Apartment Life #304
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
My daughter went outside to get these pictures since my phone doesn't take good pictures at night. There were actually two police cars there, one was behind the other. They had two of the tweakers from that apartment building on that side of the street pulled aside and were talking to them. They were out there for about an hour and one guy went to jail eventually.
My daughter took a few pictures while the police were across the street.
I'm not sure what happened but it was enough of something for one person to go to jail.
2 hours later at midnight, there were two more police cars out here but my daughter was asleep so I don't have pictures of that. But they were talking to different people so it was a different incident. I happened to get up at 5am with Falcor so he could go out and I was standing in front of my door in my courtyard and a police car drove slowly by the fence, stopped and shined their light on two of the tweakers who were camped out in front of drug dealers apartment. But then they moved on without talking to anyone. Then, the next morning I saw several police cars driving up and down the street, just patrolling.
---
Last week I told you the roofers had been replacing the roof on my building. Well on Saturday the gutter started to fall off down at the end of the building. The roofers had to of loosened it from the side of the roof when they were working. I figured it wasn't a big deal. One section fell off and it would be fine and maintenance would fix it on Monday.
And then we started getting some high winds and more sections of the gutters started coming down and hanging off the roof.
They just kept falling like metal puzzle pieces that no longer fit together.
But not only were the metal gutter sections falling to the ground and hanging off the roof, the wires and cables to residents cable tv, and internet were also getting messed up. You can see one cable in this picture of my neighbors internet. Of course this was a Saturday and no one can come out to fix it until Monday. There are two hanging gutter sections here.
Saturday night my daughter took more pictures because more gutter sections were hanging off and falling to the ground and even more cables were getting pulled off the roof.
More cables and more gutter sections.
By Sunday morning the gutter sections that were falling off had made their way all the way down to my next door neighbor's apartment.
The next gutter section would be hanging right in front of my door when it came loose.
Which did happen around 2pm on Sunday. There are 4 sections of the gutter hanging off the roof in this picture. That piece that is hanging at an angle is in front of my door. And then the wind picked back up and we started getting gusts up to 75mph.
So my daughter went out and took pictures of the rest of the gutter sections that had come loose down on our end of the building. That white chair is in front of my apartment. At this point there were two gutter sections down at the other end of the building that were hanging on for dear life that hadn't yet fallen down.
That's my door that's open right there. You can see our chairs and table that I'm always talking about having to tell people to get away from. lol But you can see one gutter section directly in front of my door. Now realize that these are hanging from one single nail and are swinging wilding back and forth in the wind that's gusting to 75mph.
If we opened our door to go out, this gutter section was right there and we had to carefully scoot around it as it blew back and forth in the wind. It was like a dangerous maze when I had to take Falcor out.
What made it even more dangerous is that there were these 5-6 inch long nails sticking out from the gutter pieces.
It's not a great picture but that's one of the nails that we had to try and avoid on all of these gutter sections.
Those last two gutter sections did eventually fall down overnight and ended up in the courtyard. After counting all these gutter sections in this post I've started to feel like The Count on Sesame Street. One gutter piece blah blah blah. Two gutter pieces blah blah blah.
The cable and internet wires for a couple of residents were pulled even further down when the gutter pieces came down.
If all of that wasn't bad enough, the roofer's left the pile of boards that they ripped off the roof while they were redoing it on Friday and just left it there in the rocks with the nails sticking up. There are a lot of kids around here and this sure looks like a hazard to me.
The boards.
Monday morning I emailed the office and let them know what happened since there's no one available on the weekends. I knew calling the main office would do no good since they don't answer the phones anymore, it's all automated and you can leave a message but they never get back to you. I never got a response from the email so I was glad to see one of the maintenance guys cleaning the grounds and showed him the gutters. He started taking pictures and got on his phone. Within an hour two maintenance guys had taken down the gutters and put them away. The roofer's never showed up on Monday.
Sorry that this post was so picture heavy, there was just a lot going on.
I posted some of this on Twitter this week as it was happening. If you're on Twitter you can find me at

Freebie Friday!
Welcome to another weekly Freebie Friday post, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.
A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.
You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.
This week I received:
Macy's perfume samples.
Moroccan Oil Body Souffle body lotion.
I love getting the perfume samples obviously. I have two big piles of them right now.
The body souffle lotion is nice. It left my skin very soft.
This is one of the jars of perfume samples that I have. I have a small box of them in the bathroom as well. This is in my bedroom, inside the metal tray I have some of my makeup in. The blue glass used to be a candle, but once the candle melted down, I cleaned it out and used it for some perfume samples.
I don't normally single one perfume out but the Cashmere Mist by Donna Karan smells so good. If I were to buy any one perfume that I've tried from all the samples, it would be that one.
Did you receive any freebies this week?

