Review: Dead of Night by Emily Goodwin

Book Description

Never trust a vampire.

I might have learned that lesson the hard way. But when I find myself in a vampire-owned bar, I don’t have much of a choice. With vampires still trying to assimilate into mainstream society, I’ve done Lucas King a favor by stopping one of his patrons from draining a human dry in the basement of his bar. A favor he'd prefer to repay in bed than in kind.

Vampires and witches have had more than a jaded history, and when witches start showing up dead in surrounding covens, all signs point to something old and powerful. Something that knows the ways of the witches.

Something--or someone--like Lucas.

What's worse than trusting a vampire? Falling in love with one.

Dead of Night a vampire/witch romance and is book one in the Thorne Hill series.

My Review
Callie ends up stopping a vampire from maybe killing a human by a bar but when Lucas comes out to see what's going on, Callie thinks she's going to have to fight three vampires instead of jut the one. So when Lucas offers to take her home because she's had too much to drink, she's not sure what to think but she let's him take her home.

Lucas is sixteen hundred years old and it's been a long time since someone has surprised him or made him feel anything new and with Callie he's feeling something.

When Callie realizes that someone is stalking her she's gonna need help from not only other witch's but from Lucas as well. Lucas doesn't mind though because he seems a little infatuated with her. But when witches start getting murdered and it looks like a vampire might be doing it, Callie has doubts about her new boyfriend. He's old and powerful enough to be able to take out a powerful witch. She just hopes that he isn't the one she might have to kill.

While the main mystery is solved and the demon that was chasing Callie and the other witches is gone, a lot of other questions are raised and not answered. So while the main mystery is concluded I can't really call this ending a cliffhanger since it appears the story will continue to the next book. So hopefully we get more answers in the next book. But I really liked Lucas and Callie, they might be totally opposites but they really fit together nicely. Lucas is such a nice guy, and Callie is a strong woman which I loved.

I loved that Callie and her friend owned a book store with a lot of romance books it in. She said she liked romance because of the HEA (Happily Ever After) in them because real life is rarely that way. She'd had a rough life especially since she was the only one in her family to have witch powers and they hated her for that.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Freebie Friday!

Welcome to another weekly Freebie Friday post, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.

A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.

You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.

This week I received:

Bulgari perfume sample.
Michael Kors perfume sample.
SkinCeuticals face cream.
Loreal Paris Genifique face and eye creams samples.
A Sam's Club Health & Wellness Box with Dove men body wash, Degree for men deodorant spray, a water bottle and a hand towel.

The perfume samples are great. Both smelled really good.

The face creams works great at moisturizers. Other than that I really don't see much difference.

I like the water bottle and can always use a hand towel. I will use the men's body wash since it smells good and I'll be giving the men's deodorant to someone else.

Did you receive any freebies this week?

Review: Blue Moon by Lisa Kessler

Book Description

She's his muse, his mate, and she's completely off-limits.

He's a jerk, a recluse, and her newest assignment.

Until he broke her heart, Vivianna Lopez loved Logan Reynolds.
Five years later, she's an aspiring music journalist and he's the camera-shy lead singer of Logan and the Howlers.

Armed with a backstage pass, Vivi's back in her hometown of Reno, nestled in the shadows of the Sierra Nevada mountains. She must score an interview with Logan to land her dream job - otherwise it's back to Boston, with no scoop and no job. It's just business-at least that's what she keeps telling herself.

Logan still loves Vivi, his soul mate, but there's something even she doesn't know about him: He turns into a werewolf every full moon and a secret organization is hunting down his Pack.

Vivi may not have Logan's senses, but she can sniff out that he's hiding something. He knows it's only a matter of time before the truth about him - and his Pack - is revealed.

And then he really will lose her.

My Review

Vivi was still in love with Logan even though he hurt her feelings 5 years before when he left her. Logan was still in love with Vivi but he thought she would be better off without him because he is a wolf shifter. Vivi has no idea why he decided to leave but she needs to get an interview with him now since he's a famous rocker and his band is really popular. Vivi is a journalist and wants to make a name for herself with a popular magazine and getting this interview could do that for her.

