Book Review: Wolf in the Night by N.J. Walters
Book Description
Driving home from a trip, Emma Matheson is run off the road in an abduction attempt. Seems the alpha of her father’s former pack never forgave his defection. To settle the old score, he plans to force her to mate with a male of his choosing—his son, Dmitri.
Dmitri Gribkov wants no part of his father’s revenge. A loner by choice, nothing has prepared him for sexy, stubborn Emma. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect her—even if it means losing her.
Determined to control her destiny, she does her best to escape, even as the attraction between her and Dmitri sizzles. Doesn’t take long for her to realize this huge, sexy wolf is a protector at heart.
Tracking and killing are what he does best. Before this is over, he’ll have blood on his hands, but winning her love will be the hardest battle.
My Review
Dmitri and Emma meet right after she is driven off the road by another car. The men who get out of the car are from her father's old pack and their alpha has sent them to kidnap her and bring her back so she can mate with his son, Dmitri. But Dmitri doesn't want this and has been tracking these wolf shifters to stop whatever his father sent them to do. He doesn't even realize that Emma is also a wolf shifter right away but he knows he has to save her and stop the men.
Dmitri gets Emma into his truck and takes off while the other wolves are in hot pursuit but they get a bit of a head start. Emma isn't sure if she can trust him and when he tells her who he is, she's even less likely to trust him. She tries to flee when the timing is right but he's able to catch her and bring her back fairly easy. it takes a while before Emma starts to believe that he's trying to save her and not bring her back to his father. Emma convinces Dmitri to let her call her father and the alpha of her pack and they tell her and Dmitri that they should head there to them. But Dmitri isn't sure it's a good idea, not knowing if they can win in a fight against his father and the pack of guys he has. Plus he's not sure her pack will trust him enough to give him a chance and he's not leaving Emma now that he knows she's his mate. The pull and the attraction between them is off the charts and he's not giving her up without a fight.
Her father and the alpha are skeptical of him at first but he proves to them that he's who he says he is and cares about Emma. There's a huge fight when Dmitri's father thinks he can overpower not only his son but Emma's pack. I had a great time with this book.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Disclosure: I was given a free e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Apartment Life #311
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
These two people were sitting on the sidewalk right outside my window smoking on the crack pipe Monday evening. The dude passed out but she kept still hitting the crack pipe. I should say they were smoking from a glass pipe that is a lot of times used for meth and crack but as someone pointed out to me that other drugs can be smoked from the glass pipes as well. Since the guy passed out and meth and crack are both stimulants, it stands to reason that they were either smoking some other drug or he overdosed and it had the opposite effect on him.
I looked outside about an hour later to see if they were still there and she had left but he was still there passed out on the sidewalk. It was about 105F/40c at that time and he had on a jacket so I was a little worried about him. I called 911 and had medics come check him out. Just wanted to make sure he wasn't dead or overdosed on drugs. They woke him up, checked him out and let him go. I would have felt bad if I did nothing and he was dead or sick or something.
---
So if you look really hard you might be able to make out the tire and small amount of the police car on the right side of this palm tree. LOL
The tree was in the way when I was trying to take a picture from my window. But the police showed up in my courtyard when my neighbors daughter and son in law were at her apartment and they started fighting. The police said it was mutual combat but neither of them wanted to press charges on the other and the police left. I'm really surprised they didn't both go to jail for mutual combat because I've seen that happen a few times around here.
---
There was a woman in the pool courtyard where the bank of mailboxes are that came out and started yelling at my daughter. She said for her to tell her mother (me) to stop breaking into the pool with all the drug addicts and let her dogs go swimming.
I promise you it wasn't me. LOL
So my daughter asked her what the lady looked like and it turned out she was talking about drug dealer's wife! LOL
So my daughter told her it wasn't me and told her what I look like. So it turns out that the lock on the swimming pool is broken and drug dealer's wife has been taking her houseful of druggies out to the pool mostly at night when maintenance is gone after 5pm and she's letting the 3 dogs that are also living in her place in the pool too and it's pissing off the people in the pool courtyard.