Book Review: The Girl Who Jumped by Matilda Swinney
Book Description
A lifetime of failed relationships. One huge risk. One sexy dominating man. What could go wrong?
Based on true events, after a lifetime of frogs, Tilly sets out to find her own Prince Charming. But there's a catch. She wants her Prince Charming to be the ultimate dominating man.
Not sure if this is possible, she follows her best friends' advice and ditches conventional dating sites for a steamy sex dating website. However, Tilly quickly realises reality is not like the fairy tales. As she battles with her inner feminist will she ever get used to his rules? And more importantly, what is he hiding?
Perfect for fans of steamy romantic comedies, age gaps, the miscommunication trope and elements of BDSM. Prepare to embrace your deepest desires, fall in love with the ultimate dominating guy and learn to listen to your heart along the way.
The Girl Who Jumped is a hilarious, heart-warming and surprisingly moving story of a young woman pulling herself out of her comfort zone to get the life (and sex!) she's always wanted.
My Review
Tilly meets up with her mysterious online dominant after texting back and forth with him for a time. She thinks she might have found the man who will help her live out her fantasy of being dominated after dating a bit and not finding the right guy before this. Her Sir likes to text her and give her orders on what to do, what to wear ect. He's a bit controlling but she likes that. This is the type of relationship she's looking for.
But as they get to know one another more and spend more and more time together, her friends have some questions about her mystery man which makes Tilly question him and find things out about him that she might not have been ready for.
I liked this because it was relatable, believable and had a sweet romance once they got through their problems. This isn't just about the D/s relationship or BDSM, it's more about finding love, finding companionship and that one person whom you can call your own and spend your life with. Since this book is based on the author's real life, it was interesting to read it because I felt like I really got to know her better. That's an interesting feeling to have with an author. Not only do we get a look into her relationship but also her life, her past and her dreams.
I had a good time with this and can recommend it for those who like this kind of story.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Review: The Daily Goodie Box- May
The Daily Goodie Box has been around since about July of 2016. I signed up for an account right after I heard about them. They are 100% free, you don't even have to pay for shipping. And for a free box it's a nice sampler box of products.
What was in the box?
Tipson - Liver Cleanse- I love tea and trying new tea but this was terrible. It has such a weird taste to it that I couldn't drink it. Can't really help, it you can't stand to drink it.
Ultima Replenisher - Electrolyte Powder- I've tried so many of these hydration powders and they are just terrible. I didn't care for the taste of this one by itself in just water.
Vitamin Friends - Kids Vegan Iron Gummies- These Iron vitamins are good. They have a grape/berry flavor for them. I like that they have Vitamin C and B vitamins in them. I will take these myself even though it says kids gummies.
Cleanse Freshen Go - Dental Appliance Cleansing Towelettes- I don't have a dental appliance like braces and don't know anyone who does so this isn't something I will be using.
SmartPatches - Classic Hangover Prevention- I don't drink so I gave them to my daughter to use and she had a few drinks on May 5th but she said she felt nothing different from using these patches.
All they ask you to do is try the products and leave reviews for the products you got in order to be eligible for more Free Goodie Boxes. As you guys already know, I'm a fan of all these types of boxes. I love all the different subscription boxes and it's really nice to be able to try new to me products for free. This is a great box to try for.
Oh and one more thing, if you visit their FB Page, they give away Goodie Boxes to people who interact with their posts. So if you've tried before and weren't able to get a Goodie Box, there's even more ways to get one now.
Have you signed up? Have you received one of these boxes?
I'm a fan of subscription boxes and love trying new products for free so this was a huge hit with me. New products+free box = Fabulous!
Disclosure: I was given and free box in exchange for a review but all opinions are my own.