Once they see each other, the old feelings pop back up but Vivi also hates him for how he left things and how he makes her feel. So she goes looking into another story that could potentially be dangerous. A scoop on a story about a government contractor and top secret defense contracts. But Damien Severino is where her story leads her and he wants the world to know that shifters exist.

Because of Damian, Vivi and Logan finds themselves in danger more than once. But Vivi is determined to help Logan who she now knows is a wolf shifter. The wolves don't want the world to know that shifters exist. They've done everything in their power to make sure they stay a secret.

The romance between these two is so sweet because they never stopped caring about each other. Vivi is a strong woman and I liked that she didn't let him get away with leaving her and hurting her. She made sure he knew that he made the wrong choice and that she wasn't going to trust him right away again. But I think she understood more when she found out what he was and why he thought he had to leave her, it just kind of made more sense to her.

I loved Logan's pack and thought the characters were great. I love this series even though it's taken me a while to get back to it.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Review: SkinChemists Purifying Anti-oxidising Day Moisturizer and Rose Quartz Mineral Day Moisturizer

I tried the purifying day moisturizer and really like it. It's supposed to help keep your face from getting oily during the day and I think it did actually help a little. It's not oily at all, blended into my skin really easily and smells slightly of grapefruit which I really like. I really like a nice light-weight moisturizer that I can use everyday and this is definitely one of those.

If you'd like to check out this product or some of their other products, you can find them here

I also got this Rose Quartz Mineral Day Moisturizer. It smells like roses and if you've been reading my blog for long you know how much I love the scent of roses. I used this for 5 days before writing this review and love this moisturizer. It's light weight, blends into the skin and leaves a beautiful light rose scent on the skin. It's a really nice moisturizer that I keep going back to. It wears well under my makeup and isn't greasy at all. Check this and other products out at the SkinChemists site

Review: Alien Protector: A Sci-Fi Alien Romance by Sue Mercury

Book Description

The little human is his perfect mate.
She just doesn't know it yet.

When Deza rescues a human female in peril, it's love at first sight and he immediately announces his desire to mate with her. The only problem? Annika refuses to mate with an alien she's only known for five seconds. Not easily deterred, he sets about wooing the adorable little human, eager to win her affections and finally claim her as his mate.

Annika plans to return to Earth ASAP and can't allow herself to develop feelings for the hunky Vaxxlian who saved her life...even if he is the hottest, kindest, and dreamiest alien male she's ever met. Despite her hesitation, his kisses make her melt and his arms are the sweetest refuge. When he makes a heartfelt gesture on Christmas Day to cheer her up, she starts to wonder if maybe, just maybe, mating with Deza isn't the most impulsive idea in the universe...

My Review

Annika left Earth in order to find a cure for the illness her sister had but the pilot of the ship she was on got sick, landed on an alien planet and then died. She's been stranded on the planet since then but the aliens have been nice to her for the most part.

Deza is in search of a mate after his planet and most of his people were destroyed by an evil alien race. He and his brother's vowed to find mates and come back to their new world to try and rebuild their people and have families. Humans are compatible with their race so when he learns there's a human on a planet not far away, he goes to see her. He knows right away that he wants her for a mate but all she wants is to go home.

When Annika is out in the woods looking for a tree to chop down for Christmas, she doesn't realize at first that Deza is out there with her making sure she is safe. When a powerful storm quickly rolls in and puts Annika in danger, Deza steps in and helps keep her safe. He knows what he wants but he has to convince Annika that she would be happy with him. When he tells her that he is willing to let her contact her parents from his ship and make the several week journey to take her home to Earth if she is willing to get to know him and give him a chance, she agrees.

