Apartment Life #292

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Tuesday the police showed up in my courtyard because their bedroom window was busted out and the screen was torn. I don't know who did it but I didn't see much glass on the outside which leaves me to believe the glass was punched from the outside and fell towards the inside. Maybe someone was trying to break in while they were gone? I'm not sure. The officer stood there and looked like he was taking a report.

So a few weeks ago this guy who lives in my courtyard came up to me while I was walking Falcor and just said, "Wanna F*ck?" I was sure I misheard him so I asked him to repeat what he said and he did. I stopped, looked him up and down, laughed and said no. This man practically ran back to his apartment. I didn't see him for about a week and then when he saw me he would walk back to his apartment. Now he just won't look me in the eye. lol  I mean does that line actually work? Good grief.

He's been acting stranger and stranger lately which leads me to believe either drugs or mental illness. He stood here for about 30 minutes just like this on the rock. He's always wearing over the ear headphones when he's out and he is here too which you might not be able to make out.

The high this week was 80F/26C
The low this week was 43F/6C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Favorite Song of the Week

Pop Evil- Skeletons

I love Pop Evil and since some of the songs I have posted recently seemed to be too hard for some of you, I thought you might like this one better. He has such a great voice and it's nice that he can actually sing. Enjoy.

Freebie Friday!

Welcome to another weekly Freebie Friday post, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.

A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.

You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.

This week I received a sample of

La Roche Posay kids sunscreen.

Hey, I finally received a free sample this week. I'll let my grandson have this one.

Book Review: Death is Easy by Letty Frame

Book Description

When you’ve lost literally everything but your own life, can you learn to be loved or will you give up fighting the negative voice in your head and finally lose yourself completely?

Nora Hart is twenty-four years old, but she’s lost everything, rebuilt her life, fought through grief and worse, all while managing to avoid the shifter world that broke her in the first place.

Despite her near death and struggle for survival all on her own, she’s done quite well and has created a pretty normal life for herself. Despite all that, fate isn’t done messing with her.

Her heart and soul aren’t ready to open up to new mates, and may never be, but fate has brought them into her life anyway, causing her to move across the country as she tries to deny her connections and keep some semblance of the life she’s created.

Not only that, but that little voice in her head begging for death is back stronger than ever, those from her past who broke her down are back for more, and now she’s being hunted by humans out to rid the world of shifters.

Will she be strong enough to get through all of this, to find herself again and have a happy life, or will her struggle finally come to an end?

Death is Easy is the first instalment in the Second Chances trilogy. This series is a medium-burn reverse harem romance, and there is a guaranteed HEA at the end of the third book.

My Review

Nora was so excited when she turned 18 years old and would be able to find her mate. As a shifter their animals know when they find their mates and it's really hard to fight that bond. So when she comes face to face with her destined mate and it's her alpha's son, she's thrilled and for a moment she thinks he is too. But then he rejects her and she's thrown out of her pack and moved to some small town. Even her own family throws her away. It takes a long time for Nora to finally pick up the pieces of her life but when she's through the worst of it, she finds her animal is gone and she can no longer shift.

When her boss gives her a new job in a new place, she doesn't realize at first it's because he's a lion shifter and knows that she is his mate. But because of the hurt she's gone through, she doesn't recognize him as her mate right away. To make matters even stranger, a few other males see her and know right away that she's also their mates. The males will have to find a way to work together to make her realize that she's worthy of a mate and she's not as broken as she thinks she is.

But after starting to have feelings for some of the males and starting to realize that she might be happy with them, her cat decides to show her that she's still there inside her, she's just broken and doesn't see these new males as her mates.

Nora's cat is giving her all kinds of problems once she wakes up from where she's been hiding after they were rejected. This story took a decidedly darker turn towards the end that I wasn't expecting and wasn't sure how this would end. All the new mates in her life did a really good job of taking care of her though. This book was full of surprises as well as alpha males that wanted nothing more than to take care of their mate.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Deliciously Mated by P. Jameson

Book Description

He'll break his clan's oath to protect his mate.

Eagan has discovered a thief at Lake Haven Lodge. She comes in the night taking only what she needs to survive. But, what can he do when he catches her and realizes she's his fated mate? A mate he's pledged to never claim.

She'll do whatever it takes to leave behind the life she had.