Ring: A Vampire Novel by Connie Myres
Book Description
Bloodthirsty vampires, obedient gargoyles, and a creepy castle on the shore of Lake Michigan, just might give Cassie the alternative future that she thought she wanted.
Cassie co-owns C & N Rare Books with her best friend Nicole in Black Water, Michigan. Desperately wanting to be a wife and mother, she decides her longtime boyfriend Derrick is the man she should marry, even though he wasn’t everything that she thought she wanted in a husband. Then an intriguing man enters the shop and Cassie reconsiders her options. Maybe Gustave was the right man for her—fate stepped in just in time.
Will bookstore owner Cassie Fields marry her longtime love and have children before her biological clock runs out, or will the mysterious man and the found ring drive her to madness, causing her to lose everything she's ever wanted?
Vampires, obsession, and a series of haunting events plague Cassie and influence her life decisions. Can she break the hypnotizing pull of the mysterious stranger, Gustave Veil?
My Review
Cassie owns a bookstore which I loved. That has to be my favorite job for someone in a book I'm reading. She thinks her long time boyfriend, Derrick is going to ask her to marry him and she's excited until a mysterious man walks into her bookstore asking for a particular book she has to find for him. When he leaves the ring behind that she has been looking at, she decides to get the book and take both the book and the ring back to him herself. But she makes the mistake of putting the ring on her finger after she forgets to put it in the safe and finds it in her pocket.
Gustave seems like one of those mysterious, rich guys that end up being sweet vampires in the vampire romances that I read. But he's been watching Cassie unbeknownst to her and putting the ring on her finger just put her in danger.
Gustave is not the romantic vampire type that I am used to reading. No, he's more the old Dracula type vampire who is ruthless, bloodthirsty and used to getting his way by any means necessary. We get a past look at how he's treated people to get what he wants and he's not a nice guy. The people who are with him are not nice either so when Cassie is able to fight the hypnotic pull somehow, he's not happy.
I love Cassie's friends and the fact that Derrick comes to fight for her. The story was good and I really liked all the other characters and monsters. There are gargoyles that are just as bloodthirsty as Gustave is and it made for an interesting story. The ending was really good and exactly what I needed to make this a fun story.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #303
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life.
On Monday I just happened to look out my bedroom window when I saw several police cars going around the corner and into the alley for the apartment complex across the street from me. This was the only police car I was fast enough to open my window and get a picture of though. The police were across the street and I watched them go into two different apartments and talk to several people over there. I don't know what was happening but no one was arrested before they left.
---
I saw the Marshall go to one of my neighbor's apartments but she wasn't home. I seriously doubt the Marshall was there for her. She was probably there for the A-hole boyfriend that she kicked out over a month ago. He was loud and obnoxious and she is such a nice quiet woman. A couple of days later two Marshall's showed up at her door when she was home and they went it to talk to her. They came out and left and haven't been back. I have to wonder if her ex has a warrant and they were looking for him or something.
---
On Thursday the police showed up and then the ambulance. The ambulance took away the homeless brother of the guy who lives in my apartment building.
Then guy who's homeless brother is always breaking his windows was out there talking to the police I'm assuming about his brother. I have no idea what was wrong with the homeless brother but I know he does drugs so it might have been that.
---
Last week two different people moved out of my building. One guy just didn't want to renew his lease next month and I can hardly blame him with everything that's been happening around here. The other guy who moved out actually got evicted. It was the guy who was off his antipsychotic meds and was yelling and screaming all day and night. So many people complained that management finally evicted him.
----
Saturday morning I walked by drug dealer's apartment and there was a druggie out there in front of their door with a bucket of water. He had his pants pulled all the way down and was using the bucket of water to clean his junk. He pulled his pants up as I was walking by, pulled out a small vial and did a hit of coke off a small spoon. Did not even care I was there. Then he walked over to the bushes and urinated.
Drug dealer had their door open and did not care. I'm sure he got the bucket of water from them.
I can't even with this place. He then proceeded to stand down there cleaning the rest of his body in front of their door with the bucket of water.
So I guess drug dealer is ok with selling drugs, letting the druggies smoke the drugs in his apartment but draws the line at letting them take a shower or use the restroom?
Good grief.
---
The roofers have been on my building all week redoing the roof. They start at 7am and they are loud. But Falcor was sick with stomach troubles for a few of those nights and he got me up a few times each night to go out, so I didn't get any sleep. And I couldn't sleep in because of the noise.
One morning the roofers pushed their trailer right up to the wall of my building where the bedrooms are and they smacked the wall. Omg it was so loud and it shook the wall. It scared the bejuju's outta me at 7am. I was wide awake after that. I will be glad when they are done. But at least I don't have to worry about a leaky roof if it rains.

The high this week was 99F/37C
The low this week was 59F/15C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

While this song isn't as 'hard' or metal as some of the other songs I've shared, I really like it. Letdown has a few other songs that I really like as well. I really like the lead singers voice as well. Enjoy.