Watching them get to know one another was so sweet. Deza is such a big, sexy romantic alien and does whatever it takes to show her that she could be happy with him. I was rooting for them the whole time. The ending really made me smile because it was just perfect. This was a quick novella with just 69 pages but it was full of so much story that I felt like I had just read a longer book.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #237

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 22 years here in a weekly blog post.

So the pictures didn't come out great because I grabbed the cell phone that my daughter gave me instead of my camera because it was closer. The Marshall's came and behind that green metal tree where they were standing was a homeless tent made from wood palettes, blankets and cardboard. I watched as the Marshall's went over to the tent and started throwing the blankets off and started jumping on the wood palettes to break them. They made the homeless people get up and leave. The way they did it though was messed up.

-----

On Thursday a couple of maintenance guys were cleaning the gutters on the roof across from me and my building and I heard one say that there was a bunch of crack pipes up there because people keep throwing them up there. At least they're throwing them away. Good grief.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Walmart beauty Box- January

The Walmart Beauty box is a subscription box that comes out 4 times a year. You sign up for it and it comes automatically every 3 months. These boxes are free and you just pay $5 + tax for shipping, mine came to $5.42.

What was in the box?

Bio Oil Dry Skin Gel- It was oily and didn't have a nice smell. Good thing it was just a small foil sample.

Cetaphil Daily Cream- I've always liked Cetaphil and it works great on my dry hands.

No7 Night Concentrate- A night cream for your face. After 5 nights of using this instead of my regular night cream I can honestly say it works about the same as other night creams. My face was soft and felt less dry which would happen with pretty much any moisturizer you apply at night.

Vital Proteins Strawberry Lemon Beauty Collagen- Egads, this stuff was awful! I mixed it with some water like it said and tried to drink it. Ugh, it tasted terrible. I let my daughter try and and she spit it out.

Crest Optic White toothpaste- I already like this toothpaste and think it works pretty good.

Earth To Skin hand sanitizer- It was lemon and basil scent and I say it works as well as any other alcohol based hand sanitizer. I can always use more hand sanitizer.

Did you get this box?

So for the price, I think this was a really good box of beauty items.

Have you signed up for this box?

I also received a tube of facial day moisturizer, I just paid for shipping but the product was free.

I'll be reviewing the moisturizer soon.

Did you receive any freebies this week?

Here's a picture of what if looked like three days ago. We actually got a little bit of snow where I live. Other parts of Las Vegas got 3 inches of snow which is rare.

An Interesting Little Find

When my mom passed away back in 2011, I packed up a bunch of her things and put the boxes in the closet. This month I looked in the last box and found some paperwork as well as this interesting find. It's a War Ration Book with 2 stamps still attached from 1942. It was my great grandmothers ration book.

There were some strict penalties and fines for anyone caught breaking the rules. 10 years in prison and $10,000 fine.

When I saw the date this was issued, I just thought it was such a great find.

I can't even imagine being alive back then and having to be on rations and use a book like this.

I even still have the cover that it came in to protect it.

If you don't know what a War Ration book and stamps are, here's a brief explanation.

During the war, some foods became scarce and hard to find for a variety of reasons. The US government’s Office of Price Administration established a system of rationing that would more fairly distribute foods that were in short supply.  Every American was issued a series of ration books during the war. The ration books contained removable stamps good for certain rationed items, like sugar, meat, cooking oil, and canned goods. A person could not buy a rationed item without also giving the grocer the right ration stamp.  Once a person’s ration stamps were used up for a month, they couldn’t buy any more of that type of food.  This meant planning meals carefully, being creative with menus, and not wasting food.

Review: Dragon Fire by Juliette Cross

Book Description

Wounded, with a target still on his back, Kieren Moonring has been hiding in the last place his Morgon enemies might find him—the Sisterhood of Light. In the human convent on the southern shores of Primus, his body heals quickly, but his soul is broken. Bitterness and fury fill that gaping chasm that was opened by the evil Larkosians.

