Apartment Life #293
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
A couple of police cars were across the street this week. I don't know what they went across the street for but they didn't stay long.
The apartments across the street have had a lot of police activity in recent weeks.
We bought a new couch on Wednesday. My old one was 12 years old and was falling apart. This is so much nicer and more comfortable.
Funny enough, the people who live 2 apartments down and across from me were moving a couch in their living room and accidentally bumped into the wall with it and that's all it took to break the living room window. Maintenance put up a board until they can fix the window. It's $80 for every window they have to replace so that's an expensive accident.

Warning... Porn video sounds. You have to turn the sound up if you want to hear it.
My door slamming neighbor who likes to point his speaker out the door and listen to music was watching porn on Friday and he had his door open. He kept playing the same few minutes over and over and turned it even louder at some parts.
I posted a short video of what I was hearing, over on Twitter but I posted it here as well in case we aren't friends on Twitter.
I'm @scarymary66 on Twitter.

The high this week was 67F/19C
The low this week was 32F/0 C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Freebie Friday!
Welcome to another weekly Freebie Friday post, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.
A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.
You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.
I cashed out my points on Product Report Card for a $30 Amazon gift card.
I didn't receive any free samples this week but I had enough points to cash out for a $30 Amazon gc. So that is great.
If you would like to sign up for the Product Report Card survey site, you can do so here.
It's easy to sign up, take surveys and earn points that you can cash out for giftcards.