Clara is a ghost. She disappeared from her cushy life to live alone with the guilt that plagues her. However, living off the grid has forced her to get creative with her resources. When desperation sets in, the mountain lodge nearby is her saving grace. Until she gets caught by a beast of a man who looks at her like she's his.

Now, Eagan will go against his entire clan to draw Clara out of the woods and into his arms.

My Review

Clara has been living off the land for a few years but she steals some things from people and the lodge she found so she can live. Eagan notices that things are going missing from the lodge and tries to find the thief. She loses her notebook and Eagan realizes that she's keeping track of the things she's been stealing so she can pay them back at some point. So the next time Clara comes to look for her notebook she finds a note from Eagan that he will help her and she finds some food he left for her.

Eagan and his shifter clan have decided to stay celibate because their panther's for the most part won't stay monogamous and they don't want to be responsible for hurting their mates. But one other of their clan have already found their mate and they are staying faithful. So Eagan thinks that he can as well that it's a choice. So he tells his clan leader that he's taking Clara as his mate because he can't live without her and doesn't want to. That causes a lot of friction between he and his leader.

Eagan wants to get to know Clara better and she tells him why she's been living the way she has and it's a heartbreaking story but we can understand her reasoning.

Eagan is just the best hero. I loved him so much. He was so understanding and caring about her situation. She was a very relatable heroine.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Slay by Laurell K. Hamilton

Book Description

Laurell K. Hamilton has captivated readers with her gritty, seductive tales of vampire hunter Anita Blake for thirty bloody fantastic years. Now, in the thirtieth novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, wedding bells are ringing. But before Anita can make it to the altar, she must face an obstacle more daunting than any supernatural threat....

Necromancer Anita Blake is small, dark, and dangerous. Her turf is the city of St. Louis. Her job: U.S. Marshal—Preternatural Branch. She’s faced horrifying monsters and brutal killers and come out the other side still standing.

Considering how things in her life tend to go, Anita never expected her walk down the aisle with Jean-Claude to go smoothly. They’ve already been confronted with naysayers and a power-hungry ancient evil, but now Anita has to do the one thing that actually scares her: introduce her very religious, very human relatives to her fiancĂ©—the newly crowned vampire king of America.

As Anita tries to keep the peace between the family she left behind and the family she’s chosen, dark forces jump at the chance to take advantage of the chaos. With her happy-ever-after at risk and everyone’s immortal souls hanging in the balance, Anita grapples with a hard truth: Blood makes you related, but loyalty makes you family.

My Review

After reading the last book, Smolder, I was hoping that this book would give us a little more insight into the big bad that we met in that book and fortunately we find out who it is and what they want. The big bad being Deimos is behind the attacks on Anita and her people. Anita's family is set to come to town to meet Jean-Claude, be fitted for her wedding and to see if her father will give her away at her wedding since he and the rest of the family are very religious and don't like the fact that she's marrying a vampire. Her father and grandmother were really awful but her father at least seemed to chill out a little by the end of the book. Her grandmother on the other hand was just plain terrible and I can't say one good thing about the woman. Although we did learn a secret about her that was not explored at at. Like, why bring up this big secret if we aren't going to find out more about it? That made no sense.

By the end of this book we were really no closer to the wedding which I was hoping would happen or at least try to happen. But we do find out about the plan that Deimos has hatched and it's a very well thought out one that includes some of Anita and Jean-Claude's people actually betraying them which I found to be exciting when it was revealed who it was. Plus the fact that Deimos is not just a vampire, no he has other abilities which made him a very strong adversary. It was nice to see a big bad be able to over power Anita and some of her people for once because usually she and Jean-Claude are very powerful and they quickly overcome whatever is thrown at them, but not this time and that made this book exciting.

There was a lot of action, danger, and family drama in this book so I was always engaged and excited to see what would happen next. I've been a long time fan of this series and enjoyed this book but am really looking forward to finally seeing Anita and Jean-Claude get married.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Apartment Life # 291

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

I saw this on the sidewalk and thought I had found $40. lol But as soon as I picked it up, I could tell it was counterfeit money. If the feel of it didn't give it away...

The while paper looking middle sure did. It was too think, felt like paper and had a while middle. I will say whoever made this made it look real if you didn't pick it up and feel it. Damn. lol I thought it was my lucky day.

I heard sirens and at first didn't know where they were. But saw people looking into the Cal Ranch parking lot so I walked that way and sure enough there were a few police cars over there. This parking lot is right next door to me.