While Sister Liana tends to the recovering Morgon man hiding in their convent, she can't stop or disguise her growing attraction. What disturbs her more is when he begins to uncover her past that is best kept buried. Her secrets will only lead to more danger for herself...and for Kieren.

What angers him most about Liana is her unwavering belief that hope can cure the world. Her naïve and misguided ideals will get her killed. And when she becomes the next target...bloody hell, if he won’t murder the whole world to keep her safe.

My Review

The Larkosians are dragon hybrid's but follow a ruthless dragon who wants to take over and bend the Morgon's and humans to their will. They plan on starting a war and they are cold blooded killers willing to do whatever it takes in order to win.

Kieren had been staying at a convent for a few months after being attacked by the Larkosians. While there he met a nun, sister Liana who he feels things for that he shouldn't. But the crazy thing is, she feels things for him as well.

The Morgon and Larkosians are a dragon hybrid race. But the Larkosians were not peaceful like the Morgon's were but even some of the Morgon's didn't like humans yet and wanted to stay separated from them.

Kieren had stayed at the monastery for months while he healed from his wounds and in that time he had truly and fully fallen for Liana.  He didn't speak of what happened to him or why he had to leave and when it came time, leaving was really the last thing he wanted to do because of her. He promised to write and she promised to write him back when he left. They both had secrets they kept hidden from the other but that didn't stop the feelings from developing between them. But right before he could leave, a bunch of Larkosians invaded the convent trying to take the nuns as slaves.

Kieren and Liana hold up with some of Liana's friends when they escape. When Kieran talks with his brother, Kol he tells him what happened and Kol is able to convince him to bring Liana back home with him because she's a witness to what happened at the convent. There's some political problems going on in Kieran and Kol's Senate and they are hoping that Liana's witness testimony along with the help of some of the Senators who aren't corrupt will help bring down the corrupt Senators who seem to be helping the Larkosians or are at least not trying to stop them.

But they aren't as safe as they thought they would be and danger seems to come at them several times. Plus there's a traitor in their midst that they have to trick this person to come out where they can catch him. The danger doesn't seem like it's going to go away easily and there's definitely a war between all the different dragon hybrid's coming.

This series has been so good and I am definitely going to keep reading these books.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Review: Ancient Enforcer by Katie Reus

Book Description

An ancient dragon warrior determined to protect what’s his…

Former general Mikael lost his clan, his family, everything, thousands of years ago. Now he’s awakened in a new world that’s trying to rebuild. He and his brothers are ordered to live with Avery, a human female, and her younger brothers. Avery is nothing he should want. She’s too soft, too sweet…too happy. But he can’t stop his growing obsession with her.

The human female who threatens his jaded heart…

House flipper Avery is no stranger to heartbreak, and knows that the ones you love most can stab you in the back the quickest. When she’s asked to shelter a bunch of dragon shifters, her instinct is to say no. Until she meets the ragtag group of males who are struggling to adjust to the new world. Against her better judgment, she agrees to take them in. Even if the gruff Mikael has heartbreak written all over him, she can’t help but fall for the sexy dragon a little more every day. But when a threat from his past emerges, promising to tear their world apart, things suddenly change between them. As they race against the clock to save her family, Mikael must risk everything and claim her before it’s too late.

Author note: Though part of a series, this book may be read as a stand-alone, complete with HEA.

My Review

Mikael, a dragon shifter had just awakened from a millennia long sleep when he and his brothers find a place to stay with Avery. She and her brothers are trying to help Mikael and his brothers get used to the new world they find themselves in.

King is the alpha for the territory that Mikael and his brothers decided to stay in and had made the arrangements as to where he and his brothers would be staying and working. Most humans know supernaturals existed and there in New Orleans there are humans like Avery who wanted to help. As Mikael and Avery spend more time together they both let their feelings show a little more. Avery is a little relationship phobic since her father was a total jerk to her mother and she doesn't want the same thing to happen to her in a relationship. But Mikael has some baggage from his past as well since his family had been killed a long time ago. He wasn't sure he wanted to let another female get that close to him again because he didn't want to be hurt again. Needless to say, they both had baggage that they needed to work through.