Book Review: Best Laid Stones by Kelly Apple
Book Description
Heading into the wilds of Vane’s childhood home sounds all fine and dandy, but Cin has a few reservations. Not about Vane’s plan to visit his old nest, but about Cin being able to properly navigate her way there while her mate and new gargoyle brother are in their daylight sleep.
But things happen for a reason and an unexpected roadside visitor changes everything for Vane and Cin.
Gods speak, curses might be broken, and a world of untapped potential is at their fingertips.
Change is coming and Vane and Cin are on the edge of the wave bringing it in.
Warning: This book contains a berserker-crazed gargoyle who REALLY wants to show his lady what he’s made of. If the forest is rockin’, don’t come knockin’!
My Review
I've only read two books in this series so far but when I saw that this novella was free I got it. I probably should have read the other books before this one first but I was able to follow what happened in this book just fine.
Cin is driving with her mate and another gargoyle in the car. Vane is her mate and he and the other gargoyle are in their stone form when she pulls over to the side of the road for a break. She's driving through the mountains and not sure where she is but when she steps out of the car, she hears a loud scream and then is kidnapped by a female bigfoot who needs her help.
Later Vane is visited by a very old shifter who bestows gifts on him because Cin's love for Vane called to him. I really like the gargoyle's in this series so this novella just makes me want to read more of the books and see what happens next.
This book is short, only 42 pages but I really enjoyed this novella.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Cupid's Enchantment: Anniversary Edition (Naughty Cupid Book 1) by Michelle M. Pillow
Book Description
Contrary to popular belief, Cupid is not a cute little cherub. And he’ll take revenge on any who say differently. Just ask Ilar, Commander of the Lycaon guard…
Lady Rhiannon’s beauty is distracting suitors from her older sister and ruining her chances at marriage, so her father has her locked her away in a tower. Believing she is going crazy from the isolation, Rhiannon hears a frightful voice. The next thing she knows, she wakes up in a strange forest pursued by mythical wolf men. And, worst of all, their leader is taking her home with him.
Ilar is irritated to discover an enchanted female—a human, their ancient hunters—disrupting his Lycan Guards. One sniff of this mortal’s enchantment and the men go insane, trying to kill each other for her hand. Ilar has no choice but to break the spell by claiming the female as his own. But who knows what will happen when Cupid’s Enchantment is broken?
My Review
When the Lycan, Ilar insulted Cupid, he decides to get revenge in what he thinks is the perfect plan. But Cupid isn't a cute little arrow shooting cherub. He's actually a nasty little troll who thinks that the beautiful Rhiannon is the ugliest female he could find. His revenge is to put a love spell on her and make the Lycan's go crazy over her, fighting over her. But the Lycan's can see that she's beautiful and Ilar being in charge has to keep her safe after she is kidnapped and sent to his world with no idea how she got there.
Rhiannon is human and could easily be hurt or killed from the Lycan's so Ilar locks the fighting Lycan's up and keeps Rhiannon sequestered in his room for the most part. While Ilar tries to figure out who she is and how she got there and why his men seem to want her for themselves, he has to spend time with her and they get to know each other which doesn't help keep him from wanting her for himself.
As they get closer to the truth as to who put the spell on her and why, they are falling for each other. I had to wonder if they would still want each other after the spell is broken. There were a few twists in this that made it even more interesting to read. I was happy with the ending. Sure made me think of Cupid in a different way. It was a fun read.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Chosen by the Alien Prince by Kyla Quinn
Book Description
I thought I’d become rent-a-womb for aliens, instead I’m handed to an alien prince. I’ve no idea why because he can’t stand to be alone with me.
I’m abducted by aliens and slung into holding cells with a group of other ‘lucky’ human women, but I don’t have long to figure out what’s happening because I’m taken elsewhere.
To the blue alien prince with a killer body, lethal claws, and horns.
Although he's definitely not horny. This moody and domineering alien refuses to touch me, but also pretends I’m his mate when he takes me around his swanky city. Turns out his parents want a baby blue grandchild and my hot alien prince isn’t the fatherly type.
The more time we spend together, the more I want him to throw me on his inviting bed and do wicked things to me. And I swear he looks at me as if he wants to devour me too—in a good way.
I’m on a countdown. If I don’t get pregnant with the prince’s baby soon, I can kiss my life goodbye. How far is my prince prepared to go to protect the woman the stars fated him to meet?
Chosen by the Alien Prince is a full-length, standalone sci-fi alien romance featuring a brooding, seductive alien who’ll do anything to protect his human mate.
If you love sexy aliens, strong heroines and fated mates romance, you’ll love this new series from Kyla Quinn. No cliffhangers or cheating, and a happily ever after—I promise!
All books in the Fated Star Mates series are standalones featuring different couples. They can be read individually but the series is best read in order.
My Review
This book starts off with Hope and other humans being abducted by aliens. They are taken to the alien planet, experimented on, tested to see if they were breedable. The aliens weren't having as many babies and female babies were rare so they needed to find other females to breed with but instead of going to other planets and making nice and asking for volunteers, they abducted females.
Hope was one of the human females that was abducted and taken to the alien planet. After being tested and implanted with a communication device so she could communicate with the aliens, she was selected to be the female that would breed with the price so his family line could live on. But when Tor first meets her, he's not interested in breeding with a human because he finds her lacking.
Hope doesn't want to have anything to do with Tor either and they both let each other know it. Tor is a seven foot tall, blue skinned alien with horns and a tail. So he intimidating to a small human female but his outright disgust of her at first doesn't go over well with her either. But she has to stay at his home until his mother is satisfied that the breeding between them won't work.
The more time they spend together though, the more they get to know each other. Then Tor realizes that she has something called Sol and that they are true mates and both of their feelings change when they can feel the mate bond between them. Things would have been fine if the government known as the "Regime" hadn't interfered and tried to take over the monarchy.
Tor was the Prince but his mother was the ruler but the regime really interfered and swayed her decisions. Tor hadn't really taken his Prince roll seriously so the regime was easily getting more and more control and power. So by the time he realized what was going on, it was too late for him to do anything about it. I am really looking forward to seeing Tor take back the crown and what will happen next. This is the 3rd book in the series but the first one that I've read. I didn't feel lost at all but I do want to read all the other books now.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #292
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post..
Wednesday morning the police were at the corner apartment building again. There were a bunch of people who didn't live there standing around and hanging out by the apartment doors. I don't know if someone there keeps calling the police or what.
I enlarged the picture so you can see the two police cars that were over there.
-----
This week my daughter noticed something I hadn't over by where a couple of the homeless guys have been sleeping. One of them has a Ninja Turtle in his shopping cart. That's a couple of chairs behind it.
My daughter was walking by and said it looked like the Ninja Turtle was watching her so she took a picture.
It does look like it's keeping an eye on her. lol
-----
Wednesday night I was walking Falcor and he barked at some woman who walked by me. I had him on a short leash and he never got close to her. she walked around the building just so she could walk by me again and walk really close to me. She slowed down so she could scream right in my ear, "Restrain your damn dog" To which I replied, "I did."
I kept walking but had my hand on my taser because when I turned around she was just standing there staring at me. I didn't know if she was going to come hit me or what. But she was mad. Like, really mad that my dog barked at her.
-----
If you read my Sunday post last week you know what a complete idiot the maintenance man is. Monday I put in a work order online for my clogged kitchen sink, he never showed up that day to fix it. So Tuesday morning I look to see if anything has updated about the work order and this motherfarker has updated the work order that he completed the work on Monday when I submitted it.
So I put in another work order and you can see what I said there. I said he never came out, my sink is still clogged and I would hope maintenance would actually come out and do the work today.
I took a screen shot of the work order just in case he tries to change the date or anything. Try and pull a fast one on me. Think again. They never came out to fix it all week. I sent two emails to the manager and no response. I finally got fed up on Friday and called the emergency maintenance number and talked with an actual person. I explained the situation and she sent out 2 different maintenance guys who did finally fix my drain and I didn't have to deal with the idiot maintenance guy from last week.
----
Monday night the police were down at the end apartment in my building but they only stay for a few minutes. No idea why. He has the homeless brother so maybe they were looking for him.
Then late Monday night we heard a bunch of gunshots really close. A few minutes later the police showed up and were shining their flashlights on the ground 2 doors down in the rocks, I am assuming looking for bullet casings (spent shells). They were out there for quite a while but I don't know if they found anything.
----
When I took falcor outside Thursday night, there were three big pitbulls off-leash walking around and one of them aggressively came up to Falcor. I saw the owner standing outside and I yelled at her to get her damn dog but she didn't even move. She did nothing to call her dog back. Thankfully I had my Taser with me set it off in the air for a few seconds that was enough to scare the dog away. Friday morning I called Animal Control to make a complaint and emailed the apartment manager letting them know that they have three big pitbulls in their apartment what they've already been told that they have to get rid of because no dogs over 25 pounds are allowed in this apartment complex. I warned her twice before when this happened and I told her the next time it happened that I would be calling animal control and making a complaint so she's been warned. This really pissed me off I'm glad I didn't have to tase the dog though, the sound was enough scare the dog away which is why I got the taser in the first place so I'm glad it worked.