More police. I think Cal Ranch might have been robbed. But I couldn't find anything on the news about it. So who knows.

---

A neighbor 2 doors from me was locked out of his apartment Thursday night when he got home. I found out that maintenance had come to unclog his sink because he put in a work order. But they said they didn't have a key to his apartment so instead of waiting or making another appointment, they drilled out the lock, changed the lock and when they were done, they locked the door.

Because he wasn't home, they couldn't give him the new key. But they didn't leave a note on his door to let him know. He called the maintenance emergency number at 6pm. He was outside so I heard the conversation when he was on the phone. They apparently told him he would have to wait until the next day to get the new key and that's when he started yelling telling them that they were going to get him in his apartment that night that he wouldn't be sleeping in his car.

He kept calling them back every 15 minutes for 2 hours and they stopped answering his calls. So he started calling every number he could find on Google for this management company and he must have gotten a hold of someone because that person called our manager who called maintenance and they came out 30 minutes later. It took 3 hours for this guy to get back in his apartment. At one point I asked him if he wanted to sit in my apartment but he declined. I also told him he should just break a window and get in that way but he didn't do that. He was big mad though.

The high this week was 80F/26C
The low this week was 49F/9C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

More Halloween Pictures

Since I didn't receive any freebies this week again, I thought I would share some of the Halloween night pictures.

My daughter and son in law took my grandson Trick or Treating and this house was decorated with big skeletons in the yard.

That skeleton standing next to the house is taller than the house.

Creepy.

My grandson looking like a depressed executioner. lol

His Halloween costume was called fade in, fade out executioner because the lights for the eyes faded in and out.

This is cute.

I hope you all had a nice Halloween.

Book Review: Demon Bound by Eve Newton

Book Description

A Seductress Demon, a cute Reaper, a hot Angel & the Devil himself
They are tested to their limits, but will love conquer all?

Imprisoned by the Devil for crimes committed on Earth, I suddenly find myself the center of his attention. He wines and dines me, but something sinister lurks under his intentions.
When the hot Reaper who can't resist me, helps me escape, an intriguing Angel decides to risk everything for me.

Will I manage to flee the pits of Hell with my Reaper to meet the Heavenly creature who claims he can save me? Or will I be stuck in the Devil's idea of happily-ever-after?

My Review

Axelle is a demoness seductress who was on Earth inhabiting the body of a female for too long. Demons are only supposed to inhabit a human body for a couple of months and then move on so the human doesn't start to realize what's going on. Axelle is known for breaking out of hell and coming to the surface a couple of times but the devil himself imprisons her when she is sent back to hell this last time. He doesn't plan on letting her get away again so he keeps her in a cage to teach her a lesson for a while and then he let's her out and gives her a job.  But Luc (Lucifer) starts to show her more attention and Axelle doesn't know what to make of it until he tells her he's picked her for a special task and one where she'll have to get through several trials, each one being the one that could end her existence if she doesn't get through it.

When Axelle finds out what the end result will be after getting through the trials, she's horrified and with the help of an angel and a reaper, she escapes hell once again.

We don't see much of the angel and the reaper isn't very likable but Luc was an interesting character for a while. Until we see what he actually wants and how many demons he's willing to sacrifice to get it. Axelle is not a likable character but yeah, that's because she's a demon and isn't nice. She likes chaos and bloodshed like a good demon would. None of these characters really snagged my attention because they are all so selfish and horrible, only out to get what they want.

But my main problem with this book is how it just ended on a cliffhanger. Yes it's book 1 of a 3 book series but a little closure would have been nice.

I give this book 1 out of 5 stars.

Everyone Has A Story, Here's One of Mine

I've been thinking of writing an autobiography or memoir but it just never comes together for me but I figured if I write one story at a time and post it on my blog maybe once a month, I can do that. Maybe one day I'll pull all the stories together and put them in a book but for now I'll just share some stories with you about my childhood. Some of the stories will be happy, some sad and some horrific because that was my childhood. But they will all be real, things that actually happened. If it seems like something that people enjoy reading maybe I'll keep it going. These stories will not be in any kind of order, I'll just write them as they come to me.

Being known as the girl who fainted on stage in middle school.

Back in the 70's and 80's when I was in elementary and middle school we still did plays for the different holidays where the entire class would be up on stage in the cafeteria or auditorium and we would sing songs for whatever holiday it happened to be. When I was 8 years old and in the 3rd grade, my class practiced for weeks for the Christmas play and we were singing all kinds of Christmas songs for the school and our parents.