Book Review: The Right To Bear Arms by Vivienne Savage
Book Description
Standalone romance with adult content, no cliffhanger.
After years of abuse, Daniela Reyes escapes her marriage to strike out on her own. With a rented house near the wilderness and a sexy neighbor down the road, life seems typical until she finds a black bear snoozing in her new hammock.
Despite warnings, she feeds her wild friend and watches him return day after day. Her bear is the ideal distraction from the ex who won’t let her go.
Russell Hawkins has dedicated his entire life to protecting others. When the death of his wife drives him to retire from the Army, he settles in a remote community for the peace, quiet, and privacy to be himself. As a werebear, he roams the woods with his dog, the perfect diversion from his grief -- and the voluptuous divorcee down the lane.
Can a war vet with a secret and a woman with a painful past find their happy future together?
My Review
Daniela finally got the courage to leave and divorce her abusive husband. After the divorce she takes the insurance money from the house fire and moves to a cabin in the woods. She finally feels free and can do as she pleases. So when a bear ends up spending the night in her hammock outside, she starts feeding it even though her friends and family tell her she shouldn't. She starts thinking of the bear as hers because he always comes back in the morning for breakfast.
Russell is a werebear who is still grieving his late wife who he lost to cancer a couple of years prior. He's not much of a cook so he doesn't mind stopping by Daniela's cabin for breakfast even if he didn't mean to fall asleep in her hammock that first night.
They both find each other attractive but don't make a move until Russell comes to her rescue when her abusive ex comes visiting trying to get her back. Russell doesn't think he'll be back but he'd be wrong and the ex makes all kinds of problems for Daniela when he figures out that she now has a backbone and isn't going to come back to him. Daniela likes to cook and Russell loves her cooking so they make a really nice couple after getting to know each other a little better. Russell is a really nice guy, nothing like her ex so Daniela has a hard time at first understanding why he's interested in her because her ex really did a number on her self confidence.
Russell is a retired Army vet from a very secretive special kind of unit. We find out more about that after Michael, Daniela's ex comes back around and puts both of them in danger.
I really liked this shifter romance. it had a great romance and just enough danger from the ex to make it really exciting.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

My Favorite Hair Products
I've got long hair, it's past my waist and I love trying new products. Most time though products don't actually do what they say they will and then there are times that I think I'm buying it for one thing and end up using it for something else. So here are three hair products that I've tried and really like.
This is GIOVANNI 2chic Ultra-Moist Leave-In Conditioning Styling Elixir, 4 oz. - Smoothes Frizz Prevents Breakage, Avocado & Olive Oil, Enriched with Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Botanical Extracts, No Parabens.
It is $8.99 on Amazon. (It was when I bought it)
I actually originally bought this for my daughter and I tried it once and really liked it so I bought a bottle for myself. It's a really nice leave in conditioner and makes it easier for me to brush/comb my hair when it's wet. It doesn't leave a residue on my hair and it smells great.
This is Garnier Fructis Style Smooth Air Dry Anti-Frizz Cream, 5.1 fl. oz.
It was $3.49 when I bought it on Amazon.
The funny thing about this is that I thought frizz and fly away hair was the same thing. I was looking for something to stop the fly aways and give me less static in my hair when I brush it so I bought this. When this did nothing to stop the fly aways I Googled if that and frizz were the same thing and color me surprised that they are not. lol
But this ended up being a really nice leave in conditioner and it smells really good and leaves my hair shiny. It didn't leave a residue in my hair once it dried so for the price this is great as a leave in conditioner. And it's meant for hair that is air dried which is what I do so this works well for me.
This is Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti-Frizz Serum, Frizzy, Dry, Unmanageable Hair, 5.1 fl; oz.
it was $4.94 when I purchased it on Amazon.
I bought this at the same time as the last one and you can see it's for frizzy hair. But it's probably my favorite of all three of these products. I saved the best for last. This looks and feels kind of like oil but I use only one pump of this in my wet hair after I wash my hair and it makes my hair silky soft, and even if my hair is a tangled mess, I can brush/comb my wet hair with ease. You remember when your were a little girl and your mom would buy those detangle sprays so it wouldn't hurt to brush your hair, well this works better than any of those!
It smells amazing and once your hair is dry there's no oily feeling at all and no weird residue. Again this does nothing for the fly away hair problem or the static I have in my hair when brushing but it's such a good leave in conditioner that I don't care.
So this is what my hair looks like before I use a flat iron to straighten it and you can see it's not completely straight until I straighten it. I don't know if you can tell from this picture but there's also a lot of flyaways going on and it had some static to it which made the flyaway problem even worse. But my hair is very long. So now I need to find a product to fix my flyaway problem.