This week I received:
I received 2 different samples of Color Street nail wraps.
3 bookmarks.
I like the nail wraps but my nails are so thin and bendable that these kinds of things don't really work for me. I usually use press on nails since they are very hard and strong.
Did you receive any freebies this week?

Book Review: Braxx by Cara Bristol
Book Description
She’s given up on love, but this alien hasn’t given up on her…
If there’s anything Holly Hansen has learned it’s that falling for a persuasive charmer is a sure path to a broken heart. It happened when her fiancé abandoned her just when she needed him most. Everything about the smoking-hot alien, Braxx, reminds her of her ex: his good looks, his confidence, his persistence. He won’t take no for an answer and shows up night after night at the restaurant where she works. It’s enough to wear a girl down, make her doubt her convictions, maybe hope that love can conquer the heartbreak of the past…
Dakonian Braxx is a simple man with simple needs: find a good woman and have a big family. With females in short supply on his planet, he heads for Earth through the Intergalactic Dating Agency. The instant he meets Holly Hansen, his horns begin to throb, and he realizes she’s the ONE. His Fated Mate. He can’t wait to settle down with her and make beautiful babies together. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem to recognize they’re meant to be together. But he didn’t come this far to give up easily, and he hopes that with patience and baby steps, he’ll win her heart.
Just when it seems he’ll succeed, Holly’s past comes back to haunt them. Can a heartbreak be too deep for love to fix?
My Review
Braxx is Drakonian and he's among other aliens who came to Earth hoping to find their mates. His planet is very cold after an asteroid hit it and birth rates have dwindled because females are hardly ever born on his planet now. So they had to look to other planets in order to find mates. Our government allows this because they trade an ore only found on their planet that we really want. Braxx knows that Holly is his mate but she's not interested after her ex treated her badly. But Braxx isn't going to give up so easily. So while he gives Holly some time, he becomes a big brother to a little boy, learns our language better and tries to think of ways to win Holly over.
Holly was dumped by her now ex after he found out something about her. But he was a rich, pompous jerk so it was good that she got away from him when she did. But now she's gun shy about relationships and doesn't really think she's worthy of Braxx even though he's made it clear that he wants to get to know her better if she'll only give him a chance.
Once they are thrown together and she see's that he really is a great guy and they start to date, it's only some slight miscommunication that gets in their way but not for long. I've been reading this series and love getting to know all the Drakonian aliens because they are great and want nothing more than to find their mates and make them happy.
There's a bit of a sub plot about the foster care system and how messed up it can be but the ending was really good and made me smile.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Daily Goodie Box - February
The Daily Goodie Box has been around since about July of 2016. I signed up for an account right after I heard about them. They are 100% free, you don't even have to pay for shipping. And for a free box it's a nice sampler box of products.
What was in the box?
Banana Wave - Non-Dairy Banana Milk- This just tasted like banana juice. Not bad at all.
Que Bella - Birch Leaf Ultra Hydrating Face Mask- I've used this brand before and the masks always make my face feel softer.
Genius Gourmet - Keto Snack Chips- They had a pretty good taste to them, so I'll call that a win.
North Coast - Organic Apple Sauce- I haven't had apple sauce in quite a while but this was pretty good.
Bambo Nature - Snuggle Time Body Lotion- I like this lotion. My skin is really dry right now because of the weather and this is a good lotion. I've been using it on my hands. I usually like to have some scent on my lotion but I can understand this being for baby skin why this wouldn't have any.
Paleo Powder - Cauliflower Breadless Breading- I've never tried anything like this before but I used it as a coating on some pork tenderloins in the oven last night and the coating did crisp up and did have an ok flavor to it. I still have enough to try it on other meats as well.
Dejia Harmony - Respiratory Detox Supplement- I think these kinds of products don't really do anything for you. A bunch of herbs has really never made me feel any different and this was no exception. I took this but I felt nothing from it. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.
Neuro - Energy & Focus Mints- These are caffeine mints. I like mints but these were very strong. I took a couple one morning I got up too early and needed a bit of caffeine to wake me up but I didn't feel anything from them. And the flavor was just too much for me.
All they ask you to do is try the products and leave reviews for the products you got in order to be eligible for more Free Goodie Boxes. As you guys already know, I'm a fan of all these types of boxes. I love all the different subscription boxes and it's really nice to be able to try new to me products for free. This is a great box to try for.
Oh and one more thing, if you visit their FB Page, they give away Goodie Boxes to people who interact with their posts. So if you've tried before and weren't able to get a Goodie Box, there's even more ways to get one now.
Have you signed up? Have you received one of these boxes?
I'm a fan of subscription boxes and love trying new products for free so this was a huge hit with me. New products+free box = Fabulous!
Disclosure: I was given and free box in exchange for a review but all opinions are my own.