The day of the show we all had our costumes on, everyone was packed into the very large cafeteria where the stage was and the large overhead lights were on us so we could be seen better. It was warm and I was nervous with everyone staring at us and my mom being there watching. But we started singing and holding up the different Christmas props that we had to hold up for the different songs and I started to feel weird. Lightheaded and dizzy. The other teachers and the school Principal were in the chairs right in front of the stage and they were pretty close to the front of the stage. In front of us kids on stage was one of those really tall, heavy, metal microphones on a stand that was broadcasting our voices to the speakers in the cafeteria.

I was in the middle of all the kids and just happened to be standing right in front of the microphone so when I fainted, I fell right into it and sent it tumbling over the stage where it hit the Principal right in the head. He ended up having to go to the hospital where he had to get a few stitches in his head. The paramedics checked me out for fainting and my mom was already there in the audience but I was fine. The paramedics said I probably just got over heated which combined with the nervousness caused me to faint.

I was known for years as the girl who fainted on stage. The funny thing is when I was in 8th grade we had a chance to join the school choir and I joined and was in the school choir until the 12th grade. We traveled to Children's hospitals during the Holidays and sang for them. I liked being on stage even after that first incident.

QUESTION: Since it's near the end of the year I thought I would ask if you would like me to continue these posts each month next year? If you find them interesting or like reading them, let me know.

Book Review: The Alien's Allegiance by Calla Zae

Book Description

"She arrived on this new planet with two hot suns, but it was this blue warrior who burned away all her doubts."

As Captain of the Norakian warriors, Kazstrom anticipates the upcoming competition that can promote him to be the next General of his legion. But a poisonous wound threatens to eliminate his dream. The hunt for a cure leads him to Earth, where he encounters an alluring human female who not only possesses the moonstone he desperately needs, but she also ignites something deep within him. Intrigued, he is compelled to protect her from enemies who are after the same moonstone.

Teegan, a second-grade teacher, is drowning in debt and doubt after a failed engagement when a stunning star-being asks her to go to his planet and heal him. With nothing to lose, she decides a mini out-of-this-world adventure with Kazstrom is the exact escape required to alleviate her life’s issues. But her heart has its own plans and tosses her into an escalating romance filled with danger that will leave them both shattered if they are not careful.

As Kazstrom battles his worst enemy to protect his starmate, Teegan must find her warrior spirit to defend the star-being she has come to love.

My Review

Several aliens come into Teegan's shop looking for the stone that she is wearing around her neck in a necklace. Kaz keeps the other aliens away and she agrees to go with him in order to keep her safe. After learning that he was told the moonstone can heal his wound, she tries to help but the moonstone which talks to her at times, doesn't help heal him. Instead the moonstone tells her that there is another way for his wound to be healed and they set off to outer space to find a healer who he thinks might be able to heal the wound. Along the way they encounter some interesting aliens and danger but the romance between them fell kinda flat for me.

The moonstone has its own mission though and uses Teegan and Kaz to get it done but for a good reason. Now this story starts off really good and the story had promise to be really good but after the first couple of chapters is slowed down and the engagement just wasn't there for me anymore. While the ending was good and I liked how it ended, it took a while to get to that point and I found myself bored and putting the book down several times. I'm glad I finished it but it wasn't as good or as entertaining as I had hoped it would be when I first started reading it.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #290

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

Update on my neighbor who had her car towed:

She told me that she hasn't paid rent in 2 months, ever since her car was towed. She said that the manager keeps coming to her door asking her when she's going to pay rent and she keeps telling them she's not until they reimburse her the $800 she paid to get her car out of the towing place. I don't see that happening.

I asked her why she doesn't just register her car and go to DMV and get her own plates? She said because if she did that she would have to take her car to a mechanic so that her car would pass the smog check because it won't right now. And if she did register it she would have to pay each year to get another smog check and if it didn't pass, more work done at the mechanics and pay more money for the registration sticker each year and she doesn't want to pay the money. It's just that simple.

So she would rather steal registration stickers off of other peoples cars and steal a license plate from another car that looks like hers so she doesn't get pulled over while driving. She said if the judge makes her hand over the license plate she has, she'll just get another one. Oh and the manager never came by to do an apartment inspection and no other door locks have been changed. So they gave her a line of bull so they could change her locks.