The high this week was 108F/42C
The low this week was 78F/25C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Favorite Song of the Week
I heard Visions of Atlantis for the first time this week and really liked this song. I think it's because they reminded me of what Nightwish sounded like back when Tarja was still with them.

Freebie Friday!
Welcome to another weekly Freebie Friday post, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.
A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.
You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.
This week I received:
A box of LED lightbulbs.
A insulated mug with lid.
I can always use more lightbulbs. I actually only had one lightbulb in my bedroom ceiling fan and needed more so this came in handy.
The insulated mug is good for both hot and cold beverages and keeps your beverage hot or cold for hours. I poured some hot coffee in this mug, put the lid on and 2 hours later it was still really warm. That never happens with my regular mugs. I love this.
I received both items from Walmart Spark Reviewer which is by invitation only so I cannot give you a link to sign up.
Did you receive any freebies this week?

Book Review: Wickedest Witch by Eve Langlais
Book Description
Thank you for engaging the services of Wicked Incorporated, where the insults are given for free.
Evangeline is not a very nice witch, and she’s not afraid to show it. Her ruthless nature comes in handy as a problem solver until she lands a job where she’s forced to work with an uncouth shifter. He’s rude, cocky, totally unsuitable, not to mention part animal, but despite it all, she can’t help craving his touch.
Ryker is big, bad, and brash. When he’s partnered with a curvy witch, he does everything in his power to fight her allure. And fails. But he’s not too disappointed as he discovers wickedness has its uses, especially in the bedroom.
Vampires, a wedding from hell, and a cackling boss named Rumpelstiltskin make this an adventure packed, humorous paranormal romance sure to make you smile.
My Review
Ryker and Evangeline (Eva) get hired by Rumpelstiltskin to be body guards for his daughter at a wedding. Just so happens the wedding is for Evangeline's sister who is marrying the son of the Devil. Rumple says that he thinks his ex wife is going to try and kidnap his daughter and when that turns out not to be the case he has other things he thinks might happen but he's not sure which one of the scenarios is going to happen so Eva and Ryker have to investigate and be on the lookout for different things that might happen.
Eva is known as the wickedest witch and because of some of the things she's done, people are afraid of her but not Ryker. Her magic doesn't work on him because she's a shifter. The pull they both feel made it funny to watch them both try to work and not give in to their lust. It doesn't last long because he's sure that she's his mate and he wants her badly. But she's feeling that pull to be with him too. Ryker's mother wants him to find a nice shifter female to settle down with and carry on the family so she's not happy when she finds out he's sniffing after a witch. But Eva has no problem living up to her name and teaching his mother to keep her opinions to herself.
It was fun to finally see what Rumplestiltskin was worried about and what was really going on. I liked the ending and plan on reading the first book in this series now.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Untamed Instinct by Tamsin Ley and Aurora Shifters
Book Description
An outcast from his pack
Born to a family of wolves, mountain lion shifter Adrian Stone has never fit into the shifter community. He's resolved to live out his days alone, prowling the Alaskan wilderness and hunting down rogues. When he rescues a stunning, determined human who smells like catnip and makes his inner animal purr, he's shocked, because his mountain lion insists she's his mate - even though she claims to be a witch...
A witch without magic
Darcy Mae is determined to join her aunt's coven and make up for her mother's mistakes. All she needs is one more ingredient for a potion to cheat the coven's test. But a grizzly attacks her while she's searching for herbs, and her mountain lion rescuer transforms into a man with rock-hard abs and golden eyes she can't resist...
Witches and shifters never mix, and Darcy is terrified the coven will drive her away. But the coven isn't her only concern. The local shifters believe the rogue outbreak is due to witchcraft.
And Darcy is the perfect target.