It isn't until Avery finds herself in danger that Mikael really shows her how much he feels for her. Sure they had a couple of moments but I'm not sure it would have gone anywhere fast if they hadn't been thrown together because of the danger she was in. Then as if the danger she's in isn't enough, a person from Mikael's past shows up and seems to bring even more danger with him. The twist this story took at that point was a good one though because it really seemed to ratchet up the tension and action in this story.

I loved how Mikael and Avery's romance took a little time to manifest. It was fun to watch them slowly give into their feelings and get to know each other even as the danger got worse for them but brought them closer. I really loved seeing another Dragonling (baby dragon) because they are just too cute. I have a feeling that we'll be seeing more and more of them in future stories. All the different supernaturals in this series have been fun to get to know. You never know what new kind of supernatural will pop up next. I loved this story.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Apartment Life #236

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 22 years here in a weekly blog post.

So on Monday I'm sitting in my apartment and hear someone screaming. I thought it was a kid playing so I didn't really think anything of it. My daughter was outside and saw the woman screaming and started filming her. This woman is obviously high.

Some guy came outside as asked the woman if she was ok. She said she just likes to do a lot of drugs and then run around the apartment complex. Well, mission accomplished...I guess. After a few more minutes of her screaming and talking to herself, the man who came outside took her by the hand and led her upstairs to his apartment...probably hoping to get laid I would imagine. She went with him though so maybe she knew him.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Hatched by Celia Kyle

Book Description

Taulan joi Lana Coburn, War Master of the Preor third fleet, is finally having his wishes granted. He has a mate and will soon have two dragonlets to protect and love. But only if he can live to see them born. Or, as his Lana says, hatched.

This short story is set in the DRAGONS OF PREOR world and does not stand alone. It should be read after ZADRI and is a little bite of family life for those who fell in love with the Preor dragons.

My Review

I love the books in this series so as soon as I saw that cover I immediately knew I had to read this book. Lana didn't want anyone knowing she was in labor, at least not right away. She planned on breathing through the labor pains and then slowly make her way to medical when it was time to give birth. The last thing she wanted was for her over protective mate to see her in pain and start with all the worrying. But her plans went out the window as soon as her friends stopped by who just happened to be nurses. They made sure she went to medical right away which was a good idea since she was having twins.

Taulan had been having some sort of pains all morning but he didn't realize he was actually feeling the pain his mate, Lana was in so he fought through it. Taulan was Preor, a dragon shifter and Lana his mate was a human. Since there weren't a lot of Preor and Human pairings, they didn't know a lot about the babies or dragonlets that Lana was about to give birth to. But the pain that Taulan was experiencing got so bad that his friends escorted him to medical as well.

The labor was difficult and painful because her babies were not entirely human, she had to give birth naturally. The medical staff wasn't sure how the babies would react to drugs to make giving birth easier so no drugs until the medical staff figured out if it was safe for both mother and baby. Maybe sometime in the future the birthing process would be less painful for the mothers.

This novella was so cute after all the labor pains. The babies are surprising and so cute. I can't wait to read more of this series.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

What I got:

I received a shoe rack from Walmart Spark Reviewer.
A necklace and bracelet set from Poweradd Mall.
Daily Goodie Box.
A white tray from Walmart Spark Reviewer.

I reviewed the Daily Goodie Box,  and bracelet and necklace set this week so you already know that I liked both of those.

I love the tray, I use it on my dresser to keep a few lotions and other beauty items in it.

The shoe rack is interesting. The instructions had two different instructions for two different designs. One like the box shows and one where there was a taller bottom shelf for tall boots. So after getting it almost all the way assembled I realized that it was too wide for the space I had for it. So momma made her own option! So instead of making it two shelves wide like the box shows, I made it 1 shelf wide and taller. Now it fits where I have space for it.