----

I looked out my bedroom window and saw this woman sitting here right out in the open hitting the crack pipe. I really don't know for sure what kind of drugs she was smoking but probably meth or crack. I took this picture from my bedroom window and you can see she was across the street. I watched for a few minutes because I had a feeling she was going to pass out there on the sidewalk and I was right.

A few minutes later she just sorta fell over. A police car drove right by her and didn't stop. Like I've said before, there's no need to call the police, they won't do anything. She slept there for about 30 minutes.

Then two of her junkie friends came along on their bicycles and woke her up. She was having a really hard time standing up but she did eventually gather her stuff and walk away with them. It's not unusual to see people passed out, high, or doing drugs right out in the open around here. I want to reiterate that I don't take or post pictures of these people to make fun of them but rather to show people what it's like to live around here and what I see on an almost daily basis.

It's not all scary, here's something cute.

Eyeball candle.

Some of the stuff on the shelves light up at night.

My daughter added some lights to some of the shelves.

Years ago when I had rats ( I don't have any rats right now) I may have posed them with some props. This was Lucky.

Book Review: Wyoming Proud by Diana Palmer

Book Description

A sudden romance leads to betrayal and a shocking secret…

It takes one night for Erianne Mitchell to fall heart-first for dashing architect Ty Mosby. They work together and have friends in common—and a searing attraction that seems far too good to last.

But when a devastating mistake tears them apart, Erianne flees to Wyoming with a secret, one she hopes Ty never discovers. She did nothing wrong, and she’ll never ask Ty to forgive her. She'll support herself…and the baby growing inside her. How can she be with a man who doesn’t trust her?

Ty knows exactly what he’s lost and he’ll do anything to beg for her forgiveness and win back her trust. When he finds her, she’s just as proud as he remembers. Is it too late for him to make amends…or is destiny about to test them in an even bigger way?

My Review

This is book 12 in the Wyoming Men series by Diana Palmer and I have been enjoying all of these books. I love the characters, the storylines and how so many people know each other in these small towns. So many of the previous characters seem to pop up in the books and I like being able to see what they've been up to.

Erianne/Erin has been friends with Annie and her brother Ty for a long time. They are like family and Erin has been working for Ty at his company for a long time. When a bid goes wrong and Ty finds out that someone went behind his back and betrayed him, he hires a detective agency to find out who did it. When they tell him it was Erin, he doesn't go digging to see if they were right, he just fires her and tells her not to contact his sister again. That was a little shocking seeing how they have all been friends for so long and he is easily able to believe that she could do that.

Poor Erin has a really hard time of it and Ty just keeps making things harder for her. She loses everything and ends up leaving town to live with a distant cousin when she finds out she's pregnant with Ty's baby. After what he did, I wouldn't have even told my cousin who the father really was because he never would have seen me again. She was down and out and he just kept making things harder for her. I thought this guy was a total jerk for the longest time and smiled when he realized what he lost and how heart broken he was. He deserved that and more, for a longer period of time. I don't see how she'll ever trust him again but she's made of stronger stuff than I am because she loves him even after he hurt her emotionally when she was already hurting.

All these bad things kept happening to Erin and I kept expecting to see her fall apart but she never did, she just took it all in stride and kept going.

There were a few deaths in this book and that was sad to see. But I loved this book and will definitely be reading more of this series when the books come out.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Book Review: Bound By Her Blood by Mara Leigh

Book Description

A newly-turned female vampire joins four hot males with dark secrets to battle an evil vampire king

Book 1 in a fast burn paranormal romance series.

"Unputdownable!"

I was alone as a human, and as a newly-turned vampire I'm trapped and tormented. But I will not give up--I will never give up. And I refuse to let my past define me.

Held in the dungeons of an evil vampire king who's determined to make me his bride, I escape and meet Rock, a protective giant who's hiding dark secrets, and Grayson, a mysterious and handsome vampire.
With their help, I recover, become stronger and I'm introduced to a world of passion and wealth. But my safety is threatened by Colton, a hunky, vampire-killing cop, and I’m pursued by Pike, a terrifying vampire who won't rest until he claims me as his own.

Bound by Her Blood is the first book in a Paranormal Romance series where the heroine has more than one love interest and does not have to choose.