Reader note: A reclusive shifter, a wanna-be witch, and a whole lot of hot and steamy purring. Intended for mature audiences.
My Review
Adrian and Darcy meet while she's in the wilderness picking herbs for a potion she's wanting to make to trick the coven into thinking she can be what they want. But she gets attacked by a bear shifter and Adrian comes to her rescue. Adrian has to kill the bear because it's a rogue shifter that is sick and went after a human, it's what he does.
Adrian brings Darcy home because she's twisted her ankle but otherwise is fine. He checks on her later and brings her the herbs that she was looking for because his mountain lion keeps telling him that she's their mate. He's a shifter and she's a witch so he's not sure how they could be mates and he doesn't have a pack because he likes to be alone. He and his family don't talk because they are a different shifter than he is and they sent him away when he was younger.
There are some rogue shifters making problems and they think witches are to blame for the problems. So because Darcy isn't a very powerful witch and she was there when Adrian killed the bear shifter they seem to blame her for what's happening. There's some danger for both her and Adrian and he decides to go home and talk with his family for the first time in a long time which I really liked because they needed to talk after everything that happened. His family are a pack of wolf shifters but because of some mixed breeding in his family's past he was born a mountain lion and they tried to help him but he thought they wanted to get rid of him. It was interesting to read how he came to be in a pack of wolves.
I liked the ending and plan on reading more of this series.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Cowboy Wolf Outlaw by Kait Ballenger
Book Description
Grey Wolf assassin Malcolm Grey is set on revenge, and no one can stand in his way. With the pack facing their most challenging battle yet, his mission is simple: locate the perpetrators and destroy them. Malcolm will do anything to keep his pack safe, especially when sassy, southern belle Trixie Beauregard makes a proposal he can't resist.
Trixie knows a few things about the dangerous cowboy sitting at her bar. One, he's a wolf shifter. Two, his wolf pack is in jeopardy. And three, despite all his growling, this dark-eyed cowboy wolf wants her. But Trixie has problems of her own, and she knows better than to run with the wolf. The smart thing to do would be to stay away. Too bad she's always had a taste for trouble...
My Review
Malcolm is a wolf shifter and executioner for his pack. He just lost his mate, Bo and is still grieving. Malcolm is also bisexual which makes sense later on when we realize why he's so antagonistic towards Trixie in the beginning because he feels something for her. But the way he treats her got on my nerves more than once. Trixie is a witch and a bartender but Malcolm pretty much sees her as a human since she's not a shifter and he doesn't want to get involved with a human, so his feelings are being pulled in several different directions.
When Trixie overhears a plot against Malcom's pack, she goes to him and tells him what she heard and asks for his help since she's now in danger. Trixie's boss has something over her and uses it to his advantage. There's much action as the vampires are out to get Malcolm's pack and they have to find a way to win the fight.
I've been reading this series for a while and liked this book but even though you could read this as a standalone, it would make much more sense to read the series in order because there are so many characters and storylines going on. I liked this story but the romance fell short for me. Trixie was great but Malcolm didn't feel like he really wanted to be with her and it showed but for a fated mates story, Malcom's attitude was less than thrilling for most of the book.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Apartment Life #310
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life.
Last week I told you about people crawling into the drainage tunnel. I thought I would post an article I read a while back about the tunnels under Las Vegas. This way you can see some of the tunnels I was talking about. It's not just the sewer tunnels but also the wash tunnels that were built to catch the water when we get flash floods and tunnel it away from the streets that used to get super flooded before we had the wash tunnels.
----
Wednesday morning around 6am, I was walking Falcor and spotted this gun on the garbage can. I didn't touch it but it sure looked real enough. I went back out just a little while later to bring it in and call the cops but it was already gone. I wanted to get a plastic bag to wrap it in so I wouldn't touch it but it was gone.