Apartment Life #291
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life.
I was outside walking the dog at 7am and two police cars pulled up right across the street from me. There's one cop car is closer to me and one is further down the street. They went to the apartments on the corner who seem to be having the police there a lot. There are a lot of people in that building dealing drugs and a lot of the drug addicts and homeless people are hanging out there.
Tuesday morning the maintenance man asked if he could plug his extension cord into an electrical outlet in my bedroom because he was working on cleaning the plumbing in a drain right outside my window. So I plugged it in. But at first it wasn't working and I looked at the plug and pointed out that the prongs were very loose and that's probably why it wasn't working.
Here is the prongs on his extension corn. They were sooo loose. That one on the left just wiggled so much that it was obvious that was the problem and I pointed it out to him twice. He just kept asking me to plug it into a different outlet like I was an idiot and had no idea what I was talking about. I was married to an apartment maintenance man for 30 years. Dude, you need a new extension cord. I know how to plug into an outlet. So after wiggling it a little bit, it started working but I kept an eye on it while he was using it.
He had his snake outside my window and thankfully cleared the drain.
---
While my daughter was sitting outside a neighbor came over and asked if our electric bill had doubled. It has not but apparently hers and another neighbor in the building across from me, theirs has. They have complained to the managers but they won't do anything like have an electrician check out the wires. So she said she was going to hire an electrician and try to have the courts make them take the bill off the rent. I don't see that happening but good luck.
She said her refrigerator wasn't working right and she made a work order but the maintenance guy said it was working good enough. So she hired a refrigerator guy to come fix it and submitted the bill to the manager. She's waiting to see if they will take it off the rent. Again, good luck with that. They are not going to pay for that.
Another neighbor said that they tried to raise her rent before her lease was up in April and she called the corporate office and they told her that the management company could not raise her rent until April. She told them she is retired and has all the time in the world to go sit in court if they try and raise her rent before her lease is up. They fixed it. Her rent won't go up until April.

This week I received:
Biolage Shampoo.
Good Genes lactic acid treatment.
Benefit pore fessional face primer.
Laura Mercier foundation primer.
The Biolage shampoo smells so good. It works great, I mean it's shampoo. You can't really mess that up. lol But the scent is just great.
I haven't tried the lactic acid treatment. Not sure I want to put something on my face with the word 'acid' in it.
The face primers both work great. You put a little on before your foundation. They are supposed to fill in the small lines on your face so that your foundation looks smoother. They do seem to work as well as the others I've tried.