My Review

Selina is a vampire who was held hostage by the vampire king who wanted to make her one of his brides but she wouldn't or couldn't cooperate. It wasn't as easy as just agreeing to do it and when he doesn't get his way, the evil king throws her in the dungeon where she's abused and tortured. If she had been a human, it would have killed her. It was only her vampire healing abilities that saved her from death but that just meant that they could torture her more and for a long time, which they did. The torture was completely over the top and gruesome.

Once she escapes, she runs into Rock who is a gentle giant, not human but he doesn't know what he is. It was a good mystery but one that I wish we had some closure to. Rock has had his own torture in his past and because of that he refuses to have sex. But when Rock offers Selina a safe place to stay because he knows she's in danger, she feels things for Rock and takes it personally that he won't have a sexual relationship with her. She keeps pushing at him which really irritated me. Once he said no, she should have backed off. The fact that she had been sexually abused and then turns around and is really pushy with this guy just made me not like her at all. We are to believe that because of her vampire nature that she really can't help it but if that's true then the vampire characters in this book are going to be less than likeable.

Rock is friends with a few vampires and through them she meets Grayson who is also a vampire. Right from the start Gray and Selina seem to feel something for each other which confuses her and makes her feel guilty because she also feels something for Rock and doesn't want to make him feel bad. But She and Gray can't seem to keep their hands or fangs off each other which makes her feel bad but Rock is happy for them since Gray seems to be able to give her the sexual relationship that he cannot. He still loves her and wants to be in her life but things get complicated.

I was trying to like this story even with the problems that I mentioned but the characters are just not likable. I knew this was going to end on a cliffhanger because of the reviews I read and I could have overlooked that if the story and characters had been better.

I give this book 2 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Dark Prince by Callie Rose

Book Description

My new billionaire boss is hot as sin. He also happens to be the devil himself.

And there’s only one thing he wants…

Me.

I never meant to get caught stealing a priceless artifact from Lucas Hale, Los Angeles’s most notorious playboy billionaire. And I definitely never expected him to offer me a job as a way to pay off my debt.

But if it keeps me out of jail, I can play the role of assistant to this cocky, gorgeous man. It can’t be that hard, right?

Even if the chemistry between us is so intense that just being in the same room with him makes my blood heat.

Even if I accidentally walk in on him “taking care of himself” during my first week in the office… and I swear I hear him groan my name.

Even if I don’t quite understand how he moves so fast when he saves me from a psycho who tries to attack me on the street.

On second thought, maybe I’m in over my head with this new job. Because I’m starting to get the feeling there’s a lot more to Lucas Hale than meets the eye. A darker, more dangerous side of him than anyone knows.

And the most terrifying part?

That’s the side of him that tempts me.

Dark Prince is a steamy paranormal romance where the villain gets the girl. It's the first book in the Chosen by Lucifer trilogy.

My Review

When I saw that this was book 1 in a trilogy I read some of the reviews to see if this would end in a cliffhanger and some reviews said that it did, so I knew that going in and still decided to read it. The premise was just too much fun not to give it a try.

Sophia has to get her sister out of a jam that her jerk of an ex put her in. Her sister is innocent of the crime the gang thinks she is responsible for so Sophia goes to the leader gang member to see what she can do to get her sister out of this jam. All she has to do she's told is steal an artifact from a very wealthy man, a man that Sophia met recently when he saved her life. Should be easy to get in to see him then, right? Stealing the artifact, not so much.

Lucas/Lucifer is a billionaire businessman, he's also a demon, the prince of hell. After he goes against his better judgment and saves Sophia from getting hurt or killed in an accident, he's a little surprised that she comes to see him at work. She thinks she can get away with something that belongs to him but he catches her because she has no idea who he really is. He's so mad that someone tried to steal from him that he almost kills her on the spot but when she tells him she only did it to get her sister out of trouble with some gang members, he tells her he will pay off the gang leader but Sophia has to come work for him as his personal assistant to pay off the debt. It's not like she has a choice.

Lucas is obsessed with her and doesn't know why and he knows she feels kinda the same way about him. So them working closely together is all it takes before they are acting on their feelings. But when someone close to him betrays him in ways he can hardly believe and puts Sophia in danger, she gets more than an eye full of supernaturals. Good grief, this was so good. The twist this took, the different demons and supernaturals that come out of the woodwork was great. The action, danger, romance and steamy, naughty scenes between these two were great. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this trilogy now. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