---
I found out that drug dealer is in jail and will be there until at least August. I didn't see the arrest but one of my neighbors told me it happened. You may remember this post from a month ago where drug dealer's apartment was raided. I found out that one of the druggies that drug dealer was messing around with went to jail and she got mad when drug dealer wouldn't bail her out so she snitched on him and told police that he had a bunch of drugs in his apartment. I was wrong to assume that they didn't find any drugs that night because they did but they didn't make an arrest until recently. That's what drug dealer is in jail for right now.
My neighbor who is friends with drug dealer's wife told me that the wife has let 4 druggies move into the apartment with her while her husband is in jail. One of the guys that she let move in is a guy she's fooling around with. Sure sounds like they have a good marriage *eye/roll* since each of them are messing around with other people. So there has been a crap ton of traffic down at that apartment. I walked by yesterday and could see 8 people *all druggies* sitting on the floor in the living room. With that many people coming and going from there I just know there's going to be some trouble breaking out at some point so I'm watching for it.
The high this week was 105F/40C
The low this week was 77F/25C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

This week I received:
Replica perfume sample.
Paint chip color samples.
Vaginal Contraceptive film birth control.
Plant Boss plant taco mix.
Replica perfume does not smell good. I didn't like the scent at all.
I will be using the paint color samples in my scrapbooking somehow.
I gave the birth control film to my daughter.
The imitation taco meat was not good. It was so spicy. It had the texture of meat but the only flavor it had was spicy. It was too hot to eat. I've had this happen with some other meat substitutions too. They must think that if it's so spicy and hot that you can't feel your tongue and lips that you will forget that it's not real meat.

Review: Walmart beauty Box- June
The Walmart Beauty box is a subscription box that comes out 4 times a year. You sign up for it and it comes automatically every 3 months. They did increase the price of the box a little bit. So instead of $5 it's just a couple of dollars more. These boxes are free and you just pay for tax for shipping, mine came to $7.48.
What was in the box?
Liquid IV: Hydration Multiplier
Invisibobble: Original Traceless Hair Ring
Bliss: Block Star Invisible Daily Moisturizer SPF 30
Sagely Naturals: Pain Relief Cream
Suave: Up The Volume Sulfate-free Shampoo and Conditioner Samples
Cetaphil: Gentle Skin Cleanser
I really liked the shampoo, conditioner, cleanser and daily moisturizer. All great products.
I don't like the taste of the Liquid IV hydration mix. It's not good tasting. So many boxes have been adding this and it's just not good.
The pain relief cream did nothing for the pain I have in my knee's and hips. Big surprise there. I haven't found a pain cream yet that does.
I tossed those hair ties right in the garbage. I have tried them in the past and they might work for shorter hair but they just get stuck in my long hair and pull my hair out. I don't know anyone that uses them because they are awful.
So it was just an ok box for me this time. Too many one time samples and not enough actual full size or bigger products. But for the price I'll keep getting it.

Book Review: To Love A Wolf by Paige Tyler
Book Description
He's a werewolf
She's his mate
Her family would kill to keep them apart
A wolf in Landry Cooper's position doesn't really do the dating scene-there's simply no time when he's taking out bad guys practically every day of the week. But when he meets beautiful Everly Danu during a bank robbery, he's sure she's The One for him. The problem: she has no idea what Cooper really is...until his secret is exposed and she discovers the man she thought she knew is a monster in disguise.
My Review
Everly finds herself in danger while working a a bank teller. But Cooper is in line and is a SWAT member and also a werewolf so he can sense that something bad is about to go down. Cooper is attracted to Everly right away and has an overpowering urge to keep her safe so when the bank robbers try to use Everly as a hostage, putting her in even more danger, Cooper let's his inner wolf come forward enough to stop the robbers. But just because he didn't transform completely doesn't mean that him being able to throw a fully grown human through a window will go unnoticed by his superiors.