Review: Texas proud by Diana Palmer

Book Description

A powerful businessman seeks refuge

…but his secrets never stay hidden.

Before he testifies in an important case, businessman Michael “Mikey” Fiore hides out in Jacobsville, Texas. On a rare night out, he crosses paths with softly beautiful Bernadette, who seems burdened with her own secrets. He hears whispers about a life-threatening condition, her solitary existence. This doesn’t stop him from wanting her, which endangers them both. Their bond grows into passion…until shocking truths surface.

My Review

Mikey is a mob boss and he's in hiding until he can testify in a case for another mob boss. But there's another mob boss that wants to take over in both their cases and take them out so Mikey could be in danger if this guy finds out where he is before he testifies.

Bernadette works as a paralegal but she has Rheumatoid Arthritis and is in pain a lot so while she is walking home and accidentally trips and falls in the street in front of Mikeys limo, he thinks she did it on purpose at first. He soon learns that she really is in pain and takes her home to the boarding house and rents himself a room there as well.

So when Mikey starts to see how nice Bernadette is, he takes a liking to her because she's not like the women who come after him for his money. She's not a gold digger and people genuinely like her because of how nice she is.

With the mob after him, a jealous woman who sees dollar signs trying to break them apart and each of them not knowing the other well enough to talk things out when their relationship hits a snag, there was plenty of drama.

I've always liked this series because the town is full of retired military men who can still kick some serious butt. So when someone comes to town needing help, there's always someone around to lend a helping hand or a beat down. I like the people and the small town atmosphere this series has. This was another fun book and I look forward to reading more from this series.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Review: Daily Goodie Box - January

The Daily Goodie Box has been around since about July of 2016. I signed up for an account right after I heard about them. They are 100% free, you don't even have to pay for shipping. And for a free box it's a nice sampler box of products.

What was in the box?

Moon Cheese - White Chedda Black Peppa- I didn't like this but I don't usually like the cheese flavored snacks.

Miracle Tree - Organic Moringa Tea - Rooibos- I love tea, I drink it everyday so I'm always happy to try a new tea. I liked this one even though it's caffeine free. It tastes like the tea that I usually drink so it was good.

South of France - Hydrating Hand & Body Cream- Rose scented body and hand cream? Yes please! Oh my this smells so good and it's a nice hand lotion. Definitely my favorite thing in this months box.

Green Goo - Love Sweet Love Bath Salts- These bath salts smell so good! I'm not even sure what hibiscus smells like but if it smells like these bath salts, yes please. Nothing better than a good smelling soak in the tub.

Kuju Coffee - Pour over Coffee- This coffee came with its own filter because it's a pour over coffee. You put the filter bag in your cup, the sides anchor to the sides of the cup and you pour the hot water over the filter and coffee. It's supposed to be great for camping and the such but it makes a good cup of coffee.

Rowdy Bar - Peanutty Dark Chocolate- I'm not a fan of the protein bars at all but if you like them this might be one you'd like if you like dark chocolate and peanut better. It was at least edible.

Manuka Guard - Sinus Cleanser- This would be good for people who like using sinus cleansers that are drug free. I really don't think they do anything. I used it to see if it would help with my seasonal allergies but I noticed no difference.

All they ask you to do is try the products and leave reviews for the products you got in order to be eligible for more Free Goodie Boxes. Review: Bjorn Cursed by N.J. Walters

Book Description

Lucifer is up to his old tricks, causing problems for the Forgotten Brotherhood. This time, he’s had a woman removed from the Norse afterlife and placed her right in the path of Bjorn Knutson. After the slaughter of his wife and family centuries ago, tortured and broken, Bjorn was cursed as the first Norse werewolf. Now he’s been tasked by Odin himself with killing the woman who escaped. Failure is not an option.

Before he can track her, he stumbles across a woman being accosted by three men in the middle of the night. Even though she’s human, he intervenes and is shocked to recognize the face of the one woman he could never kill — his wife Anja.