Book Review: Claimed Witch by Lily Winter
Book Description
Something other than a thirst for justice runs in her veins…
The past couple weeks have been rough for Pandora, even for a badass police detective on the fast track for promotion.
First, she’s forced to use her magic to save her grandmother from some goon looking to get on Lucifer’s good side. But is Grandma grateful? Nooo, all Pandora gets is a lecture about how she should keep her head down and act “normal”.

As Pandora and Atieno investigate a string of bodies turning up without a mark on them—but definitely not dead of natural causes—she’s having trouble resisting the heat building between them. But when push comes to hellfire, she doesn’t hesitate to make a choice that will change everything.
My Review

But they have to work together to stop the killer from killing an
While Pandora and Atieno are working together they get to know each other and get closer. They made a great couple and I really liked how he was with her. I wasn't sure about him but he turned out to be a great guy. Pandora gets to know her family after she finally accepts the fact that Lucifer is her father and secrets surrounding her birth are revealed to her. I'm really enjoying this series so far.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: The Bargain by Delta James
Book Description
The Devil knows ... when his mate is lying
I thought I could betray the Devil of Galway. I was wrong.
For two years I was undercover as the lover of the most powerful man in Ireland. The night my betrayal became known he believed I died.
Now I’m back and I need his help. I thought I could make a deal with the Devil. I should have known better.
My bargain with the Devil will cost me everything.
The Bargain is a enemies to lovers romance with steamy heat in and out of the bedroom for mature readers only. Contains a woman who has nothing left to lose and the only person who can help her... the ruthless man she betrayed years prior.
My Review
Con is the head of the O'Neill crime syndicate which was the Irish mob. He's also a panther shifter. He wasn't a nice guy but he had found what he thought was a kind of happiness with Moira/Katherine when he found her and realized she was his mate. But it wasn't to be because she was an undercover cop and for a while he believed that she had died...until she showed back up at a bed and breakfast and waited for him to come find her because she needed his help.
Katherine goes looking for help because her sister Christie has been kidnapped. Her sister is a nun and was teaching women of a village to read when someone kidnapped her. When her boss and the church aren't able to help her, she decides to reach out to Con, not knowing whether he'll help or kill her on the spot for betraying him.
After spending time in the witness protection agency after she had to fake her death because Con had been able to escape the charges she helped to bring against him, she thought she was free of him even though she missed him. But he agrees to help rescue her sister but she has to agree to be his wife, submissive and sign her life over to him. He's a Dom and he's mad and hurt because of how she betrayed him but now he has her and he won't be letting her ever go and she's signed a contract acknowledging that she now belongs to him.
When someone comes after Con and they find themselves in danger, they both realize just how much they care about each other. The ending was really good and I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. Con turned out to be a great guy in his own way.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #290
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life.
The guy who lives at the end of my building had his living room window cracked again. He put duct tape over it. He's the one with the homeless brother who sometimes sleeps in the corner outside his apartment door. His window has been broken so many times from the homeless brother who will come by and ask for money and then bust the window when he doesn't get any. The guy that lives there used to have another brother who lived with him but he passed away a couple of months back. The window was fixed by maintenance after a few days.
A few days later that same guy's bedroom window was busted out. I've seen the homeless brother sleeping in the corner by his door a few times.
I enlarged it so you can see it better. He covers his bedroom window with aluminum foil to keep the sun out and he has a vent on the right hand side for a portable air conditioner. But where you see the cardboard and duct tape is where the glass is missing and cracked. It costs him $80 every time he has to have maintenance replace the windows and it's happened so many times.

Yesterday afternoon I saw someone standing outside my window which the curtains were open, so I look out and this jerk is picking up my chair that is sitting outside my door. I rushed over to the door and say, "Uh, what the hell are you doing?"
He says, "I need this chair for a little while."
I told him, "No, you can put my chair down and leave it the hell alone."
He put it down and I watched him walk away.
My grandson asked me, "Did someone just try to steal our chair?: lol Yeah kid, they did.
I am so tired of these crackheads stealing my shit. We've had a couple of packages stolen recently. You can't leave anything outside, one of my daughter's plants was even stolen.
The high this week was 64F/17C
The low this week was 33F/0 C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