Since Everly also feels a pull towards Copper, when they decide to start dating, the pull for both of them is very strong. It's not long before Everly wants to bring Cooper over to meet her father and brother's. We learn that Everly's mother was killed by someone when Everly was just a child. Things seem to be going really well and her family seemed to like him and then the next minute, out of nowhere they want her to stop seeing him. It was pretty easy for me to see what happened to make them feel that way but Everly was clueless and so was Cooper until the brother's let him know what's going on.
All the while the family drama is making it hard for Cooper and Everly to see each other, there's also someone making bombs and setting them off. Swat is hot on the trail on the bomber and there's a great twist with this storyline.
I enjoyed this book very much.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Tempted By Fate by Cynthia Eden
Book Description
You can’t cheat Fate…and for the record, she really doesn’t like it when you betray her, either.
Leo is used to having power. After all, he carries the title Lord of the Light for a reason—he’s a supernatural powerhouse and his job is protect all of the “light” paranormals in the world. He’s used to snapping his fingers and getting anything—or anyone—he wants. But when he fell for Fate, Leo learned that power didn’t get a man everything. In fact, it didn’t even get him the one woman he wanted most…
Fate…AKA Mora (that’s the name she prefers to use—a lot less weighty on her shoulders) has spent centuries hiding from her supernatural ex-lover Leo. Most people fear Leo and rightly so. He’s got immense power and a definite date with an unfortunate end-of-the-world calamity. When Leo seduced Mora and promised to put the world at her feet, she actually thought the guy had fallen for her. Too late, she discovered he was just using her in an attempt to change his destiny.
And Leo’s destiny? It’s not pretty. Some very, very bad things are coming for him. Mora shouldn’t care about the danger he faces. She should turn her back on her ex. His heart is ice cold, she knows that, but her own heart…it’s still a little weak where Leo is concerned.
Leo has tried to walk on the side of good for a long time…but his sins are coming back to haunt him. A darkness is trying to consume him, and if Mora can’t help him…then it’s not just Leo who will pay the price for his past. The whole world will change.
You think you know the Lord of the Light? Think again.
My Review
Mora (Fate) has been hiding from Leo after he left her heartbroken but even worst, he left her in danger. So she's been cloaked against him being able to find her for centuries because she doesn't trust him and doesn't want to see him again. She has a bar called Resurrection and is happy with her life for the most part. So when Leo finds her, she's shocked and not happy about it but there's something different about Leo and he wants to prove to her that he loves her and wants her back.
Leo has spent centuries trying to find the only woman he's ever truly loved. The fact that he's been without her for centuries has taken a toll on him. Leo is the lord of the light and he has a twin brother, Luke who is the lord of the dark and they know their fate is to fight to the death at some point. Leo wants Mora to scry his future again and find out if anything has changed because he doesn't want to fight his brother.
When Mora finds herself in danger again and Leo finally is told what all happened to her the last time he left, he's so shocked and sick about it that I thought he was going to flip out. He has a dragon inside him that he hardly ever let's out because when he let's go that much he's capable of really hurting or killing people and he doesn't want to do that.
Mora ends up giving Leo a second chance and we see Luke and Leo actually getting along somewhat. As the story nears the end we find out that someone has been betraying Leo for a really long time and we find out why. The twists at the end of this book really set this up for a great ending. I don't want to go into too much detail because I don't want to give too much away but this was a great book.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #309
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life.
I hadn't heard anything outside but I look out my bedroom window every so often and just happened to see this police car right in front of my window. I don't know why I find it so funny that they will park right here so often. But it makes it easy for me to get a picture.
And it was for my courtyard this time. The police were at drug dealer's apartment again. They banged on the door for a few minutes before anyone opened the door. They were probably hiding all the drugs. The police talked through the screen door for a few minutes and then went inside the apartment where they stayed for about 30 minutes. I thought for sure someone was going to go to jail but the police came out and left. Unbelievable.