Book Review: The Phoenix Dragons by Jadyn Chase
Book Description
Kaley Jameson was a flight attendant on a layover at the Phoenix airport when everything went black. Now three months later she is still there. Hiding out and surviving as best she can . . . But she is not alone. The mysterious dragon shifters have come to town, quickly taking over and picking off the survivors one by one.
One night after being caught by the shifters, a mysterious man comes to Kaley’s rescue. Our stranger's name is Donovan, a very sexy and very brave man who managed to save her from certain death more than once. However, Kaley soon learns a terrible secret about Donovan. Now she will have to decide whether to continue making her way alone . . . Or risk everything to be with him.
My Review
In a post-apocalyptic world Kayley is just trying to survive but she needs water in order to do that. So she tries again to steal some from the dragons that just appeared one day after all the electronics stopped working. But this time she gets caught and if not for Donovan, she probably would have been killed by them.
Donovan has been watching Kayley and knows that she is pushing her luck trying to steal from the dragons. When she gets caught Donovan knows he has to step in if she has a chance to get away from them so he does.
Later Donovan goes to where Kayley has been sleeping and convinces her to come out when he shows her he brought food and water for her. When Donovan leaves, he asks her to stay there where she is safe and he promises to bring back more food and water for her which he does. Later they leave for Sedona when Donovan tells her that it's no longer safe there because the Dragons won't stop trying to find them until both of them are dead.
They find common ground between them as secrets are revealed and they fall for each other. It was an interesting premise and I liked the romance for such a quick read but I would have liked to know more about what happened and how the dragon's got there.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
I looked out my bedroom window and spotted a police car and a fire truck a little further down the street. You can just make out the fire truck on the left side of the picture.
The I saw the fire department ambulance headed down that way as well. I have no idea what was going on that day though since it was down the street a little ways. My phone camera is just awful but I didn't have enough time to open my window to get a better picture. I'll have to make sure to open the window from now on. Taking pictures through the window creates this glare.
---
On Friday the ambulance showed up for someone in my apartment complex and they were taken to the hospital. But at least there were no police that day.
---
On Thursday there was a shooting just down the street from where I live. Here's the news report on what happened.

Book Review: Panther's Promise by Zoe Chant
Book Description
She's a struggling artist on the edge of a big break - if the world doesn't break her first
When the gallery exhibition that was meant to kick-start curvy artist Irina Mathers' career instead threatens to ruin it, the last thing she expected was a dark and seductive Prince Charming sweeping her off her feet. He's everything she never dared to dream of. Strong, protective, and utterly caring. But there's something about him she doesn't know.
He's a panther shifter who doesn't trust his panther
Billionaire Grant Diaz grew up struggling to suppress his panther. Panthers don't have a pack instinct; they're loners, like his shifter father, who abandoned Grant and his mother decades ago. Grant is haunted by the thought that he will do the same—that the animal inside him will be stronger than the man. He promised himself long ago that he'd never let his panther hurt any woman he loved. When he meets Irina, he can't fight his attraction to her. Gorgeous, funny Irina is everything he ever wanted, but being with her means he'll have to face what he truly is.
Grant isn't the only one with his eye on her...
Irina's moment in the spotlight put a target on her back. Someone wants her dead. Someone who has powers beyond anything either of them have seen before. Grant always feared his panther's instincts would break his mate's heart. But now, he'll have to trust the animal inside him to save her life.
My Review
Irina has an art showing and is hoping that this will be a big break for her but when a rather rude woman corners Irina at the showing it's Grant that comes to her rescue. Grant knows the rude woman because he and her brother are friends. He's actually at the showing to see if he can find that friend but he meets Irina instead and immediately knows that she is his mate.
The problem with Grant finding his mate is he's always been afraid that his panther will become too strong and make him hurt and leave the human woman he loves if he finds one since panther shifters are notoriously loners. His father left his mother and him and never looked back and he vowed to never do the same thing.
Irina works a lot so they don't have a lot of time to get together but he takes her out when she does have the time. It becomes apparent that someone wants Irina dead so they have to figure out who. Grant has to rely somewhat on his panther to help Irina and they have to work together which is something neither of them are used to. it was great seeing Grant realize that his panther is nothing like his dad's and he doesn't have to worry about hurting Irina like his father did his mother.
I liked the conclusion and the reveal as to who was after Irina and why. It was a good read.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
