

    1. I would say 75% of Americans or more have firearms here. My state is an open carry state, meaning people can have their guns out carrying them or have them in a holster on their hips if they want.

  3. UGH - that is so scary!!! And I'm sorry that you feel discouraged from calling for help!

    1. The police won't show up or if they do it's an hour later and they just drive by most times.

    1. There's someone across the street that shoots his gun off late at night all the time.

  5. Of course it's not good that somebody is shooting right there in your very own neighborhood. If they find anything I doubt if it helps them catch the person who actually did the shooting. Stay safe.

  6. That's sad the cops don't really do much when there is a shooter in the area...

    1. Not unless they find spent shells, or there's a witness saying what the person looks like who is doing the shooting.

  7. That’s really something Mary. I hear gunshots from a firing range about two miles away every now and again. Depending on the direction of the wind I guess.

    1. That would be annoying to live close enough to one to hear the gunshots.

  8. More than gunshots. I've been hearing more fireworks than ever in my neighborhood. It's a longstanding joke between my son and I where every time we here one, we say things like "Not in August, really, September, October" than we start laughing. It happens even during peewee football games

  9. We have a rifle range not too far from our house and so sometimes I hear gunshots. But they aren't scary because I know it's just target practice. But hearing one in the night and then seeing the police...that is scary. Stay safe Mary.

  15. Dear Mary, oh my goodness! This reminds me of what happened one day when I was living in another area (part of Montreal) where drugs and such activities were happening! This is why I moved and am glad to be away from there.
One day, my (then) husband and I (I am divorced since 1998), were in the living room when all of a sudden, we heard a gunshot. My husband shouted to me, "Linda, duck!" as I was standing near a window. Very frightening!
Please stay safe, dear friend, this is something I remember after more than three decades!

  24. If there was a gunshot you would expect to see a gunman (or woman). They must have made a fast getaway before anyone spotted them. But why the gunshot anyway?

    1. The guy who does it usually does it across the street in their alley where I can't see. It's still really load when they are over there though. They usually shoot up in the air just for the hell of it is my guess.

  25. Gunshot reports should be not followed up on by the police. That does not seem right.

  28. Years ago, when I lived in and not so great part of New York City, I would hear gunshots occasionally, but never so close may have helped that I lived on the fourth floor of an apartment building. It’s a shame when you have unresponsive Police. Alana ramblinwitham .blogspot.com

  29. I used to call all the time when I lived in the hood and heard gunshots. They need to establish a timeline if something happens that they need to solve. In Houston, they alwYs asked if I could tell what kind of gun it was by the sound. lol no. They never came out though. Then once I moved to the country about 90 minutes out, I was just told, “It’s probably just someone shooting wildlife on their own property.” Oh , lol that’s not usually what it means in Houston lol.