She’s also the one he’s hunting…and if he doesn’t kill her then both their lives are at stake.

My Review

When Bjorn's wife and children were killed, he went crazy with grief. That's when Odin came to him and made a pact with him. Bjorn would get his revenge and Odin would give him the gift to get his revenge. But Bjorn didn't realize that the gods rarely give you anything without a price to pay for it. Bjorn's price to pay was becoming the first werewolf. With his new superior strength and viscous animal rage, he got his revenge but also killed a lot of innocent people along the way. It wasn't until be met the Brotherhood that he was able to get his wolf under control with their help.

After Anja was killed, the goddess Freya told her that she would let her children be reincarnated, born to new parents to live their lives because she and her oldest son had fought so hard to stay alive and save each other and the smaller kids. But Anja would forever stay in Freya's hall being a servant to pay for this and Anja agreed.

This story starts out with Anja finding herself away from Freya's Hall and thrust into our world with no knowledge of how she got there. Bjorn has just had a visit from Odin and given an assignment to capture and kill a female that escaped Freya's Hall, not knowing that the woman is Anja. When Bjorn hears a woman being accosted in an alley by several men, he goes to help the woman and finds his long dead wife...the woman he's supposed to kill. Of course he's not going to kill her though.

Bjorn enlists the help of the Brotherhood and it was great to see all of them again. They don't know how they're going to fight the god's so Bjorn and Anja travel to his cabin until they can come up with a plan. But Freya is informed that someone escaped and she sends her warrior to bring Anja back.

Watching the events from this point unfold had my heart pounding because the twists this story took made me sad for a while. But so many of the characters from past books show up to throw new twists in this story that I never knew where it was going to end up which was a lot of fun. Why does Ms. Walters always make me cry with the books in this series? I know it's a good book when an author can elicit strong emotions from me while I'm reading. I was holding my breath to see what would happen but I was not disappointed at all. I read this book in 2 hours because I couldn't put it down. I read fast but whew, this one had me scouring the pages faster than usual to see what would happen next. I have loved this series from the beginning but this was by far my favorite book so far. I cannot say enough good things about this series.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Apartment Life #235

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 22 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Monday my daughter spotted the police outside. My neighbor who lives right next door said she saw the police go over to the old maintenance shop and pull this woman out who had broken into the locked shop. They had her out by their car for a while but they didn't arrest her. I hope they at the very least they gave her a ticket and summons to appear in court.

It's not even the first time she and her boyfriend have been caught breaking into that shop. Last year I blogged about what they had done to the old maintenance shop in this post you might want to check out so you can see what they had done to the shop the last time they were in there. All the holes and damage they caused are all fixed now and on Tuesday morning the maintenance man who works here was here screwing the door shut, yet again. I'm sure it won't take long for her or someone else to break that door open and make their way in again though. It's an ongoing problem. I think the owner should put a metal door on there and reinforce the door jam so they can put better locks on it. But hey, I just live here. Move along, now. I know nothing. I just can't believe she wasn't arrested! She was caught red handed inside the shop. I don't know, maybe they couldn't prove she is the one who broke in and opened the door but I don't think it should have mattered. I'm a little irritated.
-----

On Friday I'm out walking Falcor and I see this lady across the street trying to parallel park her white truck. She's back and forth, back and forth, trying to get this truck parked and she can't do it.
She sees me watching her and she rolls down the window and I think she's gonna yell at me or something. No, she asks me if I know how to parallel park. lol I tell her yes and she asks me if I will park her truck for her because she cannot do it. At first I'm like, uhm, hell. Then I say yeah if you'll hold on to my dog. So I get in her truck while she's holding on to Falcor's leash and parallel park her truck for her. It was a big enough spot so it's not like it was hard to do. She says thanks, hands me back the leash and goes into the apartment building only to come back out not 3 minutes later. She yelled across to me that "The mother*ucker* wasn't even home! She got in her truck and sped off. LOL

Well, that was a first.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