----
Another neighbor moved out this week. That makes 3 vacant apartments in my courtyard. So now there's 3 chances that we'll get some noisy, obnoxious neighbors. My daughter was talking to this lady the night before she moved out and she offered my daughter and her boyfriend who were sitting outside, a shot of tequila or a beer but she said she couldn't drink with them because she's on a lifetime probation. She said she spent 13 years in prison and is now on probation for the rest of her life. I was really surprised because she's so nice, quiet and never has anything going on at her place. She must have done something major for that kind of sentence and probation.
---
This heavy metal grate covers the storm drain pipe. The pipes are anywhere from 3 to 5 feet in diameter and they lead to the sewer. I took this picture after I watched one of the homeless people leave drug dealer's apartment, walk over to the metal grate, pry it part way off because it's heavy and then jump down into the hole which is a couple of feet down and scurry into the large drain pipe. Dude must have thought he was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Master Splinter will be very upset at the uninvited house guest.
I know some of these pipes are even bigger in diameter because my husband, daughter and my daughter's friends used to take flashlights when they washes and drain pipes around here were being dug and installed and would walk for miles through them. There's quite a few people that live down in the sewer too. They have to be careful during monsoon season because the rain water will rush through the washes and drag anyone down there along with it. It's not safe.
I watched someone pull the grate completely off the other day and also go down the storm drain pipe. It's really hot so maybe that's why they are taking shelter down there. I took this picture so you can get a better idea how big the pipe is.
---
I was outside with Falcor one day and the FedEx delivery guy came in my courtyard with a package for the apartment directly across from drug dealer's apartment. The wife came running out screaming at the FedEx guy asking if that package was for her. He said no and she chased the guy right past me screaming at him that she has a package too. He told her he didn't have a package for her, jumped in his truck and drove off. She came walking back past me saying that the package was probably for her. It was a long skinny package so I asked her if she was expecting something long and skinny. She said no, but it's probably for me. I stood outside watching her because she was just standing at her door looking at the package and I knew she was going to steal it but not with me standing there watching her. But her plans were foiled when yet another delivery man came to the other door with another package but this guy stood at the door knocking until they answered so they got both their packages. She looked pissed about it too. She went back into her apartment and slammed the screen door.

But first they'll have to stop arguing long enough to trust the Deep Ops team. Hunter was a lost boy himself once. In fact, he ran away from the exact same man, their monster of a father. Now he and Faye will have to unite to find the brother he never knew--and maybe each other . . .
My Review
Faye, Hunter and Raider were all in Miss A's (Miss Angelina's) foster home as kids. They became friends and are still friends now years later. Hunter and Faye were an item for a while but broke up years ago. But when Miss A sends Faye to tell Hunter that one of her newest foster kids has gone missing and is probably his half brother, Hunter has no choice but to help Faye find the kid. And we see right away that Faye and Hunter still have feelings for each other. When Hunter calls Raider and asks for his help, he's all in as well. Raider is working for a secretive Deep Ops team though and neither Hunter not Faye know anything about what he does. Raider shows up with a colleague named Wolfe from the Deep Ops team they both work for.
Jackson, the foster kid who ran away with a crazy woman, Louise is in big trouble and danger since the crazy woman he's running with has killed people as she's robbing convenience store and now they're both on the run. The danger really kicks it up a notch when police and bounty hunters join in the hunt for Jackson and the Louise. The Deep Ops team dog, Roscoe is so strange and has a penchant for alcohol. He was funny though, I would love to see more of the dog.
Hunter and Jackson's father really sounds like a piece of work and should have been given a little payback for the way he treated his kids. Poor Jackson is all messed up because of his father. Jackson didn't realize exactly what Louise was doing and Hunter calls his a couple of times to talk to him but Jackson doesn't trust Hunter because they didn't know the other even existed until now. But Hunter is trying to help Jackson if only he'll let him.
I've only read a couple of the books in this series and am totally reading them out of order but they are standalone books so I've been able to do that no problem. I really enjoyed this book and recommend the series.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
